What the heck did they take vicodin off the market for? I know acetaminophen.... bad for your liver?.. the main ingreediant in over the counter tylenol. Ten years ago I was in a accident and broke my back and femur now I'm paralyzed and have had six surgery's and need to know what they are going to replace vicodin with (that works)!! I am not a drug addict, if I wanted to get high I'd smoke marijuana or do street drugs, but I don't want that. What I want is the pain relief like I got from the 660 vicodin that was working fine before they took it away. Now there are days that I lay in bed for 14 hours. I only took half a pill in the morning and the other half at dinner. And I have never had any of these side effects they say are caused by vicodin. Now I got norco10/325 an...

I have been suffering from a failed patella replacement for 12 years. Tramadol sometimes helps, but the risks for stroke are too high. I was being treated by a doctor in RI but he lost his license. Is there anyone in Boston area who can prescribe vicodin 10/325 legally? ## Well, any doctor can prescribe it legally. The main issues are just why its being prescribed, how much, for how long and etc. Learn more Vicodin details here. With the new regulations and issues on the east coast regarding doctors prescribing improperly and over prescribing, your best bet is going to be with a pain management specialist. Do you have a general practitioner that you see regularly who may be able to refer you somewhere? ## Risk for stroke? That's not an elevated risk with tramadol; no more than any o...

I had been taking Hydrocodone 5-500 (Vicodin) many years at the same dose when this drug was discontinued an replaced with the 5-325 (Norco) strength. I am still taking the same number of pills daily but after about three months I just do not feel like the new pills control the pain as well as the previous ones did. I know there is not supposed to be any different between the two other than the amount of acetaminophen is there anything else that might effect how the medicine is absorbed and how quickly it is? Any ideas would be appreciated, thx. ## Jerry, when you have a heneric, the amount of active ingredient may vary, the fillers also vary and this can make one slightly stronger or weaker than the other. If you have a generic that has 10 mg of a med, the actual amount may be 8 mg-12 ...

Does anyone know what a good replacement for vicodone since they took it off the market? My dr. put me on norco 7.5-325. These are a joke. I have to take 2-3 tabs when I was taking 1 tab.I am really screwed since I am allergic to codene, morphene, and most things that get me out of pain. I am on fentenal patch, but this replacement doesn;t make any sence. If I have to take 3 times the dosage I'm taking 3 times the acetaminophen. I was on percocet but now my insurance charges 3x the amount it used to cost, so thats not affordable. Any suggestions? Thanks ## Vicodin is still on the market, it an Norco actually contain the same active ingredients, Hydrocodone and Acetaminophen. Learn more Vicodin details here. Does anyone know of a pill or vitamin that closely resembles Vicodin regular strength? I did a bad thing, took my roomates last few that have been in his medicine cabinet forever, and would like to put something harmless back that won't raise any eyebrows... I know this is dishonest, but please help! Thanks. ## hyrebhyr hyhy 3 kjumju uren ## It is hard to say, since we have no idea what the pill you are speaking of looks like and they can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. That said, stealing and switching out someone's medications is NOT a good idea and quite illegal. Vicodin contains the active ingredients Acetaminophen and Hydrocodone, this is a narcotic pain reliever and if you replace it with something innocuous, they will know the difference as soon as they take one. ...

I am currently on 10 mg of methadone 16 times a day. I have to have something for my backpain but cannot deal with the side effects of methadone anymore. What would be a replacement drug that would be as effective? ## Hi Sara, Sorry to hear that your pain medication isn't working as well as you'd like it to. Some of these side effects can be pretty horrible, so I don't blame anyone for trying to find an alternative. A few suggestions I can give you for other prescription pain medications include: Demerol, Morphine, Vicodin (extended release), Percocet, Dilaudid, Opana, Oxycodone, and Fentanyl. Your doctor would have a better clue as to which one of these would best replace the drug you're currently on, but honestly, there's no way of telling ahead of time how you...

ARE THE WATSON 750 VICODIN GOING TO BE DISCONTINUED? WHY? IS NORCO GOING TO REPLACE THEM? I HAVE A CONCERN BECAUSE I LIKE THE VICODINS BECAUSE THEY TAKE AWAY THE PAIN I HAVE AND GIVE ME ENERGY. I SUFFER FROM BACK PAIN AND DEPRESSION DUE TO A FALL AT WORK. ## They are only changing the amount of Acetaminophen. But, they are doing that to all medications that contain Acetaminophen. The amount of Hydrocodone won't change. ## No, this is a good thing. Finally drug makers are being sued for people's liver failure. I had been wondering for years when they would take it off the market. Particularly harmful to addicts because who counts the acetaminophen dose when you want to swallow a fist full of Vicodin? The active ingredient and the purpose of this drug is hydrocodone 5/10 mg per ta...

