i have been going to pain management for 6 years and taking 6 30 mg, 10 15 mg oxycodone and 1 a day of fentora 400 mg. now i am thinking about going to suboxone. i can't bear the w/d and thought sub would take care of it. but i see different outcomes for different people. i have got to do something, it's destroying my life and any and everything in it....HELP!!! ## Are you addicted, or just dependent on them? There is a difference, because addiction occurs when someone likes how they feel from the side effects of a medication, but since side effects wear off as your body gets used to a medication, they have to keep taking higher, and higher doses to get them back. If you are only taking them as prescribed, and not abusing them, then you are only considered to be dependent. Stopp...

What meds are commonly used in outpatient rehab to stop using opiate pain pills. ## The one that is most commonly used is suboxone. It is a wonderful medication that allows you to go off opiates without having to feel the horrendous opiate withdrawals. You must be off opiates at least 24 hours to take it. Having opiates in your system while taking suboxone can make you very sick, I know this from experience. Hope this helps and good luck! ## The other one commonly used is Methadone, but unlike Suboxone, many people treated with it require a lifetime maintenance dose and never become completely drug free. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. And as to the Su...

Hi... my husband has been addicted to pain pills off and on for the past 5 years, with things getting really out of hand the past year. Almost 2 weeks ago he went to detox and rehab. He AMA'ed out of rehab 3 days ago because he said he couldn't take it. He is willing try something to help him control his cravings. I've done some reading on Naltrexone and was wondering how well it works and if anyone knows of a doctor in the Houston area that prescribes it? Right now he needs all the help that he can get. Thank you! =) ## Hi, I was hooked on pills and opiates for 5 years. Heavy user. Tried to quit many times. Plus two state run detox. Failed them all. I know everyone gets really sick. But I get extra sick. Two words. Coleman Institute. Saves my life. Detox was a cake walk. Th...

My son has a very severe drug addiction to pain med. He has turned to one of the strongest on the street and is now using needles. He has really hit bottom and wants to quit. Someone told him about Suboxone and said that it would help him to break his addiction. Is it a safe drug to use to quit, or does it only replace one addiction for another? Can a family practitioner prescribe the drug if it is safe? ## I have taken Suboxone for almost 3 years now. It has saved my life. I do consitter it a wonder drug. I never used the needle, but I did have a nasty Oxycottin addiction. I would recomend Suboxone to anyone who has a opiate addiction. They have nothing to loose but the addiction. A normal family doctor can not perscribe Suboxone. He has to be a addictionoligist. Some family doctors ca...

my son is addicted to the blue pill a painkiller as he told me.He wants to get out of this, I found this blue pills with this # name on it "44-473 ",and I am assuming that this is the pill he is addicted to,he is even using needles to inject it to his system, how bad is this ,and how I can help him to leave this addiction. ## Hi Ucho - sorry to hear about your son. The pills which you are describing are an over the counter cold remedy, which fortunately do not contain any narcotic ingredients. There is a related discussion thread which has identified 44-473 Blue Pill as containing: - Acetaminophen 325mg - Dextromethorphan HBr 10mg - Phenylephrine HCL 5mg - Chlorpheniramine Maleate 2mg As far as helping your son through his addiction, have you guys considered taking him to a coun...

I worked in alot of factories in my teens so i started getting RSI along with back ache. So naturally i went to gp who prescribed me co-proxomol and along with each dose take two paracetamols. So after a good few years later, they discontinued co-proxamol due to somebody taking an accidental overdose so that left me stumped. Long story, short 20 years later still have addiction to painkillers with having suffered crohns disease for 8 years and for rest of my life will have it along with few other illnesses i.e. anaemia, cant have kidz, plus a load more but will take up alot of room. ## Hello, Mizz Lucifer! How are you doing? I'm very sorry about the problem that you're having. What is it that you're addicted to, now? Have you consulted your doctor for assistance? Proper help...

