Currently taking 40 mg OxyContin sr but they are back ordered for months. Dr suggested hydromorphin but I'd like to be sure I get the equivlant dose to the OxyContin. I take three hydrocodone 10/325 at once. Would taking one 30 oxycontin be the the same? ## Taking one 30mg Oxycontin would not be the same as taking three 10/325mg Vicodin tablets. I say this for a number of good reasons: 1. Acetaminophen + Hydrocodone are completely different drugs than Oxycontin (different chemical structures mean different effects as well as side effects) 2. Oxycontin is an extended release version of Oxycodone; meaning that it's effects will last a lot longer than Acetaminophen + Hydrocodone in and of themselves. 3. The inactive ingredients are also going to be different in each medication; which means you may have a completely different reaction to one v.s. the other. 4. I live in SF, SD & cannot get adequate pain management due to DEA. Actually several docs have left pain mgmt field because of it. I have addiction history although it's been years since I've been actively addicted I take meds as prescribed but can't get enough strength to manage pain. I suffer chronic migraines & have 7 herniated discs as well as other pain issues. Need a doc who knows about addiction & pain management. Any help would be appreciated greatly

I have been on regular Oxycodone- one 20mg pill every 4-6 hrs a day for approx 6 mos I used to be prescribed 10 MG TWO PILLS every 4-6hrs prior to the switch by my doc. Now, my pain has greatly increased and NOW he has given me 30 mg 4x a day and another script for oxycontin 60mg 2x a day. I've been on oxycontin for a year---for pain. Had a bad accident, almost three dozen fractures. Have been tapering for past couple months, down to 10 mg oxycontin/day plus one or two 5 mg fast-acting oxycodone if withdrawal starts. So I'm on about 15-20 mg total/day. I plan to go cold turkey on Friday. Am I crazy to think that in a week to 10 days I'll be back to "normal." I've heard everything from 1 week to 3 months for withdrawal to go away. I just picked up my monthly Rx for OxyContin 80mg and they were the new generic Watson OC/OP here in the USA. They look identical to Purdue pharma pills as far as color and markings..I haven't tried them yet but I sure hope they work like the old version OC. I will let you all know if I can tell a difference. Lets hope they are somewhat as strong as the old OC formula.
