Oxy Prescribe

Hello, I just found this forum. First off... I live in eastern kentucky and am wondering if anyone could give me some advice. My doctor just suddenly passed away and has left all of his patients with no way to get their prescriptions. It was a private practice with no other doctors working with him, just a NP to assist. I've been on the same medication ... same dose same amount for years with no issues as far as drug panels or anything. I've undergone multiple procedures and surgeries as well. I am a legit chronic pain patient with multiple health problems and I need a new doctor. I went to 1 doctor whose PA saw me, he didn't assess me, refused my medical records, cut my medication dosage to way less than even half of what Ive been on for years. He told me the doctor had alr...

severe back pain and fractured wrist ## I'm sorry, but we have no way of knowing what any doctor will, or will not prescribe. You also may run into a problem if you are trying to get them to prescribe a specific medication. Most doctors will be reluctant to do so, because when someone asks for a specific medication, especially a controlled substance, they consider it to be drug seeking behavior. Have you considered using pain management?

I have been taking oxycontin for approximately 5 years. I recently changed Dr's and he doesn't dispense it. I'm in the Albany/Rensselaer New York area. Is anyone aware of any physicians that do ## Are you seeing just a general practitioner? If so, that most likely explains the problem. There have been a lot of changes going on throughout the East coast and into the mid-west, due to rampant over-prescribing and drug abuse. Thus, the FDA and DEA are trying to make it so that general practitioners and surgeons can no longer prescribe such medications for long-term use. Anyone that requires them for ongoing management of chronic pain is supposed to be referred to a pain management specialist for treatment, with only very specific and rare exceptions. Have you tried pain manageme...

I have chronic neck and shoulder pain and have been getting 30 mg oxycodone outside of the doctor. my friend moved out of state. how can i get a doctor to prescribe them to me? please help running out ## Hello, Nickelboy! How are you? Well, you're not going to be able to go to a doctor and just ask them to prescribe Oxycodone. It is a controlled substance and doctors are taught to view that as being drug seeking behavior, so they'll usually refuse to prescribe anything. You'll need to see a doctor, get a diagnosis and assessment, then discuss your treatment options. Due to the new regulations that were put in place last year, if you require such a medication on a long-term ongoing basis, you'll need to see a pain management specialist. Do you currently have a PCP that co...

...if the acetaminophen in Percocet enhances its action? I just had surgery for bone spurs and was given oxy, 5mgs. For some reason I thought that oxy would be stronger--I think I heard it somewhere--but now that just seems wrong. For that matter, why prescribe Percocet, given the liver implications, and instead just give people oxy and tell them they may carefully and occasionally supplement it with NSAIDS? ## Hello, Tristan! How are you? Yes, the Acetaminophen potentiates the action of the Oxycodone, for some people. It doesn't work for everyone. Oxycodone by itself works better for some people and, if you look at the FDA information on it, you'll see that it is also available in higher doses that are in different formations, including a time released one for better pain contr...

need a doctor who prescribes oxycodone ## I'm sorry, but there is no central listing of doctors that will prescribe any given medication. And if you need such medications for long-term treatment of chronic pain, you'll most likely have to see a pain management specialist due to the new restrictions that have been put in place. There have been many concerns raised about improper prescribing and over prescribing, so there are new regulations put in place regarding what general practitioners and surgeon can prescribe, how much and for how long they can prescribe it. You can learn more Oxycodone details here. Have you tried pain management yet? Does anyone know of a doctor they can recommend in the area?

need specifics on docs who prescribe oxycontin in Cleveland, oh area ## There are no listings of doctors according to what they will or will not prescribe that can be searched for you. Technically, any doctor can prescribe it, but due to the new regulations that were put in place last year, if you require it on a long-term ongoing basis for the management of chronic pain, you'll need to see a pain management specialist. Do you currently have a PCP that you see regularly? If so, then the easiest thing to do would be to ask them to refer you to someone. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. ## Most do but few do it illegally and also won't prescribe it...

I was in a car accident and am in a lot of pain but due to my age the doctors I have seen think I'm just trying to get pain pills for fun and that's not the case any ideas on doctors in st Louis area who easily write pain scripts ## Hey john doe, Unfortunately, no one can really know ahead of time what a doctor is or is not willing to prescribe, as that is based on the doctor's discretion and not on someone else's previous appointment (especially since many doctor's are now worried about losing their licensing for prescribing too many narcotics). Some advice I can give you is to not specifically ask for any 'specific medication' when you see a new doctor. Just make sure to transfer or take a copy of all your medical records with you. Then, the best approach i...

Dr in west suburbs of Chicago that prescibe pain meds I have MRI and blue cross ## Greetings; I'm 65, had back surgery (laminectomy) due to disc ruptures at L4 & L5S1 when I was in my early 30's, was allright for a while yet never FULLY allright. With work (waiter carrying heavy trays) for more than 30 years, several motorcross accidents (loved the old, reliable Yamaha 250's!!!), scoliosis, degenerative dis disease, disc protrusions at L4-L5 (again!!) accompanied by hypertrophic artropathy producing stenosis at same; osteophytosis is seen diffusely (all this from last MRI dated 02/14) I've gotten proggressively worse. Have tried EVERYTHING except for walking on my hands 24/7 to relieve the pressure, and there is always more surgery which I WILL NOT DO!! I'm older...

Surely there is a physician that understands Pain "Management" in the area. It is not just providing scripts, U/A's and treating patients like they are criminals. I have been a chronic pain patient off and on for over 20 years. I have voluntarily quit using opiates on several occasions. I remained opiate free each time until the pain really started interfering with the quality of life. I made it over 2 years on 1 occasion. I would like to find a physician that practices true pain management. I am 66 and have little, if any, respect for the fresh-faced PA's who sit behind their desks and threaten to kick you out because a pill count is 2 or 3 short. Sorry, I was in excruciating pain. It's not like I am overdosing especially since their policy is 10mg is all they write...

I Broke my arm on December 4th and was prescribed oxycodone. I only take it at night so I can sleep and deal with the pain during the day so I don't run out before the pain stops. I went to a clinic that is covered by my Low income insurance plan but the doctor refused to reissue my prescription. I don't use drugs and don't have an addictive personality. I'm not trying to make myself feel high. I'm still covered with bruises and my arm hurts really badly. I just want another prescription. ## Hello, Erika! How are you doing? I'm sorry that you're in pain and miserable.
