I'm all out of Amoxicillin and have Pota-V-kin Penicillin V 800000U... Does this cure a UTI? Source: NIH / PMC477226 However my research leads me to believe that Penicillin's efficacy may also be dependent upon the strain of bacteria that's causing the infection. Therefore it may be a good idea to have your doctor analyze the bacteria through whatever diagnostics are deemed appropriate, in order to ensure that taking Penicillin is indeed the best approach. If you're unable to get in to see a doctor, perhaps a local pharmacist could at least advise you on Penicillin's standard adult dosing protocols for a UTI....

I am taking penicillin for strep throat, but i find it very difficult to take one pill 4x a day considering all the time I must wait before and after I eat to take them (It just doesn't quite match up with my schedule and I do not want to mess it up). I was told by my son's Pediatirician that this was not penicillin (as he is allergic to PCN). Now after reading several discussions about this med, I'm worried. Please respond ASAP! Thank you, a concerned mother. ## If he is allergic to PCN he should not take this medication. It is a close cousin to the penicillin family and he will also be allergic to it. I am also allergic to amoxicillin (pcn sister) and I was given this medicine for a ear infection and started getting hives in my face n swelling eyelids and tingly mouth.
