I had extensive back surgery 5 months ago and i also have severe migraines. i have 1 oxycontin 10 mg tab left and i am in a lot of pain today. can I take the oxycontin ? i took 2 tablets of 5/325 oxyco/acetam 3 hours ago ## Hello, Andrayan! How are you? You should be able to take it, as long as your doctor approves. It would best not to combine them, without checking with your doctor, due to the fact that you may risk an overdose, if the dose higher than what you usually take. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

I suffer with Fibromyalgia, erosive Osteoartritis and bilateral carpal tunnel with a adhesive capsulitis left shoulder. Some of these conditions developed after my car was struck by a moving school bus. I have been able through therapy and doctor prescribed daily medication of oxycodone (oxycontin) 40 mg CR tablet with I take daily on a regular routine to keep my medical conditions to a comfortable level. My medication is monitored by Pain Management & Rheumatologist Clinic. I recently had surgery on my leg for melanoma and am suffering from gallstones, a bladder infection and kidney stone. Really in pain the "oxycontin 40 mg CR tablet" is a long term release and is not cutting through the present pain from gallbladder and kidney stones. The doctor is prescribing a medicatio...

I was taking 40 mg of OxyContin for a rare bone syndrome. I have chronic back, leg, and joint pain. I starter taking percocet but I find to get the pain managed I have to take up to at least 5 pills at once of the percocets to match that of the OxyContin. Is this okay and does that make since? Especially since I am taking up to 15 a day? should I just ask to be switched back to OxyContin? ## I am very sorry that you're in so much pain. Yes, you should definitely look into switching off of the Percocet. It contains both Oxycodone and Acetaminophen and you are exceeding the daily maximum dosage of Acetaminophen, which is just 3,000mgs. Each Percocet tablet contains 325mgs of it, so you should not be taking more than 9 of them a day, at most. Taking more than that risks fatal toxicity....

would this be classified as oxycontin ? they are small pink pill--19mg ## Percocet contains Acetaminophen and Oxycodone in a regular release formulation, so the equivalent without the Acetaminophen would be Roxicodone. OxyContin is a time released formulation. Additionally, there is no 19mg tablet. Are there any markings on the tablet in question? ## Oxycontin is simply an extended release version of Oxycodone. Without Acetaminophen though, Percocet would just be Oxycodone (immediate release). Is there an imprint on the pill you are describing? I may be able to look it up for you to provide you with more details such as dosage, manufacturer, etc. I hope this helps! ## I just had a c section 4days ago and my obgyn prescribed me percocet 10-325 and ibuprofen 800mgs. I had back surgery for degenerative disc disease in November,1997 to relieve excruciating severe lower back pain. The neurosurgeon implanted a Bak-Cage, *L3,4 and 5*, Unfortunately the surgery was not a success which simply disabled me, I had no other alternative, I now rely on Social Security and I live my life in 'Chronic' extreme back pain, thankfully there are medications that can help. After my surgery, I began seeing a phyciaciatrist and he has been my doctor ever since. I was placed on OxyContin for a short time. Then I then was prescribed morphine. Morphine did not help my pain whatsoever, in fact I was just a miserable zombie. I was then placed on Lorcet 10/750 until the FDA put restrictions on the amount of Acetominiphine. My doctor still prescribed me lorcet 10/650 eve...

Suppose take 1 tablet every 12 hours. Took 2 doses so far. At 5:00 pm then 5 am. Not working. Any suggestions ## Hello, Cindy! How are you? It may not be a strong enough dose to alleviate your pain. Have you informed your doctor? He may need to raise your dosage. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Is oxycontin and Percocet the same thing except without the tylenol ## Yeah. It's usually extended release instead of the percocet, which is immediate release. Not all the time but that's what I've seen. ## Hello, Katy! How are you? No, Raine, you are correct, both contain Oxycodone, but Percocet also contains Acetaminophen/Tylenol and Oxycontin just contains Oxycodone in a 12 hour time released formulation. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything I can help with? ## Is a 18 mg xtampza ER stronger or the same as Percocet 10mg? ## Suzie, Both medications contain oxycodone xtampza er is an extended rele...

Hi everyone. To the point - I have arthritis due to many years of rough living (motorcycle accident -2- and bull riding) and as such have had multiple broken bones. Long story short, I've been on Norcos for roughly 6 years and am worried about the constant daily intake of Acetaminophen and what it may potentially be doing to my liver. My current dose is 1-Norco when I wake / 1 or 2 at lunch / then another 1 or 2 again at bedtime. I've been prescribed Oxycontin but could not get along with it at all - it made me incredibly tired and itchy. So, would a drug such as Opana be a viable option for someone like me? My Md assures me I'm okay at my current level of acetaminophen but I worry... Does anyone have any experience with a switch such as the one I propose? ## Yes, after bein...

which is stronger--10 mg of Percocet or 15 mg of oxycontin? Which is more addictive? ## Hello, CS! How are you? They both contain the same narcotic, which is Oxycodone. Thus, technically the 15mg Oxycontin is stronger, but it is time released and doesn't work all at once, like the Percocet. Percocet also contains Acetaminophen with the Oxycodone, which helps it work better for some people. And thus, that means that neither is more of less addictive. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. I need an extended relief med, I have Hep C so do not want any acetaminophen and all this info is coming from the pharmacist I need to find an alternative extended relief pain medication in lieu of morphine or anything with acetaminophen due to my Hep C liver condition; currently applying for disability and all of this is coming from the pharmacist not the actual doctor. ps I live in FL ## Hello, Beckie! How are you? There is a time released formulation of Oxycodone available that's called Oxycontin, which contains no Acetaminophen and there is also a time released pain patch available called Duragesic, which contains only the narcotic Fenantyl, so you may want to discuss these options with your doctor. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and ma...

