I am a mother of 3 on medical assistance and have had trouble getting any help with my pain. I've been to several family doctors looking for help but because of this drug epidemic, they treat you like a drug addict and shew you out the door. They don't want to help and don't trust a thing you say. They look at an xray and mri and if there is no obvious sign ofl breakage, fracture or whatever else they look for, they don't trust a word you say. I deal with pain everyday of my life and severe migraines at least once a month and the doctors here are so in fear and are so use to dealing with drug addicts, that they offer no help. I am so tired of going through pain and need help in finding a more understanding doctor, willing to help someone who does not have a slipped disk ...

I was dropped from consultants in pain management due to my blood pressure being high twice within 10 days. I now am on new medication, 40 mg Lisinopril and my blood pressure is back to normal. This means, that I am in search of a new specialist. I am 63 years of age and still working after numerous surgeries from injuries that are all documented. I am leaving for Baltimore Maryland in a week but will need to have a prescription with me in order to perform my duties. Can anyone suggest a provider for me? Thank you in advance. ## That is very odd, that's not a normal reason for them to dismiss someone, usually they give you a chance to see your primary care physician, or a cardiologist to get it under control. How high was it? Can you post back with some of the readings? The FDA list...

What pain med can I take while taking sulfamethoxazole? I wanted to take something for pain and all I have is naproxen. Can I take it while taking this medicine or an ibuprofen 800mg? ## The University of Maryland Medical Center (umm.edu) has a drug interaction tool you can use to plug in and check for interactions between various medications. I went ahead and looked up the combination of Naproxen + Sulfamethoxazole as well as Ibuprofen + Sulfamethoxazole and didn't find any warnings listed. While this does not necessarily mean that no interactions exist, I personally haven't come across any specific details stating otherwise. However, if in doubt, it's always a good idea to double check with your doctor first. If you happen to have any other types of pain medication in mind...

I need help finding a new PM doctor in Maryland that will prescribe ongoing opiates. I have fibromyalgia and 2 herniated discs with left & right leg radiculopathy. I am currently taking Cymbalta 60mg, Percocet 10/325 (which barely helps and was just reduced to bid) and Gabapentin 300mg bid (which I'm coming off of bcuz of severe anxiety and mood swings). I was changed from Lyrica bcuz although it was helping with the pain it made me feel awful. My PM doctor had given me 3 steroid injections with each helping less than the first and now she trying to wean me off the Percocet bcuz she states I have been taking it for a year and the treatment plan has not helped. I am looking for a Dr in MD that will continue to prescribe my opioids and hopefully include a long-acting opioid into m...

I take 0.5mg of Clonazepam for anxiety. Is it safe to take Meloxicam as well? My Dr. prescribed it to me for back, neck and all over pain due to herniated discs and a bulging disc. ## Hi Mel, According to the University of Maryland Medical Center (umm.edu / drug interaction tool), there are no interactions listed between Meloxicam and Clonazepam. This doesn't necessarily mean that no interactions exist, so it's probably best to discuss any concerns with your doctor first. However, I don't see why your doctor would prescribe two meds that contradict one another in such a way. I also haven't come across any information suggesting that it's unsafe in my own investigation. Hope this helps! ## Hi, thanks for your response. What do you mean they contradict each other? One ...

I am wondering if I can take lidoderm 5% (lidocaine) while on 130mg of methadone? ## What can I use for charot marie tooth disease if my pain is a 10? ## @Adrianne, According to the University of Maryland Medical Center (umm.edu / drug interaction tool), there are no interactions listed between Lidocaine and Methadone. That said, although it may appear to be safe to use together, I would still encourage you to contact your prescribing doctor first or a pharmacist who can assure you of this information. @Tom, Have you discussed any potential treatment options with a pain management doctor or specialist? If not, this may be your best starting point as they can make the most appropriate recommendations based on your medical history and so forth... I hope you both are doing well!

I take Lortab for chronic pain, Gemfibrozil for high cholesterol, and Bupropion for anxiety. I have gained 40 lbs. Is it safe to take Lipozene (Glucomannan) for weight loss with these? ## Hi Katie, According to the University of Maryland Medical Center (umm.edu / drug interaction tool), there are no interactions or contraindications listed between the medications you mentioned, including the addition of Lipozene (Glucomannan). However, this is not to say that no interactions exist at all, so I would still encourage you to double check with your doctor first; but hopefully this will help add some peace of mind. My best wishes to you on reaching your weight loss goals! You can do it! :D

I been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis and ran out of my hydrocodone prescription, I also was prescribed a muscle relaxer carisoprodol for my back pains can I take ibuprofen 600 mg with my muscle relaxer until hydrocordone can be filled. ## Using the University of Maryland Medical Center's (umm.edu) drug interaction tool, their webpage doesn't display any interactions between Carisoprodol and Ibuprofen. Based off this information alone I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be safe to use the two together; outside of their own individual side effects. However, I do think it's always a good idea to inform your doctor of any new medications first, just in case something were to happen *knock on wood*. I have bad anxiety and I take both Oxymorphone HCL 5mg as well as Oxymorphone HCL 10mg ER painkillers. I take 5 Oxymorphone hcl 5mg pills a day for breakthrough pain and Oxymorphone HCL 10mg ER twice a day. I also take 5 mgs of Valium once a day. Is that ok if I spread everything out? ## Hi Lisa, According to the University of Maryland Medical Center (umm.edu / drug interaction tool), taking Oxymorphone with Valium is generally not recommended and may cause problems with your breathing. Because the potential for interaction is reportedly very high, they encourage patients to contact their doctor about adjusting the dose and/or frequency of dosing to help mitigate possible risk factors. Oxymorphone is said to have an estimated half life of 8 hours. So spreading things out sounds to me li...

Hello, I live in Waldorf Maryland I was seeing a wonderful doctor until he passed away. I was getting 90 30mg pills until I changed it to 120 15mg. ( I know what your thinking but I didn't want to have to cut it in half when I needed less ). Because of all the crap associated with anyone taking an narcotic I'm having an extreme issue with finding another doctor. For years I saw this sweet old man and filled them in the office pharmacy I had no idea there was this much of a stigma about the pain drug and the people that take them. If anyone knows of a doctor that I could talk to that dose not give people the run around. ## HI, Gail! Sorry about the problem that you're having. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center (umm.edu / drug interaction tool), there are no interactions listed between Cyclobenzaprine and Methocarbamol. While this does not necessarily mean that no interactions exist, it is my personal opinion that they're deemed as safe to take together. I've had a migraine for almost 2 days. Past issues with these headaches are typically only resolved by taking ibuprofen. Problem is I am taking xarelto and I was told to only take Tylenol if I need pain relief. I have been taking Tylenol and it is not helping one bit. I thought my doctor said "occasionally" no more than 600mg of Advil would be okay, but I can't seem to reach anyone on the weekend. Please help! ## Hi Kyle, According to The University of Maryland Medical Center drug interaction tool, there is a high interaction potential between Advil and Xarelto. They go on to note that using an anticoagulant with a NSAID is generally not recommended, but because it may be needed in certain cases, you and your doctor should work together to find an appropriate dosing regi...
