Two months ago I went to my pain clinic to pick up my prescriptions for 120 60mg morphine pills and 90 30mg morphine pills .My prescriptions were changed without warning to 60 100mg morphine pills and 45 30mg morphine pills. I've been on this medication for 5yrs. and the dosage for over a year.My pain was manageable but not now. I was told everyone was cut back due to dea regulations. That they could legally only prescribe this amt now n Alabama. Is this true? ## Yes, it is true and actually the regulations for this have been in place for quite awhile, but no one was strictly enforcing them. However, due to increasing concerns over improper prescribing and over prescribing, the DEA has had to crackdown and enforce the dosing limits. Pharmacies also got served warnings, because they w... ...

My dr in mont al has been prescribing me 3 80mg oxycontin for several years. My visit last wk he refilled my scrip and said it could be the last because he was told there was diversion possibly coming from his practice.Btw that was 3 a day. If he doesn't refill my scrip on my next visit. I need to find a DR quick. Is it legal not to wean a patient off? The pain clinics in this town are full. ## If he cannot continue to prescribe, he should be able to refer to another doctor or clinic that will accept his current patients. Has he suggested anyone? And yes, it is perfectly legal for a doctor to stop prescribing your medications, even if they are habit forming, at any time. They are not obligated to treat you or prescribe anything, unless you are in life threatening danger. As a courtes... ...

Some advice I can give you is to not specifically ask for any 'specific medication' when you see a new doctor. Just make sure to transfer or take a copy of all your medical records with you. Then, the best approach in my o... ...

Moved To Colorado 3 weeks ago from Alabama. Seeking pain management doctor ## Hello, Brian! How are you? Pain management specialists don't advertise that they treat with opiates, so there's no way to search for listings under that criteria. Do you have a PCP in your new area, yet? If so, they will most likely be able to provide you with a referral to a doctor that can help. ...

New pain medication laws dictating to doctors that they cannot prescribe anything equivalent 120 mg of morphine or higher a day per patient

I was told Friday by my Pain Management Doctor at my monthly appointment that the DEA was implementing a new law dictating to doctors on how much pain medication they could prescribe per patient per day. It could be equal to no more than 120 mg of Morphine per day per patient and they had to comply within 3 months for all of their patients. I am trying to find out as much information on this as possible. I don't know if my Pain Management Doctor is stating fact or if he is just running scared and if he is stating fact, I don't know if this is federal or state (Alabama) mandated. I spoke directly with the Southeastern division of the DEA in Atlanta this morning and they are not aware of any law of this nature coming into effect and I also contacted another pain clinic locally tha... ...

I was recently switched from soma to baclofen. The Baclofen makes me feel very strange and I cannot function as well on it as I can with Soma. My doctors in Alabama refuse to prescribe me Soma even though I have been put on different muscke rekaxers, Soma works best with my body. You are dismissed for a positive drug screen for heroin....WHAT?????
Post a Reply
After reading the listed articles, I see that it is quite common for those taking Morphine and Oxycodone for pain on a regular basis to come up positive for heroin on drug screens. This situation happened to my husband this week. He had been on long-term MS-Contin 60 mg tid and Oxycontine 10 mg qid for breakthrough pain. At his last clinic visit, we were blown away when he was dismissed for doing heroin. He was told that for the numbers to be as high as they were, he would've had to ingested (eaten) the heroin. In spite of the absurdity of this being right, they still kicked him out of the clinic. I am SO thoroughly sick of him being treated like cattle at a sale for treatment of his chronic pain, that I could just scream. Denise in Alabama......DISGUSTED!! ...
