I am currently on 4 30mg oxycodone ir a day and 2 2mg dillaudid a day. I've had 2 major surgeries and I'm I'm only 24 and day in day out in extreme constant pain. My question is would switching to OxyContin the new formula be as effective? Does it have the same euphoria or is it less effective than what I'm on? If anybody can help me out with that I would appreciate it. ## One thing I can say right off the bat is that Oxycontin is an extended release formula of Oxycodone. Some people say that it's not quite as potent as its immediate-release counterpart, but offers much longer relief in return. I do think though, that you'd have be your own best judge when it comes to that, since everyone is different. The thread linked below seems to have good information compar...

I have been taking Oxycontin60mg but I am now in my coverage donut and can not afford my prescription. I had taken Oxycodone once before and it just didn't work as well. Was that phycological or is there a difference in the 2 medications. Run out of this months prescription in 3 days. Help. ## oxycontin = time released oxycodone. same drug. the time release will distribute the medication over a period of time, and without it the entire dose will be administered at once. ## Okay, I remove the incorrect information, because Pharma Guy is absolutely correct. They are the same medication, Oxycodone is the active ingredient in Oxycontin, the only operative factor is that it is in a controlled release formulation. So, whether or not the Oxycodone you get will work the same for you will al...

This month I have been getting the pain relief from my Oxycontin as before. I am now informed that they hanged the formula from OC to OP and that the OP do not contain Narcan. What am I supposed to do when I am no longer getting the relief I had before. I don't want to have to go to the higher dose just to get the same relief. I had to fight the insurance company for what I was getting before. ## That is correct, the new Oxycontin OP does not contain Narcan, however, if someone tries to misuse the medication, it does turn into a gummy substance that retains its time released properties. This formulation change has resulted in many complaints that it does not work as well as the old formulation and causes off side effects. We have had many posts regarding this, for the past several m...

Hello im currently taking oxycodone 30 mg i was taking 15 mg it seems like the 15s worked much better . I wonder why . anyone else havs this happen or have an explanation.please help ## Hello, D Cobb! How are you? I'm sorry that they aren't working well for you. Are they both regular release tablets? The reason I'm asking is because if the 15mg was regular release and the 30mg ones are time released Oxycontin tablets, then that may explain the issue. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Such a problem could also occur if anything else has changed…. do you take the new ones at the same intervals you took the 15mg ones? How many times a day ...

I take 160mill of oxycotin 2 times a day and roxi 30 mill every 3 hours for breakthrough pain. What is the difference in the meds? Also I have the generic oxycontin, 80 mill is it different than the brand name? I ask because they dont seem to effect me like the oxys I recived in the hosbital. The generic pill is lite green and oval is this the same ? ## Does the so called generic oxycontin say oc on one side and 80 on the other? The name brand are lite green with those letters and numbers. The generic form should work just the same. Perhaps you are just working up a tolerance to them. Roxi's are oxycodone just like the oxycontin is; however, the oxcycontin are time-released over an 8 or 12 hour period, (depending on what you are on.) The roxicet is the same as percocet. I dont know ...

It's that time my pain manag. And I are getting togeather to change my meds I am currently on oxycodone 20mg 5 times a day. I was wondering about demoral. Thoughts I have cronic pain in my ankle and have have 5 surgeries to try to fix it with nonluck. Also what other long and short act meds should I look up that are stronger than what I am currently taking ## Hello, Mtothej! How are you? I'm very sorry that you're in pain. Demerol isn't actually a good choice, because it's much weaker than Oxycodone. For each 20mgs you take of Oxycodone, you'd have to take 300mgs of Demerol to be equivalent. There are higher doses of Oxycodone available, including the time released Oxycontin that's taken every 12 hours. There are also patches available that contain Fentanyl, ...

which is stronger--10 mg of Percocet or 15 mg of oxycontin? Which is more addictive? ## Hello, CS! How are you? They both contain the same narcotic, which is Oxycodone. Thus, technically the 15mg Oxycontin is stronger, but it is time released and doesn't work all at once, like the Percocet. Percocet also contains Acetaminophen with the Oxycodone, which helps it work better for some people. And thus, that means that neither is more of less addictive. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

I was taking 4 80 mg oxys daily my doc put me on 2 100 mg teva morphines will it help the same and will i go through withdraw thank you ## There may be some issues here, because the Oxycodone is actually 1 and a half time stronger than the Morphine, so you'd need 120mgs of Morphine to equal each 80mg dose you were taking of the Oxycodone. Learn more Oxycodone details here. Learn more Morphine details here. Why did he change your medication? ## Pain Meds 101: For chronic pain management...the best result is almost always a long acting med (OxyCONTIN (currently no generic so $$$), Morphine Sulfate E/R extended release, Opana (not my particular fave), Fentanyl Patches and Exalgo). Only the latter are taken 1x per day..the others are SUPPOSED to be 12 hr meds to be taken 2x a day but mo...