Hi I have been on oxycodone since 2009 after a back op. I'm just at the end of my tether and don't no how to deal with life anymore!!! My doctors a joke and doesn't want to know! I just wanna know if I could stop slowly and deal with my back pain or stop suddenly and go thru the pain which I've never done!!! My body lets me know if my tablets late. In fact I need it before the 12 hours are up. Any advice would be cool. ## Hello, Peter! How are you? A slow taper would be best, to help prevent the worst of the withdrawal symptoms. As listed by the U.S. FDA, they may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, rebound pain, anxiety and diarrhea. What dosage do you currently take? ## Hi, thanks for the reply. My script is 10 x 4 oxynorm but using more at min 20 ml couple o...

I'd drive. I have to secure my kids and my anxiety is worse knowing I have to call around get on sites to plea for help. Why is it nearly impossible to get help unless you're rich and keep doc on payroll. I'm not a Michael Jackson, I'm just trying to get my life back. ## Hello, Kenzo! How are you? I know vicodin is addictive, but what I want to know is: For the people who are in chronic severe long term pain, is getting off it any easier? Vicodin isnt that strong, it is only a little stronger than acetomeniphen and codiene but theres something about vicodin that makes it much more addictive, does anybody know? ## No! But I would like to know what it is. My husband has been taking Vicodin, off and on, for 2 years. He takes it for severe pain. ## Well me being a ex drug addict to perscription drugs my comment to this would be...When we get addicted we can take up to 30 pills and not care or we start mixing a lot even drink with the meds. This causes more damage and health problems to are body....This making in the end the pain worse..It's a lot like alcohol It's ok why your...

Hello, I need some help. My husband has been in pain for some unknown nerve problems and the do for that he was seeing prescribed him Vicodin for the pain. Over time his tolerance went up and he got referred to a pain management specialist and he starte prescribing him methadone and 10 mg percocets for his pain. He has been abusing pain pills fr about 8 years now and he is up to taking 30+ percocets a day when he gets his prescription filled along with 10-15 of the methadone (80 mg pills I think?) then when he runs out, which is very quickly, he gets a lot from other people. He has a horrible problem and I don't know what to do. I want to leave him but he doesn't have a job because he lost it from taking off too much work and he doesn't have his license. TRAMADOL=DECEPTIVE POISON. this drug is one of the nastier little secrets of the painkiller industry. from my experience it is highly addictive with all the standard withdrawal symptoms plus severe interference with the logical thought processes, more so than other opiates. and to think that this drug is advertised as a safer alternative to other painkillers. I work with numbers as part of my job and I was unable to function once i ran out of my supply early. put myself into a long term suboxone rehab program. am almost ready to "graduate" from the program. (yipee!!!). this nightmare has cost me about $450 a month for doc visits and meds. TRAMADOL = DECEPTIVE POISON ## Sorry about the problem you had from taking Tramadol. And yes, it can be very deceptive. Since it is classified...

Hi I'm in the U.K. And been on oxycodone for just over 2 years. Prior to this I was taking MST morphine. I lost me mum at the end of last year and whilst she was ill in the hospital I was waiting for a 2nd operation on my L2 disc. At the time I was really low and took a 10 mil ER to make my mood better, not really for pain, which was a mistake as I'm now taking too much this way. I'm really at a crossroads in my life and feel mood swings daily! I need to get a grip before it's too late! If I didn't have children I probably would already be gone to be honest! I'm hoping for a reply off someone who's been in similar situations and can give me a positive outlook for the future! Please help me. I'm seriously lower than a snakes belly and take more and more as...

Hey my fellow pals who understand what addiction is! So many of us have it and its the hardest thing to quit even if you WANT to! Right u know im right but dont blame yourself cuz statistics say that additive personalities are in our genes. We are the lucky ones that got it from your mom, father, grandfather, grandmother etc. Anyway what i guess i am trying to say that it down right fn sucks, its a big ass monkey on our backs and its NOT EASY to just STOP. Where do we get the strength and WILLPOWER?! I am sooooo mad at myself cuz i have been clean for many years. It started with 4 operations on my foot with no more pills of course i was so afraid of the withdrawal effect. So i went on a suboxone program. So what happens, i break 4 ribs and bruised my lung! Of course i needed painkillers...

