An analgesic is any member of the group of drugs used to achieve analgesia, relief from pain. The word analgesic derives from Greek αν - ("without") and λγος - ("pain").[1] Commonly known as painkillers, analgesic drugs act in various ways on the peripheral and central nervous systems. They are distinct from anesthetics, which reversibly eliminate sensation, and include paracetamol (known in the US as acetaminophen or simply APAP), the non-steroidal anti-inflamma...

My son's wife is claiming her doctor told her she has lupus. I say claimed because she is a compulsive liar and we have not seen any of lupus or that he has even said this. She has a prescription a doctor is giving her of 150 Oxycodone a month that she uses up in 2 weeks. This is a huge concern of mine because the children are being neglected while my son is at work. She is so drugged up, the 1 and 2 year old are left gated in her bedroom while shes passed out from the drugs. Also, her pysch is gone. Shes irrational, turned very mean and abusive. Common sense is no longer there. What doctor in their right mind would prescribe that amount of pills month after month. I feel she is lying about having lupus. But Heppa law prevents my son from discovering the truth. HELP!! ## Hello, Dais...

I have gotten MRSA four times in the last three years, with two surgeries. My questions are: why do I keep getting the infection, also around the same time of year as the previous years had mrsa. Also, I have been on and off pain killers (oxycodone 5 mg) for the last three years and I believe I have gained somewhat of a tolerance for them. I do understand that improper use of prescription drugs is a huge problem and doctors are hesitant to prescribe them. But why is it that if I have to pay a huge doctor bill (100,000.00 just for the hospital bill the first time I got it) and I'm in a lot of severe pain the doctor won't give me the necessary dose or quantity of pain medication I need to be comfortable? ## Hello, Stephen! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem that you...

I have been on two or three pain medications for almost 20 years that have kept me going but my old pain management doctor is not there now and the ones who took over for him say they cant see me again because I did not tell them I was on meds from another doctor but I did let the doctor that I had been seeing know I was on the medicine plus the medicine he gave me. I am totally very upset. I am not a person who wants to do the drugs that I do but if I want to live a normal life I need them. I have had a life for the last 10 years and because of some people who abuse pills we all suffer. Why can't doctors listen to you. I need a new pain doctor that can just look at me and see that I have pain very severe pain. ## I am very sorry about what you're going through, I really hate to ...

Was with a pain center in South Carolina for three years, but they through me out because I was taking a cough medicine given to me by my regular doctor. They said it was in my urine and they did not prescribe it. They put me on Methadone 10 mg four times a day, Oxycodone 7.5 mg three times a day, and a lot of other drugs for the last three years. I was in a car accident ten years ago, and was pretty messed up from it. What can I do about the pain center? My reg doc told them she prescribed it to me for three months, and they said they did not care. ## If you had a treatment agreement contract with them that stated you couldn't take narcotics from other doctors, without their approval, or that you couldn't take them at all, then you breached that contract. It doesn't matter ...

We live in Burke VA. My husband has a rare disorder, Tardive Dyskinesia, that causes spasms and severe pain in his jaw and tongue. Currently there is no cure. He went to general practitioners, dentists, and neurologists, 7 in all, and none of them could figure out what was causing his problem. Finally a very respected and kind maxillofacial surgeon told my husband he would do everything he could to find out what the problem was. He did a lot of research and discussed the case with various colleagues and discovered it was a disorder caused by certain drugs that doctors had prescribed for my husband. He only takes on a few chronic pain patients at a time and fortunately he took on my husband's case. He's been treating my husband for about 14 years now. The only treatments availabl...

I have a close family member who has been in pain management for more than 10 years. We are now having great difficulty finding a pain management practice that will prescribe meds for his disabling pain issues. My family member has never abused drugs or substances of any kind and has tried every alternative to medication offered him. How is it that people who have been addicted to drugs, legal or illegal, can continue to go to clinics and receive maintenance medications, but my family member is unable to find a medical practice who will prescribe meds for him so that he can function and have some quality of life? ## Is he actually asking them prescribe medications? If so, most doctors will see that as drug seeking behavior, which they are taught under AMA guidelines. The best thing to d...

