I was wheelchair-bound & in constant, horrific pain for eight years despite 2 lumbar surgeries & a C-spine surgery. After my last lumbar surgery, a year in a nursing home with an excellent physical therapist and the right medication my pain was under control...I could finally get out of bed after 8 yrs, walk a half mile, live a relatively normal life...I was even considering a part-time job eventually. My doctor had a stoke and was prescribing me 30 mg a day of methadone for a chronic pain syndrome..I am a 51 yr old that has never abused drugs!! I have a very bad neck injury and I'm taking 4 x 10mg oxycodone a day for pain. I've moved to Springfield recently and all of the doctors offices tell me "Oh, our policy is never to prescribe narcotics." Even the hospitals won't prescribe it and have a family practice docs list and at the bottom of the page the disclaimer states none of the above doctors will prescribe narcotics.