I have a bottle of liquid Vicodin that expired in 2010 will it still work for pain ## Hi Karina, I would Not chance taking any medication that has expired . Especially after 4 years. It's not recommended. It can lose its effect or just plain go bad. ## There's actually a lot of conflicting information around the topic of expired medication, but according to a Harvard Medical School family health article, except in rare cases (i.e. tetracycline), there is little chance of danger due to taking medications even up to 15 years beyond their expiration date. This conclusion was based upon a study conducted at the request of the US military due to stockpiles of expensive drugs they could otherwise need to replace every few years. The conclusion was that 90% of those drugs remained effe...

I'm researching pain meds for my knee pain after a replacement. ## Naproxen is an nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory. Naproxen is the generic name for Aleve, The difference is that Aleve is OTC because it is only 220 mg and Naproxen is prescription because it is 500 mg. Vicodin is a combination of hydrocodone and tylenol. Hydrocodone is a narcotic and can be addicting. You must have a prescription to get Vicodin. ## @original post, No, Naproxen is not stronger than Vicodin. Although it could probably compare to the acetaminophen in Vicodin, the hydrocodone is still a far more potent pain reliever in and of itself. If you're unsure of which medication to take for pain relief, I think it would be wise to ask your doctor/surgeon for their opinion on what might be most appropriate for y...

Is it safe to take 2 10mg hydrocodones every 3 hours? I am 24 and I am scheduled to have a total hip replacement on the 18th. For the past two days I have been taking 2 hydrocodones, 1 gabapentin, and 1 robaxin every 3-4 hours to keep my pain under control so I don't end up in the er like I did on Wednesday. So my question is, is it safe to be taking all of these every 3-4 hours? ## Hello, Kat! How are you doing? I am very sorry that you're in so much pain. If you're taking Norco/Vicodin that also has Acetaminophen in it, then it is dangerous to take that many in a 24 hour period. You can't exceed 3,000mgs of Acetaminophen per day. Taking more than that risks an overdose, which could be fatal. It is really best to not take more than prescribed. You may want to contact yo...

My family Dr. like many others no longer prescribe pain meds for chronic ,long term patients. as a result of a bad car accident I have a broken back in two places a replaced shoulder and ruined hips. I don't like going to the pain clinics but will if that's the only way to get relief. Ide rather find a family/general practitioner who I can stay with.. Thanks for any suggestions for a understanding Doctor. ## PCPs can no longer prescribe such medications on a long-term ongoing basis, thus a pain management specialist is your only option. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Can anyone suggest a good doctor in that area? Have you tried asking your cur...

I have been prescribed Vicodin 10/325 for a couple of years for a failed patella replacement procedure. Now I have to wait at least 90 days for a total knee replacement and the pain is so bad the Vicodin is not effective. I'm looking for a good referral for a clinic in southern NH or northern MA who will prescribe something stronger, like Oxycodone, and not think I'm just trying to score pain meds. I don't want to increase my Vicodin consumption, as that leads to its own problems. Any help would be very much appreciated.

I was taking 3 10 mg oxycontin a day along with 8 norcos 10/325. I have been given oxycontin 20 mg three times a day to replace the 10 mg oxy and the vicodins. Is this enough to assure no wd from going totally off the vicodin or do I need a higher dose of oxy to cover it. I am not sure of the conversion from the vicodin to the oxy. Remember I was originally on the 10 mg oxys three times a day along with the vic. Thanks. ## Nancy, Without benefit of your dx's:,history or rx usage it would be impossible to predict if this transition will suffice. If your prescriber has full knowledge of your entire treatment history id have confidence that his decision is medically sound and will starve off any Withdrawl symptoms. As a chronic pain patient I do best with an extended release (OxyContin )...

I am currently taking vicoden for knee replacement surgery...is there any OTC pain med to take that would be similar? Thank you! ## Not in the U.S. Vicodin contains Acetaminophen and Hydrocodone. The Hydrocodone is a narcotic analgesic and there are none available over the counter in the U.S. The strongest medications for pain that are available over the counter in the U.S. are the basic nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories, such as Ibuprofen and Naproxen. Have you tried discussing it with your doctor?

i was prescribed this medication after i had a total knee replacement. if it is a blue oval with v15 on one side it definately is vicodin es 10ml. my doctor who rarely prescribes pain medication told me that it is very addictive. i was very pleased with the result and feel like it is better than the old lortab 10s. to WF if you found this in your sons room he probably bought it at school or from a friend who stole their parents medication. ## To post a response to someone else's message, you should place your reply right under it and use the submit reply button, otherwise they may not see it. My doctor put me on this drug as a replacement for oxycodone and it does nothing for my chronic rsd are there other pain meds that will give me the relief like oxycodone did. ## Because everyone reacts differently to prescription drugs (especially narcotic pain meds), there's really no way to tell ahead of time how any medication will effect you. Some patients may get great pain relief from Nucynta, while others may have to opt for oxycodone, hydrocodone (vicodin), opana, or dilaudid, for the same relief. Have you already asked your doctor about switching medications to something that may be more effective? ## Yes,I will see my regular pain management dr.
