Methadone will block any other narcotic if you are taking it for addiction, if you are taking it for pain, you are likely taking a lot smaller dose, so the methadone won't block other opiates unless you take them together, and that is just a guess on my part. When I started Methadone Maintenance, it took a long time to find my blocking dose, so if you are on it for addiction, it takes time, keep working on it with your doctor at the clinic,. I need a new pain Dr in Hampton Roads, Virginia. I was on 12th of Methadone a day and oxy for breakthrough pain. I am a 58 year old male with debilitating back pain& have broken every bone in my upper body. Due to a motorcycle accident. My current PCWORLD is giving me 60 MG Methadone & 4G oxy a day it is simply not enough for my pain level.

I am new to the methadone and was wondering why my doctor would put me on methadone when he knew I had been addicted to Oxycontin before and had to go into the hospital for the withdrawals. They put me on the liquid methadone to get me off of the Oxycontin. How bad is it going to be to get off of the methadone if that time ever comes? Been on Methadone for many years via a pain clinic. I am 66. I take 50 mg. daily. and was stable and reasonably pain free until this year. I fell and broke 5 ribs on two different occasions and a slight fractured hip and torn muscles on a third fall. These falls happened while training protection dogs.For about 8-9 months I was taking about 60 mgs. of oxycodone on top of the methadone with no effect on pain - ouch!. Now, the pain is gone from the falls but I am in withdrawal and feel very sick - I think. It is actually wanted by the users from what I have heard. Please be careful everyone. Need to talk to someone very bad. I've been taking methadone for 20 years, in May I started winging myself down. I got to 5 to 10 milligrams then ran out so I started taking 5 milligram oxycodone. I have a few 2 milligram and 8 milligram suboxone. When can I take them? Living in Mountain Home, Arkansas is there any Doctor I can go to that prescribes? My father was a chronic pain patient with a spinal tumor who was moved off of Oxycontin and Dilaudid to methadone. Unfortunately, after a long, log battle, he became completely paralyzed and the tumor was in the process of killing him. He asked to be terminally sedated. The doctors put him on a morphine drip, but even after they quadrupled his dose, he was still in pain and awake. Eventually, they got to 4000mg a DAY of IV morphine, and it was ineffective. We did our research, and it showed there is NO conversion rate for methadone to morphine equivalents as there is with every other opioid. In other words, just to duplicate the 30-40mg a day of morphine he was taking would have required anywhere from 240-3000mgs of morphine - forget actually sedating him. My husband has taken subs on his own in the past and quit oxycodone and did fine. this time around he was taking about 40mg methadone a day. He waited about 50 hrs before starting the bupe. He at first took a quarter and then a half and couldnt really tell a difference so we figured since it wasnt worse he must not be getting perciptated withdrawals. So this evening he has been feeling really awful but it isnt helping him to take bupe .He has done about 2 throughout the day. There are only 5 and 10 mg pills... And they are the worst drug ever invented. You say you have 2 more days to go to see your Dr. Well, as you know, methadone is a long acting medication. You would be fine the first day, especially taking 100mgs. Without it, you might not feel your best, but won't withdraw. But the second day you may start to get sick. You could try to take it for the second day. Everyone is different. I've been on methadone 15yrs. I need to get off. I'm in pain management for a back injury and the methadone is blocking my percocet. How can I get off methadone? ## I am on both Methadone and oxycodone for pain. As long as you take your oxycodone about 45 minutes before your dose of Methadone and eat about a half an hour after after you take your Methadone, your medication will work as it is supposed to. Follow the same pattern if you take several doses of both medications a day, like I do. Just always make sure you take the oxycodone first, because it sets the tone for the day. I alternate between both and it works amazing. Good luck.

ive been working to reduce my daily methadone dosage for a year now, as I've been on maintenance. I'm down from 55 mg daily to only 15mg at this point and soon enough will be free of its clutches. I've been maintaining a clean lifestyle and I don't need a lecture on addiction. My question is--can Belviq be taken with Methadone? My doctor says it completely negates any opiate based or nRcotic pain medications in the brain. Last thing I need is to be thrown into sudden horrible withdrawals.
