I have severe migraines I am currently taking 100 mcg of Duragesic patch changed every 48 hours and 5 10mg Vicodin. I have have bad reactions to preventative medications, chiropractic antidepressants and have built up a tolerance to pain meds. My pain is so severe I can't keep my food down. Does any one know if there is a higher dosage of Duragesic/Fentynal that would help with the pain. I am miserable and so sick I don't want to get up. ## Ask your doctor for vistaril it will cut that nausa down . It is both drugs giving you the nausea but you have to eat something .. Soup.. Canned broth ## Durgesic does come in higher doses. I've heard if 250 mcg. Be aware if you get a terminally ill disease such as cancer, this is what is used to treat it. Nothing stronger. ## I have canc...

I'm seeing my pain doctor and psychiatrist this week to get on a proper pain regimen for debilitating fibromyalgia, severe insomnia with central sleep apnea, PTSD/anxiety from significant abuse I'm working through, chronic daily headaches (advanced migraines), and chronic pain from multiple surgeries (pelvic, back, neck...) Because my doctors don't collaborate I need to suggest options to them. I am sensitive to many medications and have tried a lot over the years. I want my life back. I'm smart and resourceful and at my wits end. I'm on low dose Seroquel for sleep - too much daytime sedation, as Ambien and Trazodone don't work. I'm also on Tramadol, Ativan and Skelaxin during the day. I can't drive, work or function well on this plan. Amitriptyline cause...

I have been on Fiorinal w Codeine and Fioricet as well as Valium for Sleep. I have 3 herniated disks in my back, Scloroisis, Nerve Damage in my left leg and Chronic Migraines. No Doctors in Rhode Island will any longer prescribe medication, if they do it is only one medication, I used to get all 3 of my medications for these problems from one Doctor who was my primary until he informed me that he could no longer write those. If anyone know's anyone in Rhode Island Please Help! ## Hello Thank you for your reply. I was wondering if this is just in Rhode Island, becuase I am close to the border of Massachusett's. Perhaps I might be able to find a good Family Physician there? My regular Md, just told me to go to see a pain Specialist and that they have alternative ways of managing p...

Hi. I get severe migraines during the rainy season ( I know, Seattle? Basically ALL the time...) I also have sciatica and it has become much more painful since having my twins. I am desperate for some relief. Thanks! ## Hello, Twinmomma! How are you doing? Sorry about the pain you're in and congratulations on the twins! As to a doctor for pain medications, due to the new regulations that were put in place this year, if you require them on a long-term, ongoing basis, then you'll need to see a pain management specialist. General practitioners and surgeons have been severely restricted on what they can prescribed, how much they can prescribe, why they can prescribe it and how long they can prescribe it. Do you currently have a PCP that could refer you somewhere? That would be the e...

I am seeking a doctor, for one that will listen and not just try to rush through the visit. I have severe problems with my lumbar3, 4 and 5. Also have Fybromyalga and migraines. Because of the pain I am also severely depressed. It's been about 17 years that I have not had one day without pain. One of my biggest fears is having the doctor think I'm out just to seek the drugs. That is not the case. I'm currently taking Norco, Vicodin and Cymbalta 30MG but it's like getting my doctor to pull a tooth. My main thing is she won't listen. She is only in the office on Fridays and the PA will not refill my medications. ## Hello, Unfortunately, no one can really know ahead of time what a doctor is or is not willing to prescribe, as that is based on the doctor's discretion ...

My reuhmatologist does not want to prescribe hydrocodone anymore. I have severe pain from Lupus and arthritis. She has had me on this medication for 12 years. I have never, abused it, Now she decides she is afraid to write it with the new laws. She also treats my son who has fibromyalgia, epilepsy, which he dislocated his shoulder when he fell, during a grand Mal seizure, he has severe migraines and has tried every medication, even Botox, injections, and has discs problems in his neck because of his Down syndrome, which gives him terrible neck pain. After being patients for many years, she started us on their medications, she doesn't want to write them any more. ## You and your son need to see a Pain Management Dr. You will also need a copy of your medical records.

On a visit to San Antonio, TX in Dec. I was able to fill my pain med prescriptions. As of Jan. 1, a new law was put into place and now I can't fill my prescription. What pain medications will a doctor fill in this state/area? I have recent kidney surgery (my 4th) and a brain tumor that causes chronic migraines. ## Hello, Ginni! How are you? Do you mean they are prescriptions from a doctor in a different state? If so, you'll need to return to that state to get them filled. And without having an established relationship with a doctor, they aren't going to prescribe any controlled substances for you. There were new regulations put in place for that last year. Why didn't you get them filled in your home area? ## Doctors that r willing to write pain meds in New Mexico. I just...

it read that it's for controlling seizures (epilepsy). Nothing about migraines. ## can you explained why it was given or migraines? ## That's why it was prescribed to me but I stopped taking it because of the side effects. ## Hello, Puddlin! How are you? Many medications treat multiple conditions and these antiseizure ones have been shown to help with migraines, some mood disorders and certain types of nerve pain. Its side effects may include nausea, dizziness, anorexia and memory impairment. Some others that can also cross over and help with migraines are beta blocker blood pressure medications. Some antidepressants can also help with nerve pain. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Yes. It does help migraine headaches if you can get past the side effects. For me was itch...

