My husband was prescribed Tramadol for back pain to stop the spasm, but we also noticed they stopped the persistent cough he had had for weeks, can he get something similar that would work as well. ## It would require a prescription, just like the Tramadol, but there are medications used for cough that contain Codeine or Hydrocodone. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

Is It a narcotic? How safe is it to take for long period?Does it interfere with any other drug taken? I take it for fibromialgia and rheumathoid arthritis. ## No, Tramadol is not classified as a narcotic, though the FDA has changed their minds on this, several times. Currently, it is classified as a centrally acting analgesic, because it does not control pain as well as a narcotic, but it can cause similar side effects, such as: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and dry mouth. It can react with some other medications, however, there are far too many for me to list. Can you post back with the name of any other drugs you are concerned about? I will gladly check the interactions for you.

I too have increased energy and cheerfulness with a single 50 mg Tramadol. When I don't take it for a day I am very lethargic and ache. I try not to take it more than a few days in a row. The doctor is surprised at the side effects. Thank you to those who shared a similar experience. I had been wondering if this was my imagination. I hope to stay off it several days to see if my usual energy returns as it did eventually the last time I didn't take it for several days. It's a great mild pain reliever, but the mood alteration concerns me. ## Hi, Suellen! How are you? The classification for Tramadol has changed several times over the years, right now it is once again classified as an opioid and they can cause increased energy and euphoria in some people that take them. That...

I was given this drug in Mexico after a serious accident. What is the difference in this drug and ordinary Tramadol? My physician in the states has prescribed regular Tramadol for pain of arthritis and fibromyalgia. ## The medication from Mexico contained both Ketorolac and Tramadol. Ketorolac is a potent nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory, used to treat pain, fever and swelling. Tramadol is a relatively mild opiate narcotic that is just used to treat pain. Putting an NSAID, with the Narcotic tends to enhance the analgesic effects. As similar medication that is available in the U.S. would be Ultracet, which is also available as a generic, it couples the Tramadol with Acetaminophen. Is there anything else I can help with? ## My back is killing me can I I take diabetic pills and I take high b...

HI, I take the Mylan generic of diazepam, and it seems to be significantly less effective than another generic that I was on but I can't remember the name. I'd like to have your thoughts as to whose generic diazepam comes closest to brand Valium. Thanks! ## Hi zuess, I've located an oblong yellow pill with the imprint 537 on one side and nothing on the other side. This pill contains (37.5 mg) of Tramadol + (325 mg) of Acetaminophen. Manufacturer: Caraco Pharmaceutical Laboratories National Code (NDC): 57664-0537 Is this the pill you are inquiring about in your title? In regards to finding a generic brand of Diazepam which works similar to brand name Valium, you are not the only one who has had issues with Mylan. My research leads me to believe that Watson, Qualitest, and Tev...

What is the difference? ## tramacet relieves the pain percocet relieves the pain AND makes you high (stay away if you can, highly addictive) ## The Tramacet combines the Tramadol with Acetaminophen, which can potentiate the action of some other drugs. Learn more Tramacet details here. Tramadol has shown the potential to be habit forming and it may cause side effects such as nausea, dizziness, constipation and headache. Are there any other questions or comments? Is there anything else I can help with? ## If I am intolerant of Tramacet, am I likely to be intolerant of Tramadol too? I have constant severe nerve pain in my neck from old whiplash injuries. I'm told Lyrica is good but costs a bomb. Tramadol helped my mom with a similar problem. But Tramacet makes me totally nauseous. ## Y...

What are the differences between Trazodone and Tramadol? Are they the same thing? Do they have similar uses? ## No, they are not the same. Trazodone is an antidepressant that is also used to treat anxiety, and some severe forms of anxiety. (NDC code 0179-1118) The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and weight changes. [1] Ref: MedlinePlus However, Tramadol is an opioid that is used to relieve pain. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, and constipation. It also carries the risk of being habit forming. (NDC code 0093-0058) [2] Ref: MedlinePlus Hope this helps! ## Trazodone is an older anti-depressant. Considered an SARI. It is most widely prescribed nowadays as a non-benzo s...

## is Tremadol hcl/apap an opiod angenstic? ## No, Tramadol with Acetaminophen, the active ingredients in Ultracet is not an opiate narcotic, though it is derived from one and at one point it was classified as one. Learn more Ultracet details here. The classification was changed to place it under general centrally acting analgesics, when it was discovered that while it has the potential to he habit forming and can cause side effects similar to opiates, it doesn't alleviate pain as well as they do. This was actually the opposite of the desired effect, when this compound was being research and created they want to keep the potency of opiates for pain relief, but remove the negative side effects and addiction potential, so this one did a total flip. Are there any other questions? Is th...

I found a pill when moving house, its a round, white, almost chalky pill with T1 on one side and what looks to be a symbol very similar to the libra star sign on the other side (2 parallel lines, one with a semi-circle coming out of one of the lines). Can anyone tell me what it is? ## Hi Aaron, I have identified a small round yellow pill with the imprint T1 as Levonest; which contains the active ingredients ethinyl estradiol (0.03 mg) + levonorgestrel (0.05 mg). You may have one of the placebo (sugar pills), which are usually the white pills in a pack of birth control. Manufacturer: Novast Laboratories, Ltd. This pill is an extended cycle combined oral contraceptive pill. These particular types of birth control are COCPs packaged to reduce or eliminate the withdrawal bleeding that occur...

