My 8 month old baby often suffers from a cough and my pediatrician gave me ambroxol for him to take twice a day (2.5ml for each dose). My baby's weight is 8 kg. Is the dose given by my doctor advisable? ## You should follow your doctor's instructions. The NIH lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, and expelling of mucous. Is your baby on any other medications? How often does the coughing occur? How severe is it? Is it a dry, or productive cough?

My son's pediatrician prescribed Amoxicillin 400mg/5ml, 3 teaspoons every 12 hours to treat strep throat. Is this the correct dosage? Sounds like a lot. ## Hello, Suzie! How are you and your son? At his age, according to the FDA dosing instructions, it is actually dosed by weight, so you should follow his doctor's instructions. My 9 year ols nephew is on 40 mg a day this seems too much! He seems distant and depressed all the time, should I be concerned? ## Hi Kerry, From what I could gather, the usual pediatric dose can range from 5mg up to a maximum of 60mg once daily. The extended release capsules are not recommended for anyone age 6 or under, so I can only speculate that his body (from a biological standpoint) may not even be ready to handle this medication. Safety guidelines for this medication note that if any bothersome adverse reactions appear (e.g., insomnia, anorexia, or depression in this case), the dosage should be reduced. I think it's perfectly ok and natural to be concerned for someone who looks depressed and distant. This would probably be attributed to side effects and/or too high of a dose...

can i give my 11 yr old daughter 125mg she is complaining of gas and stomach pains, belchilg and passing gas continioully? ## Hello, Dee! How are you? The usual dose for children is 40mgs given 4 times a day, so it would be best to pick up the pediatric version, to avoid overdose, and make sure that's it okay with her pediatrician. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly include dizziness and headache. What type of foods does she eat? According to the NIH, they may be what's causing the problem. It could also occur if she drinks a lot of soda. Gulping her food, or beverages can also cause someone to swallow a lot of air, which could cause this, so she may need to eat and drink slower.

My 4 month old baby has diarrhea. The pediatrician has prescribed to take Erceflora 1 vial. What does that mean? Is this the whole vial at once? ## Hi Maine, sorry to hear about that, I know how nerve wracking it can be when a child at that young of an age has diarrhea. To answer your question, each vial should be a 5ml suspension. If that is the case then I am seeing a standard dose of 1-2 vials every 3-4 hours mixed in with another liquid such as milk, formula, or water. If you are still breastfeeding your baby you can mix it in with expelled breast milk. So yeah, 1 whole vial per dose is what is indicated. Is that in line with the doctor's instructions? There should be a label, printout, or packaging that came with the prescription. All in all Erceflora is a probiotic medicine wh...

Our 11 yr old (72 lbs) was prescribed Augmentin for suspected bacterial infection. He developed some of the "rare side effects" which have finally subsided except for the dizziness upon standing/walking. Last dose taken more then 48 hrs ago and still feeling dizzy. Any idea when it will resolve? We and pediatrician are assuming the dizziness is a side effect and not part of the virus/infection. ## Hello, Hollyrock! How is he doing? Side effects to the antibiotic may linger for a week or so, but if the dizziness is severe and making him miserable, please return to the doctor. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Hello. i am 190 pounds how many 10mg atarax pills do i take? ## Hi Jewelz, May I ask for what reason you might be taking this drug? Since this drug seems to have a number of different uses, the dosing instructions are also dependent upon the condition more so than weight. Example: "The usual pediatric dose for anxiety is 50 to 100 mg orally per day in divided doses The alternative dosing regime that is listed for anxiety is 2 mg/kg/day divided every 6 to 8 hours The usual pediatric dose for sedation is 0.6 mg/kg/dose" If you could please post back with the condition you're taking it for, I can better determine what is considered to be a typical dose for someone in that weight range. I hope this helps! ## Hi Jewelz, The dosing information for Atarax varies depending on the condition...

I opened and crunched 24 focal xr 15mg capsules in about 14-16 hrs. I have a very high tolerance to any drug, and I'm a small female. I feel shaky but ok. Is that too much? Just a waste probably- the buzz didn't get better.... ## From what I could gather, Doses above 30 mg/day in pediatrics and 40 mg/day in adults have not been studied and are not recommended. There is also no body of evidence available from controlled trials to indicate how long the patient with ADHD should be treated with Focalin XR. So if you're using Focalin XR (Dexmethylphenidate Hydrochloride) in a recreational manner, I would still play it safe and definitely steer clear from taking so many capsules. Nervousness and anxiety are both common side effects of taking too much, which may have attributed to ...
