i have a bottle of penicilln v k 500mg tab sandoz my toung has been hurting i looked in the mirror and i see what looks like cuts just pass the tip of my toung this bottle is dated07-23-2009 is it ok to take it ## First of all, unless you have an active infection, this medication is not going to do anything to help. This is an antibiotic and it is important not to use them, when it isn't appropriate, because you run the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. Second, this is even more of a danger, because this bottle of medication is outdate. The expiration date was 07-23-2010, after that, they start to lose their effectiveness and this creates an even bigger risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. Have you seen a doctor to see what it causing this problem? It co...

I've been taking ic penicillian as perscribed for about a week now. And I've started getting a rash on the palms of my hands and legs. should i stop taking the penicillian immediately or finish the course. ## HI, Brit! Sorry about the rash. From your description, it's difficult to know what type of rash it is and why it has happened. There are two different types that you can experience from antibiotics. The first would be a non-allergic skin rash, this one usually just looks like small speckled spots similar to measles and it doesn't itch or swell. It's just kind of there, almost like you got a new set of freckles. The second is an allergic rash, which would include hives, they are raised, swollen bumps that itch and seem to spread. They may cycle and itch at differ...

Is nipecil acronym penicillon from Mexico, the same as ciprofloxacin? ## Hello, James! How are you? No, the FDA lists Nipecil as containing Penicillin, which is an antibiotic, but it's in a different class than Ciprofloxacin. Hello I have a bottle of penicillin vk 500mg filled 9.29.10. prescribed by my dentist. Are they to old to use, I have a nasty cold. Thank you ## Hi Denise, sorry you aren't feeling well! But no, old or new, Penicillin isn't effective at treating the virus that causes a cold. It is only effective against bacterial infections. Additionally, improper use, such as taking it for a cold could lead to your developing antibiotic resistance, which could be very dangerous if you do get an actual infection that requires an antibiotic. It doesn't get dangerous once it's expired, but it does start to lose effectiveness, so it should just be disposed of properly. Taking it would further potentiate the risk of developing antibiotic resistance. Is there anything else I can help with? Le...

What purpose does the potassium serve in this medicine ## Hello, Dennis! How are you? That's the chemical salt it is derived from, the actual chemical name for this medication is Phenoxymethylpenicillin. Can I take Penicillin VK 500mg and Mucinex D along with my Methadone? I'm afraid it may cause breathing problems and would like some clarification. ## Hello, Michelle! How are you? I didn't find any interactions listed between the Penicillin and the Methadone, but there may be issues if you take the Mucinex D, since it contains Pseudoephedrine, which works like a stimulant and the Methadone is a depressant, so you should check with your doctor, before combining those. Penicillin is an antibiotic and according to the FDA, it may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. I have a bootle of penicillin v k 500mg And the expiration 5/28/15 can i take one my throat is killing me ## Hello, Mat70015! How are you? This medication does not become toxic, once expired, but it can start to lose effectiveness, so it may not fully eradicate infectious bacteria, if you have an actual infection. It would be best to dispose of it and see your doctor, to determine whether or not you actually have an infection and, if so, to obtain a new supply.
