Morphine is a pain medication of the opiate family that is found naturally in a dark brown, resinous form, from the poppy plant (Papaver somniferum). It can be taken orally, sublingually, via inhalation, the trans-dermal route, inter-anally as well as via injection (both subcutaneously as well as more commonly intravenously.[7][9] It acts directly on the central nervous system (CNS) to induce analgesia and alter perception and emotional response to pain. biege tablet sp 782 ## The Oramorph with 782 on it has a number 53, not SP! The company that uses the SP logo does not list that they make any morphine tablets, they do many OTC products thought and there is no comprehensive listing of all of them. ## Another typo, I am doing great this morning, can tell I didn't sleep well. That should be a number 54, not 53, sorry. ## Im a methadone user (85mls) is 30ml of oramorph to much or not enough?

Has anyone else noticed the taste change in Oramorph Oral 10mg/5ml? ## Yes, it tastes less sweet and stronger, it reminds me of alcohol (which I no longer drink, due to morphine) I am so scared I may accidentally take an overdose. I used to self harm and take various overdoses when younger, whilst drinking alcohol. Now I don't want to die, and panic I have taken too much. I now take 30mg MST every 12 hours and 30-40ml of Oramorph every 4 hours, when required. Sorry off topic a bit there, the flavour seems to linger in the mouth much longer too, unless you have some water or juice after to clear it. ## There are at least two flavours of oramorph, I've been using this product approx 5 years since I broke my back, my chemist switch between the two flavours on a regular basis, it is...

Hi, I'm in hospital at the moment and have been taken off morphine and I'm now on oramorph but it doesn't seem to be shifting the pains in my stomach I have said to the nurse but she is not for giving me it what could be the reason for this ## This medication also contains Morphine, so it should work just like the Morphine does. What dosage are they giving you? The NIH warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation.

I am on palexia/ tapentadol 500mg sr and 100mg ir as well as up to 50 mg of oramorph . I eventually get some pain relief after taken the total dose of oramorph which is 10mg every two hours. Instead of having to wait the 8-10 hours for the oramorph to kick in could i safely double or treble the dose of oramorph at the beginning of the evening when i take my first dose ## Hello, Geo! How are you? I'd not suggest changing your dosage, unless your doctor approves. These narcotics can cause depression of the central nervous system, which may result in lowered heart rate and blood pressure, so too high of a dose could put you in danger. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth an...

I'm needing to stop taking Kadian as it's too expensive. Does anyone know the cost of 80 mg Oramorph per month taking one every 12 hours? 60 pill per 30 days. ## I don't think anyone can give you a specific answer, unless you post exactly where you are and what pharmacy you want to buy them at. It is going to vary from area to area around the country. Some prices may be pretty close, but it would still only be a guess. Oramorph is another name brand of Morphine, so it is also liable to be expensive. Have you considered asking your doctor or pharmacist for the generics? There are generic versions of time released Morphine that are much cheaper. ## alphapharm provides an indigent med program for Kadian i get mine for free it cost me 18 dollars to overnight it and 3 days later ...

Is Oramorph 10mg/5mls classed as controlled drug? ## Oramorph contains the active ingredient Morphine, which is a potent opiate narcotic, so it is a controlled substance in most countries. You'd need to check the laws in your location to see what it's classified as for you. Learn more Oramorph details here. Does it require a prescription for you?

Would you consider a 20mg dose of Oramorph (a first dose) to be excessive, in a 93 year old person with a history of many medical problems, including COPD? The person had never been given it before, and was given 90mg in 9 hours, when it was then necessary to administer Naxolone. It was given for stomach pain. What could be the possible outcome of this dose? ## Yes its excessive 2.5mg more usual and even then used in caution with elderly esp with copd. Naloxene given to remove morphine from system almost instantly so its simple conclusion. I'm a ex nurse currently on large doses of morphine and have been given naloxene following of so consider myself fairly informed

I was given Oramoph back in January 2012 for acute pain, but was then managing well with Tramadol so put it in the cupboard, I am now in need of it once again but it says dispose 3 months after opening. Would I come to ay harm if i took it now? ## It may make you sick, as in causing nausea and vomiting. It likely will not work for your pain. Liquid medications have a very short shelf life, that's why the expiration date was 3 months, after that, they lose efficacy very quickly. Learn more Oramorph information here. Are there any comments or questions?