Is there anything I can use to help with withdrawal symptoms? I'm addicted to stilpane and I stopped once but the withdrawal symptoms were terrible, then I started again. I need help urgently. ## Hello, Zee! How are you? Please seek medical attention. These contain Acetaminophen and taking that much of it in a day creates the risk of toxicity, which has the potential to be fatal. You may already have done permanent damage to your liver. Have you had any stomach pain? Any yellowing of the skin? You're going to need to do a slow taper to be able to stop taking them. ## Hi verwon I'm greatful to your reply the doctors don't tell you these things they actually the ones giving you the meds for pain relief because I had my womb removed a couple of years ago it was extremely pa...

I am a man who is trapped on methadone. I took opiates for three years and I was off for six weeks, with what felt like having the symptoms of flu. At age 28 I was prescribed methadone. That was 18 years ago. I have tried about 7 times to get off, all with very intense pain, sickness, and diarrhea (sic). I am now aware that I won't ever get off it now, as the methadone is in my bone marrow. I would love to have a life free from methadone, but it is never going to happen. I have been quoted up to £5000 for treatment, where the hell am I going to get money like that? I'm on 60mls a day, along with another highly addictive drug. Naltrexone and subutex are not an option as, if I go any lower than 60 I start to have very painful withdrawal symptoms. I have had a heart attack and...

naltrexone was prescribed following detox from opiate addiction......I'm trying to get off the naltrexone but I start having "withdrawal".....muscle pain, nausea...when I stop taking the naltrexone.....I've been opiate free for months.....why is this happening? everything I've read says that naltrexone is not physically addictive, but I'm starting to wonder......has anyone had this problem with naltrexone? ## Your body can become dependent on anything that you take for a long period of time, because it gets used to having that substance. This means that a sudden cessation may result in some withdrawal effects, though they aren't usually as severe as the withdrawals from an actual addiction. Have you consulted your doctor for assistance? ## Can I take Naltrexo...

Hello ...I have been taking Tramadol for many years and usually take more then I'm prescribed ...when I'm out of it I get really loopy and can't function right..... Does this mean I'm addicted? ## Hello, Sidney! How are you? Yes, it is possible that you're addicted. Do you experience any withdrawal symptoms, when you run out, such as those listed by the FDA, which may include nausea, fever, chills, rebound pain and diarrhea? Have you informed your doctor of the problem?

I just found out that my wife is trying to quit cold turkey hydrocodone that she has been taking for 7 years 325mg for her pain. she has only been off for 2 days and not feeling well at all I don't like the idea her going cold turkey. what should I be watching for? ## Hello, Baron! How is she doing? Are you sure of what she was taking? There is no 325mgs Hydrocodone, it usually comes in tablets coupled with Acetaminophen which would be the 325mgs, but the Hydrocodone would only be 5, 7.5 or 10. And how much was she taking, how often? It could be dangerous for her to try to quit cold turkey. It would be best to get medical assistance.

I broke my ankle two weeks ago and the doctor started me on 40 - 80 mg a day then after a week I dropped down to 20-30mg a day. It has been almost a total of 2 weeks on this medication and when I wake in the morning I feel sick and sweaty until I take my meds. I'm wondering if a person can go through withdrawal on such a small dosage and if so how long will it take for this to stop ## That's not really a small dosage, even being down to 20 to 30mgs a day is still a pretty high dose and yes, one can experience withdrawal symptoms, whenever your dosage is lowered, or if you stop taking it, according to the NIH. Other withdrawal effects may include rebound pain, fever, chills, and diarrhea. You weren't taking it for too long, so they will most likely subside in a week, or so. I...
