what does anyone know of pain pumps and what drs in new jersey use them ## There is no listing of doctors that use them. They are really only used in cases of severe pain, where someone either can't take oral medications, or they have exhausted other pain control options. Learn more pain amanagement details here. So, it's really not something that you can just walk into a doctor and ask for, they are last resort types of treatments. I would like to talk to anyone who has a pain pump with Dilaudid. My mother has a pain pump and I am worried she will be on it for the rest of her life. She has had the pump for many years and I feel it has affected her greatly. She had to have all her teeth pulled because they were rotting and she also has a problem with her tongue burning and red all the time. I am worried she will never get off the pain pump because she is addicted... she also falls asleep all the time even while you are talking to her. Thanks for any advice. Teresa. ## Dilaudid contains the active ingredient Hydromorphone, this is a narcotic analgesic. There is a different between addiction and dependence. Dependence, which is more than likely what is happening to your mother, occurs when you are just using somethin...

Ive had black outs in hot weather! Over a 100? I go inot shut down mode! Anyone else having problems? ## Hello, Jake! How are you? I'm sorry about what happened. What medication is in your pump? Sometimes heat causes some of them to move through your blood stream faster than usual. Or you may also be getting dehydrated, which could make the medication hit you harder than usual, if it's a narcotic. The FDA lists narcotics as having the potential to be habit forming and possibly causing side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. ## My name is Bob. I have a Medtronics pain pump the FDA and my personal Dr. Finally figured out over a 100? causes over dose! Has anyone had their pain pump changed from moriphine to fentynal? I had a medibalic pump implant done may of 2013, after being on oral meds for a decade. I really thought my life would have great improvements yet im very disappointed with the results. Once you have the implant its next to impossiable to find a new doctor to take over. My doctor will not give anything for break through and its not affective for me without. I have called medabalics they were no help, they by law have to report problems to the dea and to your dictor. I would like him to try switching me to fentynal but he would rather try to sell me nerve blocks or other procedures. My question is are mist people with pumps taking something for break through pain? ## I didnt mention that im in the Tampa bay area. I have t...

I want the pump taken out and to be put back on oral meds... Can they fill me with saline and wean me down orally? I don't want the pump filled again. I'm scared of leaks. Something has been going on and I want it out. They say they have to fill it again and wean me off. ## You have to be weaned off slowly from the pump which takes several months to do. If you are having pain you should remain on it then have the medication adjusted accordingly. Fear of having complications is not a valid concern for removing your pain pump. With the recent television reports of opioid abuse your doctor will NOT follow your request to be put on oral pain meds.. You may be seen as an abuser looking for oral pain medication ## My mom has had a morphine pain pump for over 3yrs. Just a couple weeks ...

I've had a pain pump since 2007 until April of 2022. In all those years I never missed a refill for one thing as to do so could be fatal. Refills took place every 4 months. But in April 2022 due to a severe illness I wasn't able to get my pump refill and my pump ran out of medicine. Once that happened I was surely looking death in the eye as I was already very ill. However nothing happened once my pump ran out of medicine. This could mean only one thing. At some point I was slowly removed from the Fentanyl as to not suffer any side effects and it was replaced with what I may never know. The first 7 yrs. after getting the pain pump life was good. But in 2014 that all came to an end and my constant severe pain returned to my lower back but because I was getting three other types o...

how long does it take to be weaned off a medtronic pain pump with the med. dilaudid the pain management wants my daughter to come off it in one month is that to fast and will there be alot of side effects and withdrawal please help i'm really scared for her and they are suppose to start reducing tomorrow ## Dialudid is a potent narcotic containing the active ingredient Hydromorphone. It really depends on how high of a dosage she has been on and for how long. It should be done on a very slow taper, slowly decreasing her dosage every 5 to 7 days, until she eventually isn't using any. She will, more than likely, still experience some withdrawal effects when she finally does stop altogether, however, they should not be severe nor dangerous. Just somewhat miserable. Did they say why ...