My daughter is in stage 4 lung cancer. Her liver levels were very high. Is it caused by OxyContin (60mg)? ## Hi Chi, I'm very sorry to hear about your daughter's condition. According to NIH.gov, "Oxycodone by itself has not been linked to serum enzyme elevations during therapy or to clinically apparent liver injury." However, they go on to note that the combination of oxycodone with acetaminophen is linked to many cases of acute liver failure caused by an unintentional overdose of acetaminophen. Source: livertox.nih.gov/Oxycodone Having said this, my theory is that OxyContin isn't the culprit. Is your daughter taking anything else or undergoing chemo? I hope she makes a full recovery.

seem to be getting confused between the differences as I did think both were opiates ## Hello, Todd! How are you? I'm sorry about your confusion and I'm happy to help clear it up for you. Oxycontin contains the opiate Oxycodone in a time released formulation. However, Percocet contains Oxycodone coupled with Acetaminophen. Oxycodone is also available as a regular release formulation and an instant release, called Roxicodone and Oxy IR, respectively. The FDA lists this as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I have been prescribed Belbuca 150 mcgs to take in addition to Percocet 10/325 tid. Should this provide...

I have a white oblong pill with V 3592 on it, is this Oxycontin 10 mg ER? ## This tablet contains Hydrocodone 5mg + Acetaminophen 500mg (NDC 0603-3881). Inactive Ingredients: - Hypromelloses - Lactose Monohydrate - Magnesium Stearate - Sodium Starch Glycolate Type a Potato Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. This medication also carries the risk of being habit forming. Another note that needs to be added here is that as of 2013, the FDA has made a request that all manufacturers lower the amount of Acetaminophen in these combination prescription products to no more than 325mgs per dose. There are legitimate concerns about the dangers of liver damage and failure that can be associated with long-term use of high amounts, as well as the toxic...

i had a broken leg in 2007 was prescribed vicodin 750, in 2010 i had major brain surgery and was prescribed more 750 mg vicodin, but my tolerance is so high that my doctor prescribed me oxycotin 30 mg, can you please tell me what one pill of 750 vicodin equals one pill of 30 mg oxycotin./....please help ## if u are taking the 10/750 vicodins, the 30 mg oxy is like taking 3 vicodins. oxy is an opiate as well. minus the acetametaphine (tylenol) that's in vicodin.. ## Yes, the Oxycodone is stronger, but I can't really give you a comparison, without knowing the precise dosage of the Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen combination you were taking. The 750 you posted just refers to the Acetaminophen, but there are several different strengths of the Hydrocodone available. Have you tried the Oxyc...

I have been in pain management for 12 yrs. I have just been changed to 10 mg roxicodone 4xs day. use to take 10 mg perocet. Plus my normal 80 mg. Oxycontin 4 per day. My question is what is the difference between 10mg roxicodone and 10mg perocet ## Hello, Suzie! How are you? Percocet contains Acetaminophen and Oxycodone, the Acetaminophen augments the action of the narcotic, so it makes it more potent and effective for some people. However, the Roxicodone only contains the Oxycodone, by itself. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. How many 5/325 oxycodone/acetaminophen equals 80mg of oxycontin? ## Hello, Hank! How are you? Oycodone is also the active ingredient in Oxycontin, so you'd need 80mgs of it to be equal, though likely a little less to account for the Acetaminophen, since it potentiates it. However, you'd have to take far too much of it to be safe, because 16 tablets would equal 5,200mgs of Acetaminophen, which exceeds the toxic amount. You can't take more than 3,000mgs of it a day, or you risk fatal toxicity. The FDA lists this medication as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Which one has been prescribed for you?

I take three hydrocodone 10/325 at once. Would taking one 30 oxycontin be the the same? ## Taking one 30mg Oxycontin would not be the same as taking three 10/325mg Vicodin tablets. I say this for a number of good reasons: 1. Acetaminophen + Hydrocodone are completely different drugs than Oxycontin (different chemical structures mean different effects as well as side effects) 2. Oxycontin is an extended release version of Oxycodone; meaning that it's effects will last a lot longer than Acetaminophen + Hydrocodone in and of themselves. 3. The inactive ingredients are also going to be different in each medication; which means you may have a completely different reaction to one v.s. the other. 4. There's a good reason your prescribed one and not the other. Oxycontin from what I hear...

I recently, had my med changed from vicodin 7.5mg 5xqd to lortab 10-500mg tablet. 5xqd question is, "Is the lortab a higher dose of medication than the vicodin. ## Lortab and Vicodin both contain Hydrocodone, a synthetic opiate or opioid, as their narcotic analgesic. As such, your dosage strength increase is only in the amount of pills you are now taking, not in the opioid ingredient. Oxycodone, used in Percocets and OxyContin, is slightly stronger . . . a 5/325 Perc is equivalent to a 7.5 Lortab. I am not gonna go into the added NSAIDs like THVQEDylenol, ASAP, or aspirin on this question. The best of luck and the least of pain to you . . .
