For several years now I have had occasional chest pain, making it hard to breathe when walking. What are the treatments, life expectancy and other pertinent details that can help me overcome pleural mesothelioma? ## Hi nick, very sorry to hear about your diagnosis. May I ask whether you had exposure to asbestos in the past? While I can't give many specifics without a confidential medical history in hand, I am sad to say that the outlook for Pleural Mesothelioma is generally not great. Are you in an early or late stage? Your doctors may recommend a combination of surgery / radiation / chemo, depending on how far it has progressed. The 5 year survival rate is between 5 to 10 percent. [1] These are just statistics. There are always exceptions. There may also be alternative treatments. ...

When it comes to anxiety, the truth is that coping mechanisms (medically & behaviorally) are different for everyone. There are some who wholeheartedly feel that anxiety meds are not the answer, and while they may relish in other forms of distraction, we all share common a desire to make ourselves feel better in the moment through whatever means we respectfully deem necessary. Individual rights to one's perceived sense of adequate treatment should not be infringed upon by another's skewed perception of what only works best for his or herself. So in a rather complex and controversial outlook to the way anxiety should be treated, it seems that doctors and psychiatrists alike have taken a timid stance to prescribing benzo's - But is it really ethical and fair to the well-bei...

I'm a 74 yr old male and have gained 20lbs on prednisone for PMR and my face and stomach are bloated. Dr started me on 25mg, then after 6 wks and blood wk, reduced me down to 12 1/2 mg and then symptoms returned. I went to 12mg and now 10mg. and I'm ok so far. What is the outlook for people like me on prednisone with poly myalgia rheumatica? ## Hello, Rip! How are you? The side effects you've described are common with long-term use of steroids and won't likely go away, as long as you are taking it. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may include nausea, dizziness, fluid retention, acne, nervousness and insomnia. Unfortunately, there aren't many other treatment options for this condition and the Prednisone is usually taken for a year or more. Have you had any im...

Our daughter has advanced stage IV double lung cancer which has metastasized all throughout her body. She is now on IV dilaudid for her severe pain. Works very well. What, as your opinion, is her outlook? Would like to know as much as we can about this medication (including its side effects). Thank you. ## Dilaudid is a potent opiate narcotic that is used to treat severe pain. The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. Not being a doctor, I really can't speak as to her outlook, cancer is much more complicated to treat and eradicate, once it has metastasized. Regarding the medication, I can tell you that studies have shown that providing such a patient with proper doses to...

I found one the same! Thanks ## These pills that you found are "E" (Molly) pills. In case you dont know what they are or what they do, these are the following common effects: increased energy, hot/cold temperature, feelings of a drunkenness to where things seem wavy and not straight, positive feelings and outlooks, possible outbursts of random laughter, constant talking, and lack of sleep. I am an active 41 yr old male who has been on coumadin for 9 years and now believe it lowers my mood and confidence. I originally believed my changes in mood and confidence were associated with my open heart surgery to replace my aortic valve and the life changes and trauma one would expect after such an event at 32 yrs old. But recently i was allowed to come off coumadin for a little over a week to have a back surgery. My INR was normal after 3 days giving me 5 days with my normal blood again. My confidence about the surgery, myself and outlook on life and my business changed enough for me to notice reminding me of how i felt before open heart surgery. Solid is the word i would use. The morning after returning to take coumadin again, a couple days after back surgery, i woke up with a f...
