My husband was prescribed Tramadol for back pain to stop the spasm, but we also noticed they stopped the persistent cough he had had for weeks, can he get something similar that would work as well. ## It would require a prescription, just like the Tramadol, but there are medications used for cough that contain Codeine or Hydrocodone. Is It a narcotic? How safe is it to take for long period?Does it interfere with any other drug taken? I take it for fibromialgia and rheumathoid arthritis. ## No, Tramadol is not classified as a narcotic, though the FDA has changed their minds on this, several times. Currently, it is classified as a centrally acting analgesic, because it does not control pain as well as a narcotic, but it can cause similar side effects, such as: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and dry mouth. It can react with some other medications, however, there are far too many for me to list. Can you post back with the name of any other drugs you are concerned about? I too have increased energy and cheerfulness with a single 50 mg Tramadol. When I don't take it for a day I am very lethargic and ache. I try not to take it more than a few days in a row. The doctor is surprised at the side effects. Thank you to those who shared a similar experience. I had been wondering if this was my imagination. Hello. I have searched the web and can't seem to find a problem like mine while coming off tramadol. I have horrible stomach burning and pain that extends down both sides of my rib cage. It happened once before when I was coming off tramadol and you think I would have learned to stay away from this poison. Two bottom teeth extracted towards the back ## Hi Tee, From what I could gather, there aren't any drug interactions listed between Ibuprofen and Tramadol. So as far as mixing the two is concerned, both medications are generally regarded as safe to use together. But if you're ever looking for an alternative to ibuprofen, there's also a similar brand I know of called Ultracet that contains both Tramadol and Acetaminophen. Sometimes you can only take so much of a certain medication, where as having a backup option might come in handy if you can get your doctor to prescribe it. I hope this helps! My new doctor gave me 3 weeks to get off Zopiclone now she wants me off Tramadol. How long would this take? Is there something I can take that is similar but not addictive? I have a rheumatoid condition and am prescribed both Oxycodone and Tramadol. I alternate between them, not wishing to become addicted. What I'm unsure of is whether they are different enough chemically to prevent my body getting too used to either one. I also take a day off here and there, but I just feel very wary. I have to do pain management, but I just want to verify that taking Oxycodone one day and Tramadol the next doesn't strike my body chemically as being the same thing. I we recently put on an antidepressant called Brintellix 10mg. However i have been on tramadol 50mg 2x a day for over 2 years and 300mg gabapentin 3x a day for 2 years. As well as norco 7.5 3x day. I've only been on brintellix a week and nervous that maybe that's too much serotonin medicine. Does that make sense? ## Yes, it does make sense and it is a possible risk.
