I just had my Pantoprazole refilled and the pills are different .The new pill is white and oblong with the numbers 1097 printed on one side. Is this generic pabtiorazole? ## Pantoprazole is actually the generic ingredient in Protonix and yes, the pill you have contains 40mgs of it. why is it on hold by manufactors. my drug stores cant refill my prescription. they are saying its has been on backlog for over 90 days now ## Hello, Charlie! How are you? I'm sorry, but I can't find any information on there being a shortage or anything. There are other similar medications available over the counter, such as Prilosec. I have been taking this pill (for heart attack recovery) since last fall. I already was being treated for vertigo and it seemed to make the vertigo worse plus made me be in a "fog" most of the time. my doctor gave me this pill and it has not changed any of my symptoms (belching stomach growling sore and tight throat liquid sensation in my stomach) ...sometimes it feels like they've gotten worse. I recieved a prescription for Pantoprazole Sodium DR 40mg. But my pill looks completely different from what I've had in the past and is different from the descriptions I can find on what it should look like. I have a white, oval tablet with "97" imprinted on one side. The imprints vary between red or black in the same bottle. What do I have in my hands? Since Nexium 40 mg is now OTC, my doctor switched me to Pantoprazole sod dr 40 mg so i can continue to have it sent to me thru express scripts. Is there a difference between the two? From what I could gather, pantoprazole is used to treat symptoms of GERD & excess stomach acid. What works for others may or may not work as well for you, however, I've had success with raw manuka honey and apple cider vinegar for eliminating excess acid and heartburn. My father also battles with esophagitis from time to time and has had very positive feedback with that regiment. Baking soda is extremely alkaline and in my experience may also be a nice addition to that arsenal of treatment.