I have been on sever chronic pain meds for almost 14 years. upon moving to Oregon I discovered I had to get a new doctor. After several attempts with several doctors i am now with a pain management specialists, Covallis pain and spine. However, they have denied interest in keeping my meds anywhere close to where they have been for the past 13 years. I am not a doctor, I have however done everything I know to do to try to explain that what they are doing is only making my pain and my life more difficult to live with. I am not a drug seeker or an addict. I hate having to take drugs to have a shot at having some semblance of a "normal" life. But after having to endure so much for so long I am very close to throwing in the towel. I have been taking oxycodone, methadone and corisapro...

I have had 4 nerve blocks, trigger point injections, and allergic reaction to suboxone and fentalyn for three herniated discs lower back. I had to go back to oxycontin. My doctor has stopped taking workers' comp and I can't find another pain management doctor that will prescribe meds. I have been told that an operation cannot guarantee being pain free, and may make me worse, which I can't imagine living with. My life is consumed with living with this, and the government should stay out of the doctor patient relationship or question it for people who do not use drugs recreationally or abuse them. Government is scaring doctors away from treating the people who desperately need them. Does anyone know a pain management doctor in Nassau County, South Shore near Oceanside? Thanks ...

These days it's common for FM doctors to deny patients opiates on the grounds that studies have proven opiates to be ineffective against pain relief for FM. I've been unable to find any study supporting this that was not partly funded by Pfizer. This is problematic because Pfizer was convicted earlier this year of violating federal racketeering laws for it's marketing practices, which included making false claims about the effectiveness and lack of negative side effects of certain of its drugs. Perhaps you could help in this research. The next time a doctor tells you opiates have been proven ineffective against FM pain relief, ask: Do you know of any study supporting your position that was not funded by racketeers? Has anyone found Lyrica to be an effective replacement for o...

Hi. I am looking for a very caring PM Dr. in or around Milwaukee. He needs to be able to fill my Medtronic pain pump and help with other issues, especially RSD. Thanks in advance. ## Hello, Shirlock! How are you doing? Have you found a new doctor, yet? The best way that I can think of to find one in your situation would be to call your local hospitals and check with their social work department. They usually keep listings of doctors that are taking new patients and their various qualifications just to help people like you. :-) Are there any large hospitals near you? ## Been on different drugs for my chronic back pain. I am disabled and have never taken any illicit drugs. i've been prescribed methadone from a Doctor in Dallas for many years. I also have mobility issues as well, as I have had spinal cord surgery to alleviate chronic pain. My Dr is retiring after 40 years and Its mandatory that I find a new doctor. I have medical records and would be blessed to find someone who could help me. Going to a methadone clinic is not an option because they are treatment centers and will.not accept patients unless you lie and say you misuse your medication. I know that I was protective of giving out my Drs name as.a.referral but I have in dire cases like my own. If you can help I can a will help you for your generosity and understanding. I am addicted to opiates for pain. I abuse the oxy that I get. Would Sub or Methatdone be better for me with regards to pain? My husband has a history with drugs and has been on Methadone. He thinks Methadone is the way to go. ## Hi Sheri, I guess I am way too late but will throw in my two cents anyway. Im recovering from an opiate prob (percs) and am on a sub program. I found a good doctor, checked his background on the net, and am lucky. Things are going well.. Ok, I can answer with confidence that Suboxone is NOT a choice for you. Subs are used to fight an opiate addiction, not to treat pain. It was not designed for pain management, but Methadone is. I have read its especially used for end of life pain management. It has a long half-life and therefore is easier for people to overdose...

I want to know. If I take a 30 mg morphine a 7.5 oxycodone and a hydocodo/acetamin 7.5 650 mg can give me a bad reaction or would I just feel pain relief? ## You could kill yourself by doing that, I DO NOT recommend it!!!!!!! Best plan is to get on a pain management schedule with just ONE of the drugs you mentioned since if you are on the right dosage you should feel proper pain relief. Hope this helps and good luck!

I have Lupus, joint pain, chronic back pain I've just moved to the area and have been being treated prior by a pain management specialist who has me on 15 MG Oxycontin time release and 7.5 MG Percot for break through pain. i need to change medicine from oxycodone way too expensive to something as effective but not as expensive ## There are Morphine equivalents to all the formulations of Oxycodone, the time released, regular release and the instant release. They are all available as generics, so you could ask your doctor about them. I remember when I was on pain management and had a time period where we were switching from on insurance to the other, so there was a break where I had no coverage, the Morphine was less than half what the Oxycodone cost, though it is still not cheap. Are there any questions or comments?
