Oxycontin 15 Mg

I have oxycontin 15 mg for cancer pain. Finding it difficult to determine how much is released into the bloodstream at intervals. Does it 'peak' at a certain time? Or, once it breaks down inside the body, is it an even release throughout the 12 hours? I'm imagining it is like taking 5 mg of oxycodone every 4 hours. Correct? Thanks! ## Hello, Matronum! How are you? The way it is made, the pill media slowly dissolves over a period of 12 hours, due to your stomach acid, so the medication is just very gradually release, rather than releasing boluses every so many hours. Think of an ice cube slowly melting in a warm room, it's really just drop, by drop, until it fully melts. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects,...

If I take 2 of the 30 mg oxycodone and I have the 60 mg oxycontin. Can you cut a 60 mg oxycontin in half and take it that way to get the immediate effect you get with taking 2 of the 30 mg oxycodone. I have to mail order my medications and there was a mix up and I have been taking for 15 years for chronic pain. Just trying to get by without going 2 hours to my dr to get a written script and then it would mess up my scripts again!! Thanks for the help. ## Hello, Susie! How are you? No, the new Oxycontin are actually tamper proof, so they prevent anyone from being able to do that. If you cut them up, you will just get a ball of goo that still releases the medication just as it should. However, there could also still be a risk of getting too much, at once, and suffering an overdose. This i...

I'm taking the 15mg extended release OxyContin for severe back pain and degenerative disc disease as I was switched from 10 mg 10/325 Percocet BUT the switch is not working for me, I have not been getting relief and am still in pain, is this normal? My Dr is giving me a hard time now about writing me the prescriptions and has literally ignored my diagnosis as she claims the state of Vermont is cracking down on these types of meds... Which what the hell does that have to do with me? I'm taking them for the massive constant pain I'm in and still can't even work back to full time yet... I was on methadone for 7 years my doc and I decided to get of it,I am on OxyContin 15mg q12 hrs along with 10 mgs of narco 10mg 3x a day should this be sufficiently controling my pain? ## Hello, Deb! How are you? What dose of Methadone were you taking? I can't really answer your question without knowing this additional detail. It depends on that and the severity of your pain. Are the new medications working for you? The FDA classifies these as narcotic analgesics, so they have the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. ## I'm sorry I was then actuallyon 15 mg of methadone the day I got myself down to that much because I didn't like taking it.but now my pain was not adequately controlled so ...

How long does it take for OxyContin 40mg CR taken twice daily to get in my system and provide full effect? I was prescribed these and am on my 3rd day taking them with 2 loratab 10mg for breakthrough and have received a different effect each time taking the OxyContin-Also, is the 40mg OxyContin a standard dose for someone that has been taking 3 10mg loratab for break through pain with 3 15mg morophine ER daily for continued relief? ## Yes, that is a fairly standard dose, but while it should have some immediate effect, it may take 4 to 5 weeks for it to reach its full level of efficacy in you body. The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. Has there been any improvement, yet?

My PM doc changed my med to oxycontin 15 mg every 12 hour with oxycodone 5 mg every 8 if needed. Not working great. Only gave me 2 week supply with appt.As opposed to the usisland 30 day no appt. At the end of the 2 werks. As he has been resistant to all suggestions including from staff,do you think the 2 weeks is because he might be willing to increase? ## No one can know the mind of your doctor, but it is a possibility. When do you see them, again? The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. It's common to have patients come in more frequently, at first, to work with the dosages to see what gets their pain under control. Is ther...

I'm having break thru pain which is seriously painful. What could My pain Dr do? ## Hello, SolidMike! How are you? Since this is a time released medication, your doctor could prescribe an instant or regular release one, in addition to it, to help with breakthrough pain. There are quite a few choices that can be prescribed. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Have you spoken to them about the problem? ## I I really feel for everyone here that is really hurting and not just seeking a high. my Dr has me on 2 -15Mg Ms Contin per day with 2- percocet 10's. well long story short they aren't helping at all.what is the next step? can't sleep. const...

My PM MD just prescribed Oxycontin 15mg 3x to replace the too-many hydro & oxycodone pills I've been taking for severe back/hip pain. Just saw a UM surgeon who says surgery is not an option; its scoliosis and arthritis. Anyway, I've called over 10 pharmacies, including CVS and Wal-Green 24 hr. locations - and NOBODY has any Oxycontin. Having to call all over the place makes you feel like a degenerate junkie - when you mention the drug the phone goes silent. I'm simply trying to find relief and stop killing my liver! Anyone know why there is such a shortage? ## There is a policy in S. Fl where many pharmacies do NOT stock OXY. They will order it for a patient, and while the first fill may suffer a delay of a few days, thereafter they can reorder it in advance of your refi...