Due to the new regulations that were put in place last year, if you require medications on a long-term ongoing basis for the management of chronic pain, you'll need to see a specialist. I am looking for an MD or Pain clinic that will prescribe pain medication in Rhode Island. I have 4 herniated discs, nerve damage in my leg, severe migraines. My former Md said that he could not longer prescribe due to the regulations, I dont want to have to move, that would be crazy to have to go through that, but I also do not want to continue living night and day in Agony, with not one Md that has any compassion, it seems all they care about is to look out for themselves, I only take 2 pain medications that I believe are both in class 1, but when you talk to a doctor about pain, they tell you to take tylenol. I am tired of theses doctors just caring about themselves, if you have a patient like myself, that has the MRI's and Catscans to show what my pain level is, they should be a...

I have suffered from cronic migraines for years. For breakthrough pain relief my neurologist has prescribed Hydrocodone 10/650. When I needed it, it worked well unless the migraine had developed to a complex migraine, then a trip to the ER was needed, and IV hydromorphon and phenergan seemed to do the trick. Now thanks to the new federal law, No more than 325 mg of acteomediphine can be in medications. Now my medication doesn't seem to be working as it once did! What can I do now, other than taking two pills, which I don't want to do at all! Help!! ## Hi Krisy, Sorry to hear about your situation. I'm no doctor, but I do know of some other people who have decided to just take an extra Tylenol (Acetaminophen) tablet to make up for the difference in dosing. On the other hand, y...

Looking for a doctor in Delaware/PA for pain management of severe migraine headaches who will prescribe oxycodone liquid. Have been to migraine clinics all over the country and tried Fentyl patch, Botox injections, triptan medications, morphine, diladid, with no relief for chronic dibiltating migraines. ## Has your doctor done any checking to see what's causing your migraines? The reason I'm asking is because Fentanyl is the strongest opiate available, so if it didn't help, it is unlikely that Oxycodone will help, regardless of the form its in. The FDA warns that opiate medications carry the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. Recently was accused by my pain doc of using morphine and hydromorphone. I am prescribed oxycontin, oxycodone plus fioricet with codeine by my neurologist for migraines. I am not sure but was told by my pharmacist that codeine breaks down as morphine and hydromorphone in the body. I do not cheat on my medications. He also did not see the drugs he prescribes in my system which are the oxycontin and oxycodone. My only answer was I assume I had a bad migraine and had taken the fioricet/codeine. I can't take the other meds when I have a migraine due to nausea. I would really like a coposetic answer because I do not take morphine or hydromorphone. I am tired of being accused of something I haven't done. I feel if I have an answer to the break down of the codeine it would be so helpful.

Have used generic Fioricet from Qualitest for quite some time. They helped with migraines. Now all of a sudden my pharmacy is using Watson-the blue pill and I cannot take them. They make me nauseous and do nothing for the pain. There is a difference in manufacturers. Anyone else have this problem or a solution. ## Yes, there can sometimes be differences in the substances in medications from one manufacturer to another. Unfortunately, some people are very sensitive to these differences and end up with medications that will not work for them. The only real solution would be to ask the pharmacy if they can get the other ways back in stock for you or call around to other pharmacies to see if they carry it. Are you doing any better, yet? ## Have called around to different pharmacies but they...

I have been suggested flexura d for migraine. Is this just a pain killer or a cure for migraine? ## This is an analgesic to alleviate the pain. The NIH lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding, and stomach irritation. There is no real cure for migraines, the only way to deal with them is either by treating them, or by eradicating the underlying cause. What types of tests have you had done? Are you on any other medications?

This new 224 pill is awful!! I get 180 a mon for severe migraines and its bad enuff I get nauseaus due to the pain. This new generic for from sun manuf makes me nauseas, and I get hives along with dry mouth! AWFUL! I went back to my dr that wrote me a new script. The bad side of it is I had to pay cash for them! I'm sure Sun will be getting a lot of negative feed back. I also read that it is sold in India black market!! ## Virtually every medication is available on the black market, in various countries, however, that means nothing in relation to its quality. And as to the negative feedback, not everyone's experience is going to mimic yours, they work fine for some people and not so well for others. That it how it always is with medications. I used to get a headache or pain reliever medicine in Tijuana in the 1980s that worked wonders for a friend who got migraines. It was not available in the USA as far as I know. I remember little about it except that it came in a cardboard box about 2" X 4" X 1/2" and I think the name was fairly long, maybe 4 syllables or more. I think it came in white tablets that were fairly large, though I am not sure that recollection is accurate. I think I would recognize the name if I saw or heard it but I just cannot recall it from my memory. Thanks so much for any help/ ## I'm sorry, but that's really not much information to go on, there are many products on the market that match such a description and since it was coming out of Mexico, there is a large list of medications it ...