Oxycontin 80 or 110mg is better than oxa forte or it's the same. ## Hello, Karl! How are you? Oxa Forte contains Diclofenac with Codeine, so it is actually much weaker than the Oxycodone in the Oxycontin. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

I was taken off of Dilaudid 2Mg every 3 hrs to oxycontin 5 Mg every 6 hrs. I was in pain and I never experienced withdrawals, but I did this time. I called the Dr. right away. The Phar. gave my wonderful PM alot of crap, but I finally got back.on the Dilaudid in two days. ## Hello, Linda! How are you doing? I'm sorry about the problem that you had. That wasn't a proper conversion, it would take 5.33mgs of Oxycodone to be equivalent to each 2mgs of the Dilaudid you were taking. Thus, you'd need 40mgs of spread throughout the day to provide the same analgesic effect and prevent withdrawals. I'm glad you were able to get back on the one that works for you. The FDA lists these medications as being narcotic analgesics, so they have the potential to be habit forming and may ca...

I was taking OxyContin 80 mg twice a day it is now no longer on my formulary the doctor switched from oxy to morphine extended release morphine extended release is the dark blue oblong pill generic version . This morphine generic does not work nearly as good as the oxy.. Is there other generics that are better than the current one that I'm taking? ## Hello, Donald! How are you? I'm very sorry that you're in pain. What are the markings on the Morphine tablet that you're taking? Do you know what the dosage is? Morphine is weaker than Oxycodone, so you'd actually need take 120mgs of it to be equivalent to each 80mgs of Oxycontin that you were taking. Thus, I'm concerned that you may not be on the correct dose. The FDA classifies this as a narcotic analgesic, so it h...

been on oxycontin for 4 years and is not working as well since they switched formula ## There have been many complaints about this. Opana contains the active ingredient Oxymorphone and it is actually stronger than Oxycodone, requiring just half the dose. So, if you were taking 80mgs of Oxycontin, you would need just 40mgs of Opana. Since it is a narcotic, the side effect profile is basically the same: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and constipation. Can I take 60 mg morphine sulf ER 4 hrs after taking 30 OxyContin ER? I've never taken morphine, been on oxy's long time, but dr just took me of oxy &'put me on morphine. So I was taking 30 mg OxyContin ER 3x day. He switched me to morphine sulf 60 mg 2x day. I told him myths my pain has increased tremendously & I needed increase. He decided switch. It seemed like it will be lower dose pain meds, agree? ## To be equivalent to the daily amount of Oxycodone you were taking, you'd need 135mgs of Morphine, Oxycodone is one and a half times stronger than Morphine. As to when to take it, you should likely take the first dose of it, when you'd normally take your next dose of Oxycodone, but it would be best to double check with your doctor or pharmacist to be sure. I was taking 4 80 mg oxys daily my doc put me on 2 100 mg teva morphines will it help the same and will i go through withdraw thank you ## The equivalent dose would actually be 120mgs of Morphine to equal each 80mg Oxycodone that you were taking, so you've actually been put on a lower dosage. Thus, it may not handle your pain as well as the Oxycodone did and yes, you may experience some withdrawal. Learn more Morphine details here. Have you started taking them yet? WHICH WOULD WORK THE BEST SEVERE CONTINOUS BACK/NECK PAIN. I HAVE SUFFERED PAIN FOR MANY YRS FROM THE RESULTS OF A BROKEN NECK, DUE TO AN AUTO ACCIDENT. I DONT LIKE THE IDEA OF BEING "HIGH" OR ANYTHING, BUT NEED MEDS TO HELP TAKE THE SO CALLED EDGE OFF MY PAIN. ## For continuous intense pain, the time released formulations are usually used, because they can provide much longer pain relief. Though for pain management, many people end up using both, an immediate release to get faster relief, while waiting for the time released ones to kick in. The time released Oxycodone, which is available under the name brand Oxycontin, slowly releases the narcotic medication over a 12 hour time period. Since it's not all released at once, this also helps avoid the euphoric, high feeling for...

I have been taking 40mg oxycontin 3x a day. My insurance won't cover it any more. My Doc prescribed ms contin 30mg 2 x a day. will it work? ## Oxycontin contains the active ingredient Oxycodone. It is stronger than the MS Contin which contains the active ingredent Morphine. Both are narcotic pain relievers. That said, your doctor has actually prescribed you a lower dose, to be taken less frequently than what you were taking of the Oxycontin. However, the only way to see if it will help you is for you to try it. Some medications are effective for certain people, some are not. If this dosage does not handle your pain, make sure to contact your doctor right away and let them know. They may need to prescribe one that is slightly higher or to be taken more frequently. You may still exper...