How do you figure a morphine equilvalant. What is the max a pain management MD can prescribe with the new laws? ## Hello, Kate! How are you? The overall directives as to prescribe no more than the equivalent of 120mgs of Morphine per day, though some states have lowered it even further to no more than 100mgs. As to the conversion, Morphine is one a half times weaker than Oxycodone. Thus, the equivalency would be 80mgs of Oxycodone per day to equal the maximum of 120mgs of Morphine. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. However, these limits do not apply, if someone has intractable pain from a possibly fatal condition, such as st...

which is stronger--10 mg of Percocet or 15 mg of oxycontin? Which is more addictive? ## Hello, CS! How are you? They both contain the same narcotic, which is Oxycodone. Thus, technically the 15mg Oxycontin is stronger, but it is time released and doesn't work all at once, like the Percocet. Percocet also contains Acetaminophen with the Oxycodone, which helps it work better for some people. And thus, that means that neither is more of less addictive. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

I've been taking Oxycodone 30 mg for neuropathy several years. Recently I was hospitalized five weeks and put on OxyContin 40 mg plus Oxycodone 15 mg for breakthrough which worked like a charm. My problem being is that my 77 year old PCP won't prescribe a time-release and considers them dangerous. My question is this; how do I wean off this med using my leftover 30 and 15 mg Oxycodone until I can locate a new doctor who will prescribe the OxyContin? Plus I'll need to wean from my Oxycodone if I can't locate a doctor. I fear the withdrawal plus the horrible pain of Neuropathy returning full guns if I can't find a new doc. PLEASE someone PLEASE help me with this problem as I'm terribly frightened ## Clonidine helps for withdrawal symptoms. ## Thanks so much for ans...

Hi, I've been on 30mg of oxycodone a day_-20 mg on waking and 2 sep. doses 5 mg through day. I have a severe neuropathic/nerve pain and an upregulated central nervous system which includes akathisia. The oxycodone had been a life saver. It also stopped the terrible depression and terror I had been feeling since a bad medication reaction brought on this whole syndrome. One more 5 mg a day would have been really needed, but at least I had started to feel I could survive and life was starting to improve. I was really staring to enjoy living again much of the time. Long story, govt. steps in, no more oxycodone. Saw lovely pain specialist, and he's put me on oxycontin 30 mg morning, 15 mg night. This was 6 days ago. Each time I've taken oxycontin, instead of the unagitating, untw...

I was taking 40 mg of OxyContin for a rare bone syndrome. I have chronic back, leg, and joint pain. I starter taking percocet but I find to get the pain managed I have to take up to at least 5 pills at once of the percocets to match that of the OxyContin. Is this okay and does that make since? Especially since I am taking up to 15 a day? should I just ask to be switched back to OxyContin? ## I am very sorry that you're in so much pain. Yes, you should definitely look into switching off of the Percocet. It contains both Oxycodone and Acetaminophen and you are exceeding the daily maximum dosage of Acetaminophen, which is just 3,000mgs. Each Percocet tablet contains 325mgs of it, so you should not be taking more than 9 of them a day, at most. Taking more than that risks fatal toxicity....

I am currently taking oxycontin 40 mg and I going from a private insurance plan to a Humana PPO Medicare advantage plan and they don't cover it. Some of the other option they recommend from humana was Methadone, Hydromorphone, Codeine Sulfate, Fentanyal Patch, Morphine, and oxycodone IR. I know Oxycodone is the same active ingredient oxycontin but I also take Oxycodone 15mg for breakthrough pain. It helps somewhat but it does help enough. My good day after taking the medicine and having my spinal cord stimulation implant device on is a 5 but an avg. day is 7.5. To give you a idea what a five to me is I broke both of my arms with one bone poking through was a 5.5 and that is a good day for me. My doctor is very hard to get him to increase my dose. So maybe one of these other medicati...

Well unfortunately I really messed up and started taking OC twice a day 12 hours a part. I worked my way up to taking 40-60 mg in the morning and 80 mgs at night. i originally started using after severe depression and anxiety and wanting to feel better to fill an emotional void left by a really bad year in my life which led me to start using. No BS here, I wanted to feel better and unfortunately started using and am on week 14 of my addiction. I have had enough though and am just writing to share my story and experience and will continue to write during my detox. I feel ashamed, nervous, scared, and angry that I began using. It is against everything I knew and knew better. I finally came to the conclusion that I need to stop and came clean with my wife who is being totally supportive. I...

Yesterday I picked up a 20 day supply of oxycontin 30 mg. It was a 20 day script. At 2 a day my px was for 60. I was HORRIFIED when the pharmacist billed me for 325.00, including my insurance discount. They claimed there is not a generic oxycontin. Oxycodone 30 mg was $15 for 60...so needless to say I was shocked!!! Is there an equivalent slow release to replace 30 mg of oxycontin? There has got to be something. I got into a bit of a habit with taking too many 30 oxycodone, which is why I was put on a slow release. Any advice out there? The pharmaceutical companies are gouging us beyond belief, and I've got a medical condition due to an accident where I need these pills, at least for another 2 months or so. The $325.00 price has me in a state of high anxiety however. Is hydromorphin...