Hello. I have searched the web and can't seem to find a problem like mine while coming off tramadol. I have horrible stomach burning and pain that extends down both sides of my rib cage. It happened once before when I was coming off tramadol and you think I would have learned to stay away from this poison. Has anyone else had pain and terrible burning down both sides of their rib cage when coming off tramadol? This is day 2 for me. I am hoping it goes away soon ## I think it's safe to say that Tramadol withdrawal symptoms can be quite similar to the side effects of those who are still taking the drug. According to the mayo clinic, severe abdominal or stomach pain is reported to be a normal, but serious side effect of Tramadol (that should be reported to your doctor). I don't...

Two bottom teeth extracted towards the back ## Hi Tee, From what I could gather, there aren't any drug interactions listed between Ibuprofen and Tramadol. So as far as mixing the two is concerned, both medications are generally regarded as safe to use together. But if you're ever looking for an alternative to ibuprofen, there's also a similar brand I know of called Ultracet that contains both Tramadol and Acetaminophen. Sometimes you can only take so much of a certain medication, where as having a backup option might come in handy if you can get your doctor to prescribe it. I hope this helps! Was there anything else specifically that you had a question about?

My new doctor gave me 3 weeks to get off Zopiclone now she wants me off Tramadol. How long would this take? Is there something I can take that is similar but not addictive? She also wants me off Methocarbamol 1,500 mg every 4 hours. I am scared stiff to come off all of these meds so quickly. Thank you ## Hello, Gina! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem you're having. How long have you been taking the Tramadol and how soon does she want you to stop it? The FDA does classifies it as an opioid, so it can be habit forming, which means a slow taper is usually best to prevent the worst of the possible withdrawal symptoms. They are listed as typically including nausea, dizziness, fever, chills, rebound pain and diarrhea. Unfortunately, there's really nothing similar that doesn...

My family doctor has me on tramadol 150 mg. I do take more 300 mg a day. She wants to stop the med because she thought it was short term, and did not know it was addictive. If I talk to her about suboxone.. can she prescribe that med? Or does it have to be a cash only psych Dr? ## Hello, Mj! How are you? Suboxone also contains an opiate and carries just as much of a risk of being habit forming. It combines Buprenorphine with Naloxone. As listed by the FDA, it can also cause similar side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Any doctor can prescribe it, the restrictions only apply to it being used for addiction treatment. However, as I said, it is another opiate. Have you considered seeing a pain management specialist? ## Can a family doctor prescrib...

I would like to know which drug is similar to tramadol but can be taken with lexapro? ## Unfortunately, from what I am finding, all of the centrally acting analgesics in that class can cause problems with Serotonin Syndrome, if they are taken with the Lexapro. The same warnings come up for the other options, such as Tapentadol: Has your doctor recommended anything? ## As usual Verwon has been to the reference library. It is true that really only the relatively new to market tapentadol HCl, branded Palexia, Tapal, and in USA Nucynta, is similar in that it is both a mild opioid and SNRI. Tramadol is the stronger drug mg for mg, but is not much more potent than the true opioid dihydrocodeine tartrate. Both of the atypical drugs with SNRI action are partial mu-antagonists. Onset of action a...

is tramadol a heavy narcotic ## Although in technical terms it is not considered a narcotic, it exhibits very similar properties to other narcotics. For example, it can be addictive, withdrawal symptoms can develop, it is very potent, etc. Hope this helps. Please post back if you have any other questions or info to add about this.

Now that tramadol is considered a narcotic I am trying to find something for my pain that will work similar to tramadol. Any help would b great. ## Hello, Tera! How are you? No, it is not a centrally acting analgesic like Tramadol, that's why it usually only used to treat migraines and tension headaches. Has your doctor made any suggestions? What is causing your pain and what else have you tried? This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

I have a rheumatoid condition and am prescribed both Oxycodone and Tramadol. I alternate between them, not wishing to become addicted. What I'm unsure of is whether they are different enough chemically to prevent my body getting too used to either one. I also take a day off here and there, but I just feel very wary. I have to do pain management, but I just want to verify that taking Oxycodone one day and Tramadol the next doesn't strike my body chemically as being the same thing. Many thanks for any helpful response! (Cross-posted in oxycodone forum as well). ## From what I could gather, nih.gov classifies each drug under similar, but different drug categories: "Tramadol is in a class of medications called opiate agonists. It works by changing the way the body senses pain. O...

I we recently put on an antidepressant called Brintellix 10mg. However i have been on tramadol 50mg 2x a day for over 2 years and 300mg gabapentin 3x a day for 2 years. As well as norco 7.5 3x day. I've only been on brintellix a week and nervous that maybe that's too much serotonin medicine. Does that make sense? ## Yes, it does make sense and it is a possible risk. Serotonin syndrome can be very dangerous. Have you had any other symptoms aside from the tiredness? The main concern is the Tramadol with the Brintellilx, mixing them does carry a strong warning about the possible dangers and advises that alternative medications be used. ## I take similar meds as you. Been on Brintellix 10 mg a few weeks, also 100 mg Zoloft (down from 200mg). I stopped tapering off Zoloft because I f...
