People On Humira Over 65 Years Old

Updated

The Dr has recommended Humira for me. I am very hesitant as I feel at my age-66-it may not be the wisest thing to do. I would love to hear from those of you my age who have had experience with this drug. Thanks so much!

Hi Arlene,

When it comes to determining if any particular drug will work for you, there's really no honest way to know for sure until you try it yourself. Chronological age is just a number and does not always reflect "biological age", which in my opinion would be a more accurate way of diagnosing the overall state of your body and mind, based on how healthy you are as an individual.

I don't know if doctor's also take this into account before recommending you try something like Humira, but no matter your age I would only do what you feel comfortable doing, since medications can and often do affect each person differently; whereas someone half your age may still experience undesirable side effects. It's really just one of those things you have to give a trial run to assess how it makes you feel and weigh out the benefits vs risks involved with doing so over an extended period of time. This is just my opinion, though I'd be interested in hearing what others have to say as well..

I used Enbrel for approx. 8 years. Worked great, but then I got iridocyclitis. Could not get rid of it and had a terrible full year. Then switched to Humira. Got rid of the iridocyclitis after one week. Humira have been working just as well as enbrel for the 8 months I have been taking it.
But two weeks ago I got atrial fibrillation. never had hart problems before (46 years and in decent shape). Now they want me to stop taking Humira - really disapointed for this. Most likely have to change for one of the other biologics treatment. (open for suggestions :-!
