There are no proprietary guidelines in the pharmaceutical industry that states all pills with the same ingredient must be the same color, size and/or shape. These are entirely up to the whit and whim of the manufacturer. I changed pharmacies the other day and received what is supposed to be Mallinckrodt 30mg oxy and 60mg morphine from Mallinckrodt. Both scripts the pills have a clean score mark on one side and 30 above the line and the infamous M in a box on the other. The oxy is white with a slight blue hue to it very, very light. The morphine same instead is has a 60 on the one side And M on the other. They are yellowish. Both scripts have pills missing stamps and are either rubbed off or something and the outer edge it looks like 2 pills smashed together. The oxy has a lot of powder in the bottom of the bottle and I dissolved one in water and it left about 1-10th of the pill powder behind. The morphine is just plain bad looking. My doctor changed my meds from Morphine 80 mgs tid to 50 mgs oxycodone tid along with liquid 5 mgs as required. Why would she do this? I had lymphoma. ## I am sorry, but only your doctor can answer that question. However, I can tell you that Oxycodone is stronger than Morphine, so they may have thought it would help you more than the Morphine. Moved to LaGrange GA from Hawaii a few months ago. Have been on 3-100mg morphine and 4_30mg oxycodone for 10+ years with great quality of life and no problems. Emory PCP wrote prescriptions for the last 4 months but every referral was turned down except one now inPhenix City, AL. Need a DR on medicaid(nothing like Hawaii's) or self-pay. My daughter had surgery. They put her on 15 mg morphine ER. One tablet every 12 hours. Within five hours she's in pain. Pain level reaches an eight on a scale of 1 to 10. Into hour eight. Called the doctor because I only have three more morphine pills left. They gave her oxycodone mg. take 1-2 pills every 6 hrs. My question is, she has 5/325 percocets from another surgery. I find it ridiculous that sooo many people are messing around with schedule II narcotics yet have no clue to the potency, side effects, drug interactions, etc.. are you people not adults? Oxy is indeed a good 1.5% stronger than morphine and not at all subtle like morphine.. Most doses of Oxy that are between 15-30 mg are IR's not ER (extended release like most morphine)... Can I take 60 mg morphine sulf ER 4 hrs after taking 30 OxyContin ER? I've never taken morphine, been on oxy's long time, but dr just took me of oxy &'put me on morphine. So I was taking 30 mg OxyContin ER 3x day. He switched me to morphine sulf 60 mg 2x day. I told him myths my pain has increased tremendously & I needed increase. He decided switch. My dr knows that I need three disk replacement but he keeps giving me Norco 10. I need something stronger and to them is like I can't give you anything stronger. I was on 5 30mg of oxycodone ir after doing some reading after you have more than 120mg in your system the rest is not helping you it's just loading your system up and your asking for long term problems my dr. Has since put me on 3 30mg oxycodone and one 30mg morphine extended release for nighttime and that seems to be the magic for me, it helps the hard pain during the day and at night lets your system calm down when I'm sleeping. ## even though oxycodone is 1.5 x stronger than morphine, if you take an equivalent dose of mophine sulfate (90 m. vs. 60 oxy), will you still develop the same tolerance/addiction/dependency from the morphine as from the oxycodone? ## Great Gw! I have just been prescribed Oxycontin along with Morphine sulfate immediate release (80 mg of oxy, 1 tab 2x a day, 30 mg of morphine ir) for severe nerve damage to my left leg. I have started to become nauseated, is this due to the combo of both? I take them at separate times a day as prescribed. I have been on msir for 1 1/2 years, but a weaker dose. ## It is actually more than likely due to the higher dose of the Morphine. Unfortunately, while also working so well on the pain receptors of the brain, morphine also acts on the receptors that trigger nausea and vomiting. I went through the same thing myself when I switched from Oxycontin to MS Contin. It will take a few weeks, but it will eventually wear off. However, you can expect to experience this anytime you alter your dosage again....
