I recieved a prescription for Pantoprazole Sodium DR 40mg. But my pill looks completely different from what I've had in the past and is different from the descriptions I can find on what it should look like. I have a white, oval tablet with "97" imprinted on one side. The imprints vary between red or black in the same bottle. What do I have in my hands? Any help is appreciated. ## How did you look for it, did you just do a search for what Pantroprazole should look like, or did you search for that imprint? The imprint is what enables a pill to be identified. Does this pill need to be taken on any empty stomach? How long can you eat afterwards? ## Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that is used to help reduce the amount of acid produced by the stomach, to help prevent or treat conditions such as ulcers, heartburn, GERD or gastritis. It can be taken with, or without food, but most people take it just before a meal, so that it has a chance to help when they eat, which is when their stomachs are going to be producing more acid.