Hi I have got gallstones and I have been given oramorph and co deine and paracetamol from the hospital I am on 5ml every 4 hours but still the pain is bad would I ne able to take it every 2 hours or 10ml every 4 hours ## Hello, Jacqui! How are you? You should not change your dosage, without your doctor's approval. Both the Oramorph and the Codeine are narcotics, so you may overdose if you do so, they also carry the risk of being habit forming. The FDA lists their typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation. Paracetamol is also dangerous, if you take too much each day, an overdose of it could result in fatal toxicity. Are there any other questions or concerns?

my father has been prescribed oramorph as and when required he has severe heart failure and a large build up of calcium around his altua valve he coughs continually and causes pain if he took this every time he coughed. Could this be an overdose and kill him? ## Hello, Trevor! How are you? I am very sorry about your father's condition. However, it has been found that when patients have such severe conditions, providing them with such medications in higher doses, or dosed more frequently doesn't hasten death. Now, if he were to take a dose every single time he coughed, if he was coughing rapid fire, then it could still be too much. In most cases, unless a couple hours have passed, if he just waits a few moments after coughing, things will settle back down and the pain will taper ...

Went to pain clinic and he asked where is most of your pain and I replied at the moment its a burning pain so its different. What im worried about is ive taken oramorph for 6 years and now he is changing me. Im worried that the oxicodone wont be as strong as the 60mg of oramorph I take twice a day. Does anyone know if this is te right move to manage my pain. I dont want to go from being able to get about to being housebound due to pain. ## Hello, Tanya! How are you? I have severe neuropathic pain but Oramorph doesn't seem to help at all, it just gives me the runs. Is this normal? I thought this stuff would help. ## Not every medication available works for every person that tries it, that's usually why there are several different options, sometimes even hundreds, in any given therapeutic category. Learn more pain management details here. What other medications have you tried? For nerve pain, many people have had good luck with the anticonvulsant medications, such as Gabapentin. Learn more Gabapentin details here. You may want to look into seeing if it, or another in the same category are available there and if they're safe for you to try. ## I too have severe Neuropathic pain in my left leg, I take Morphine Sulfate tabs every 12 hours an...

I have a strange response to Oramorph - I take 10ml for persistent hip pain two or three times a week. It takes about 2 hrs to kick in and lasts about 10-12 hrs. It is not slow-release. Sometimes I wonder if I'm imagining this or maybe it just relaxes me so the pain feels less. I would like to know if anyone (especially women as I've heard these drugs aren't evaluated on women), has had a similar experience? My doctor says it's impossible! Thanks. ## The length of time that any given medication works may vary from person to person, a lot of it depends on your own body chemistry and metabolism. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. And yes, th...

On Tuesday night I was in a lot of pain and unable to sleep. I took too much of my oramorph. I was really disoriented and vomited. I slept all day yesterday and last night. Today I still feel really sleepy. My family will be angry with me if they knew. I'm bit in any danger am I? ## Oh dear last night I had same problem I suffer from piriformis and couldn't sleep , so rather than measuring out the morphine I took mouthful from the bottle, I've been sick can find no energy and slept all day so far ..i have sought medical advice I'm just about ok ..made me think twice about what I take I've ditched the morphine and feeling rather stupid ## Life threatening danger would have occurred with the first few hours after taking too much, but you should still inform your doctor...

Just want to know incase the nhs decides I have to pay for it in the future ## Hello, Kj! How are you? I'm sorry, but this site doesn't prescribe nor sell any medication or products, so I don't have a price to quote for you. Have you tried asking your local pharmacist/chemist? This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. ## I am looking for some ORAMORPH Solution as I have a fused leg with metal pin in then I have 7 Over granulation ulcers and I feel like screeming with pain. Today the doctor switched me from Kadian to Oramorph. I was taking 80 mg. of Kadian twice a day to Oramorph 60 mg twice a day. Should I expect the same relief I was getting on this lower dose. The change was due to the need to lower costs for my meds. Is there a difference between the beads and capsule form of kadian as the pill form of Oramorph? Thanks for any help. ## They both contain Morphine, so yes, switching fro a higher dose to a lower one may not give you quite as much pain control. They are both time releases formulations, so there is really no difference in that. The side effects will also remain the same: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and constipation.
