is taking 2 10mg oxycontin tabs the same as taking 1 20mg oxycontin? ## Yes, it would essentially be the same, though there may be some slight variations, just due to there being two separate pills, so the release rate could be slightly different. Have you been advised to take 2 10mg instead of one of the other? ## I have been taking 1 oxycontin 20 mg twice a day every 12 hrs for over 5 yrs. Had a TKR 8/11/15. Sent home with Norco then hydro codone acetaminophen 10-325. Worked a few days. Got really bad shin pain can't stand up. Then Dr gave me OxyContin 10. Time realease. Suppose take 1 tablet every 12 hours. Took 2 doses so far. At 5:00 pm then 5 am. Not working. Any suggestions ## Hello, Cindy! How are you? It may not be a strong enough dose to alleviate your pain. Have you informed your doctor? He may need to raise your dosage. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

There is no roxicontin its roxicodone 5, 10,15 and 30mg. Then they have oxyir, oxycodone. Those are instant release! ## You are correct, the actual name of the medication is Oxycontin and it contains a time released formulation of Oxycodone. Thus, it has the same active ingredient as the others you've mentioned, but it is taken every 12 hours. Learn more Oxycontin details here. Are there any questions or comments?

Does it hurt the op 40's if they are cut in half? I don't like to take the whole pill at once. ## Since these are time released tablets, it isn't advisable that you cut them in half, because even with the new formulation, it could still result in the Oxycodone being released faster, so you get too much in your body, at once. There are lower dosages available, have you tried asking your doctor about just prescribing a lower one? ## That's not correct you can cut them ## Yeah you can. I seriously just took a 30mg op cut in half and it felt like 5 or six of my 10 mg (pink) oxycodone. I believe my tolerance is pretty high and my doctor has me on 8 pink 10's a day. So to answer your question you'd be fine taking half a 40. Don't listen to all the conservatives. Li...

Is oxycontin and Percocet the same thing except without the tylenol ## Yeah. It's usually extended release instead of the percocet, which is immediate release. Not all the time but that's what I've seen. ## Hello, Katy! How are you? No, Raine, you are correct, both contain Oxycodone, but Percocet also contains Acetaminophen/Tylenol and Oxycontin just contains Oxycodone in a 12 hour time released formulation. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Why do so many people want to abuse OxyContin leaving those of us who actually prescribed it for pain on the edge? ## I KNOW ITS SO UNFAIR PEOPLE THAT ABUSE OXYCONTIN MAKE IT HARD FOR PEOPLE THAT HONESTLY NEED IT FOR CHRONIC PAIN. I HAVE TAKEN 4 80MG OXYS FOR 10 YEARS AND MY DOC LOST HIS LICENSE & I NEED DOCTOR WILLING 2 TREAT MY PAIN WITH IT IN MONTGOMERY OR BIRMINGHAM AREA. ## Sorry to point this out but stefanie, your approach to pain management is largely a reason for this. I am sure you are a chronic pain sufferer but the problem is that now you are looking for a doctor to specifically prescribe this drug to you - you came into this thread and instead of answering Thomas' question you posted how you are looking for a doctor for this drug. Bought some gold metallic oxyckntin 40mg has anyone seen these??? R they real or fake bc I know the ones I seen r a yellowish color and not a metallic gold.... ## Hi Anna, Just wanted to let you know that this particular Oxycontin 40mg tablet is supposed to be yellow in color (as depicted in a number of different drug descriptions). The problem with going off some photographs on the internet is that certain displays or lighting can sometimes make them seem like their metallic or off by a few shades in tone. For verification you can always look up the National Drug Code, which would be 59011-0105 for this particular tablet. Were you getting these from a legitimate pharmacy?

which is stronger--10 mg of Percocet or 15 mg of oxycontin? Which is more addictive? ## Hello, CS! How are you? They both contain the same narcotic, which is Oxycodone. Thus, technically the 15mg Oxycontin is stronger, but it is time released and doesn't work all at once, like the Percocet. Percocet also contains Acetaminophen with the Oxycodone, which helps it work better for some people. And thus, that means that neither is more of less addictive. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

White pill op on one side and a 10 on the other ## Hello, Andy! How are you? Yes, that does match the description of a 10mg Oxycontin tablet, which contains Oxycodone in a time released formulation. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Do you have any questions or concerns?

I was taking 4 80 mg oxys daily my doc put me on 2 100 mg teva morphines will it help the same and will i go through withdraw thank you ## There may be some issues here, because the Oxycodone is actually 1 and a half time stronger than the Morphine, so you'd need 120mgs of Morphine to equal each 80mg dose you were taking of the Oxycodone. Learn more Oxycodone details here. Learn more Morphine details here. Why did he change your medication? ## Pain Meds 101: For chronic pain management...the best result is almost always a long acting med (OxyCONTIN (currently no generic so $$$), Morphine Sulfate E/R extended release, Opana (not my particular fave), Fentanyl Patches and Exalgo). Only the latter are taken 1x per day..the others are SUPPOSED to be 12 hr meds to be taken 2x a day but mo...

Can anyone help me understand these OPs? The whole pill is plastic, right? I mean, unlike MS Contins where the coating is time released. So my question is-If the whole thing is a solid time release pill, why can’t I cut it in half? I am not trying to abuse it. My doctor made me switch from 5mg instant relase oxycodone to 10 mg oxycontin and it’s way too strong. It makes me feel sick and way too medicated to drive. I am taking these so I can have a life, not another car accident. So I would like to reduce the dose but it says not to cut them & I am not sure that is applicable to the plastic pills. ## According to medical literature, "extended/time-release" pills are not intended to be cut in half because it can release the full contents of the pill all at once (ri...
