Pantoprazole, sold under the brand name Protonix, among others, is a proton pump inhibitor used for the treatment of stomach ulcers, short-term treatment of erosive esophagitis due to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), maintenance of healing of erosive esophagitis, and pathological hypersecretory conditions including Zollinger–Ellison syndrome.[4] It may also be used along with other medications to eliminate Helicobacter pylori.[5] Effectiveness is s...

It is not nexium, it's one generic for protonix. its made by another manufacturer, and beware it's not as effective as protonix, but fda says its eqivilent to protonix, which is brand name. the one you described is made by sunpharma. nexium and protonix are brand names and both work for me, but each is a different medication. ## There are actually severally manufacturers of the generic version and there can be differences between them, so one may not work as well for you as another. If you are getting them by prescription, from your pharmacy, you can ask them if they can order in the one that works best for you, or try a different pharmacy. Are there any questions or comments?

I was non symptamatic before taking pantoprazole. Now I have nausea, sleep problems and overall having stomach issues I did not have. Gastro doc prescribed after upper GI as a preventive measure. Ready to stop all together. ## Same problem here, once I take a Pantoprazole in the morning I cannot sleep the next night. Never had problems sleeping before. Will call the doctor and ask if something else is available. ## It can cause these types of issues, as side effects, in some people, so you both should contact your doctors and discuss trying something else. I also had problems with PPIs and had to stop using them. The medication that finally worked well for me was Pepcid, which contains the active ingredient Famotidine and is available both over the counter and by prescription. Are there...

I recieved a prescription for Pantoprazole Sodium DR 40mg. But my pill looks completely different from what I've had in the past and is different from the descriptions I can find on what it should look like. I have a white, oval tablet with "97" imprinted on one side. The imprints vary between red or black in the same bottle. What do I have in my hands? Any help is appreciated. ## How did you look for it, did you just do a search for what Pantroprazole should look like, or did you search for that imprint? The imprint is what enables a pill to be identified. If you just search for examples of what it should look like, you'll not likely have much luck, since this is a generic medication and most sites don't list all possible options. It is the correct medication, this ...

Been on Protonix/Pantoprazole for a few years. Pill appearance often changes from oblong tan color, round tan color and now white oblong. What is up with that? Any change to effectiveness, complications? ## Well, I can't really tell you anything about them, without knowing the specific markings on them, however, what is most likely happening is that they are just manufactured by different companies. Most pharmacies will order from whatever company is offering the cheapest price, when they need to restock. This is how they keep their prices as low as possible for uninsured customers. The medication remains the same, it's just the appearance that's different. Have you tried asking your pharmacist? ## Pharmacy person stated that although the color was different because they pur...

Make it go away. The rash on my hands is beyond belief since I was prescribed Pantoprazole. I am using fresh aloe and it only provides temporary relief. I just want the rash to go away. I have a weak auto-immune system and it looks like I cannot fight this one off. ## Hello, Marsha! How are you? It isn't normal for a rash from a systemic medication to be isolated to just a certain area of the body, such as your hands. Have you been exposed to anything else new? IS the rash itchy or just a red noticeable rash? Have you consulted your doctor? Are you on any other medications?

can I go. On and off at will ? ## Hello, Betty! How are you? According to the U.S. FDA, this medication is actually not intended for long-term use, it is usually used for 12 to 16 weeks, then a break should be taken. Taking it continuously for too long creates an increased risk of hip fractures. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain, and flatulence. Pantoprazole tablets show color change after about a year from manufacture. Color changes from yellow to light green. Is this normal? ## Yes, some change to the color and efficacy level of the medication is normal, when they start to age, due to exposure to heat and light. The efficacy change is why most pills you receive from your pharmacy have an expiration date of only a year, once they are dispense to you. They tend to degrade over time. The degradation is slowed, if they are left in the original factory sealed bottle, but once it has been opened, then that changes. Are there any other questions?

I can not take pantoprazole now but have all day issues w/ my stomach. Is there anything I can do or take to help? ## Hi maggie, Sorry to hear about your situation. From what I could gather, pantoprazole is used to treat symptoms of GERD & excess stomach acid. What works for others may or may not work as well for you, however, I've had success with raw manuka honey and apple cider vinegar for eliminating excess acid and heartburn. My father also battles with esophagitis from time to time and has had very positive feedback with that regiment. Baking soda is extremely alkaline and in my experience may also be a nice addition to that arsenal of treatment. Other than that, drinking alkaline water daily (with a PH of 8-9.5), juicing raw veggies (such as a leafy greens, cucumbers, cel...

We were receiving the Pantoprazole 40mg EC tablets, yellow~oval~w434. The last refill we received the Pantoprazole 40mg DR tablets, white~oval~KU181. Could you please help us figuring out what the difference is?? Thank You ## Hello, Markayshai! How are you? Both abbreviations really mean they same thing, they just designate it as being a time released formulation. The EC stands for enteric coated, there are many that the pharmaceutical industry uses for this. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Fantastic! My Gastro doc had me on this (Pantoprazole 40mg) (first Nexium until insurance would no longer pay for Nexium) for 1.5 yrs for ulcers-----He said my ulcers are cured now taper off ------I can't seem to get off this stuff. I continue to have acid problems (lump in throat feeling) like I've never had before in my life. Did I get addicted to it? Does not seem to matter what I eat either. ## Hello, Chuck! How are you? I am sorry about what you are dealing with, I know it can be very annoying, my mother-in-law was just dealing with something similar and she was miserable. But no, it is not an actual addiction, because you haven't been abusing the medication, you've only been taking it as prescribed. The problem you are having is due to dependence, it happens just because your...