I just got a pain pump put in and it gets filled on June 10th. I would like to know why they wait two weeks to adjust it? Also, during the process of getting it to the right level can I take my Oxycodone in place of it? Cause they won't give me the monitor to give myself extra until it's at the right level. ## I'm very interested in the answers to your questions I'm sorry I can't help you. But I would like to know what it took to get this device installed in you n where n how it works. What issues do you have in order to get this and is your insurance covering it n how much is it coasting ## I've have an implanted pain pump for several years. Has anyone out there come off of fentanyl delivered thru a pain pump?? I've gone from 1.9 mcg/day to .385. At what point can the pump be safely shut down. I'm going to have the pump removed soon. But feel my Dr is not sure how to completely get me off it. ## Are you not seeing a pain specialist then? Because they should be specially trained in handling this type of thing. It's really difficult for anyone else, including a general practitioner, to know, because much of it depends on you and how severely you react to the withdrawal of such medications. Hi everyone, My mom has a dilaudid pump thing. I really don't know much about it in terms of dosage or anything. She's had 6 back surgeries. She has been having a drink or two (vodka) every now and then. Is that problematic? Thanks in advance, Liz ## Hello, Liz! How is your mom doing? The problem with mixing a narcotic and alcohol is due to the fact that they both cause depression of the central nervous system, so it could result in lowered heart rate, blood pressure and shallow breathing. It can also cause aggravation of some of the side effects, so she may feel more dizziness, drowsiness and nausea than usual, because it kind of potentiates each drink. The best thing to do would be to have her check with her doctor. In some cases, there may not be any issues with someone havin...

Is anyone taking this ziconotide ? What side effects do you have? ## Hello, Lucille! How are you? What side effects are you experiencing? The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including dizziness, nausea, confusion, headache, weakness, abnormal vision, depression, fever, rigors, sinusitis and muscle spasms. ## I tried it about 5 yes ago, had intolerable side effects had to go back to Dilaudid. Now after 7 yrs delaudid not working well don't know what else to try. Maybe up the bupivacaine mix percentage?

I already have a pain pump implanted. It has flipped. I need a pain doctor in Columbus Ohio area. ASAP. ## Hello, Kathy! How are you? Are you having a problem with the doctor that has been maintaining it? That should be the person you see for any problem with it. Do you currently have a PCP that might be able to refer you to someone? If so, that might be the quickest and easiest way to find the help you need. Can anyone recommend a good doctor in that area?

I have a pain pump implanted about 1 1/2 months ago. Pain dr. is increasing Dilaudid 1mg/ml every two weeks. I am also taking Gabapentin 300 mg 2 times a day, 2 capsules each time. Are there side effects from taking the Dilaudid through pain pump and orally Gabapentin? I have had swelling in my feet, ankles and legs since the pain pump was implanted. ## Is your doctor aware of this swelling? The FDA does warn that you should check with your doctor, if that occurs, as you may need to try a different medication. Other side effects of Dilaudid may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. This medication also carries the risk of being habit forming. My husband got 2 teeth broken down to gum. He was in so much pain he went diving through medicine cabinet found old darvocet from 1997 took 2 of them. I'm freaking out since I saw date on them. Will these hurt him should I take him to hospital have his stomach pumped? Help im scared! ## No, they don't turn into anything toxic, once they're expired. They just start to lose efficacy, so they don't work as well as they would have when they were new. The best thing to do is to keep a close eye on him. This medication was pulled from the market by the FDA a few years ago, because they do create a risk of cardiac dangers, though it's usually only temporary, while someone is being treated with them. So, if he starts to experience an erratic heart beat, or anything, then he...

I have severe chronic pain in my back, hip, right buttock, thigh, knee, calf, foot. Much like Siatica but much worse as all nerves below injury site in mid to lower back are effected. For example,in my right thigh both the outer cystic nerve & the inner nerve that runs just under your carotid artery to the inner side of your knee are both equally severely painful. I have had a myriad of major surgeries, none least ng less than 7 1/2 hours & the 1st over 13 hours with 2 neurosurgeons working. It was in this surgery that I actually woke up, eyes were taped, on stomach, rear end in air, unabated, I just remember hearing the Anesthesiologist yelling oh s**" he's awake, I was screaming in unbelievable pain & trying yo pull out the tube that felt like it was chocking me, I...

My situation is about to be dire as due to Medicare refusing to pay for pump meds to my clinic, my doctor is going to have to drop his Medicare patients. He has a very strict policing schedule with meds and a lot, most, of pain patients around here won't go to him because it's very hard to get meds from him. You have to take a class/counseling sessions for 12 weeks when you start his clinic. You start with one week of meds, then they move you up to two weeks, then finally a month. You bring meds and are given a U/A every month. Now 'I forgot" bring the meds and they actually count the meds. The previous clinic just gave you what you wanted, would let it slide if you didn't bring meds 'just this time' and never counted pills. Still, Medicare claims he was over...
