I've been on hydrocodone and morphine ER for many years. Last year I got up off of the morphine and was just taking hydrocodone. Now I have a scheduled surgery coming up on my back. My pain medication is not enough and I have seven days till I get my refill. I thought maybe I could resume my morphine ER, one in the morning and one at night, as I didn't finish that prescription when I stopped taking them. Will that be OK? ## What has your doctor advised? It is very important to take only medications that your doctor approves, especially before surgery. The FDA warns that opioids carry the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation. and dry mouth. How long do I need to be off Contrave prior to having a significant orthopedic procedure which I know I will need opioid pain meds for after? ## Hi Cherlyn, The half life of Contrave's active ingredient 'Naltrexone' and its metabolite (naltrexol) are reported to be about 4 hours and 13 min. However for the simplicity of keeping track of time, I'd probably just average it at 4 hours. And you'd probably want to double check with your doctor/surgeon on this - but I've heard from some medical professionals that it can take up to 3-5 half lives for a medication to leave your system. IF this really is the case (and I know everyone is different), 5 half-lives for Naltrexone would add up to 20 hours (or pretty much a full a day). 4 hours is a relatively quick half-life c...

please help me i need to know ## Hi Kelly, Dicyclomine and Demerol are different from one another. Dicyclomine is a muscle relaxant used most commonly to treat IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome a.k.a. spastic colon). Demerol is an opioid analgesic (a strong narcotic pain reliever). Hope this helps!

U.S. Senate has succumbed/conspired with health providers to practically eliminate severe or chronic pain med for the elderly. Some 16,800 deaths of young drug mixing punks & the cost of providing these meds; has caused the low level intelligence & greedy health providers to furiously lobby (bribe) the U. S. Senate to order a 40% decrease in severe/chronic meds for the elderly; not for young drug mixing "punks" because they will mix something else. It has been shown that the Senate members have been drunk or half drunk in decisions like this. Proof of the aforesaid? here it is: the Senate ignores 1.6 millions of deaths & or severe mutilations due to alcohol. Senators have never done heavy strenuous work that by the time you are 65/70 years old, everything hurts to a ...

I'm confused!!! In this thread, Gabapentin and Pregabapentin are said to be the same drug then someone else says no, they're difference. I CANNOT take Gabapentin as it makes me crazy and angry. Is Pregabapentin going to do the same??? Also is there ANYTHING else anyone can think of to get off of Oxycodone??? I've been addicted for 15 years and a heavy user due to true pain. The last time I ran out I almost died. Can someone please help me with any suggestion other than rehab or Suboxone to get off of this??? Thank you!!! ## Hello, Diva! How are you? I believe you have the names mixed up. They are Gabapentin and Pregabalin, they are both in the same drug class, but are different medications. Both are classified by the FDA as anticonvulsants that have been proven to help with ...

Please help.. I have been on narcotics for chronic back pain for 19 years and just moved to VA. I need to find a good Dr. that is not afraid to continue with my meds. I take several different pain meds .Any help would be appreciated.. ## @"Comments Submitted"... Since you've written your question over three years ago, I'm not going to go into any of my history at this point. Where in VA are you located. I moved back here from MD in 2007 and had been seeing a PMDR in MD for over eight years. I did find one in VA last December, but had such a bad experience, by the grace of God I was able to get a PMDR close to home in the same office as my orthopedic surgeons. Just let me know if you've found one or not. ## I live in winston salem nc so if u live anywhere near Danvill...

Hello!!! This is a question for my mother, not me. She doesn't know how to use 'Net. She is in her late 40's and has horrible anxiety, and chronic pain [endo, back problems, cervix problems, fibroid, currently has sprained/bruised rib, and her uterus is backwards from giving birth to me, good job, me!] She was on oxycodone 7.5 but she lost one of her pain specialists because they accused her of "stealing" a bottle of oxys that were supposed to be for her upcoming surgery [hysterectomy] but we had problems w/insurance. They wouldn't cover the surgery but she had already filled the pills, so they said she stole them even though she said she'd give them back, but they said no, you shouldn't have filled them in the first place. So she got kicked out. Anyways,...

I need help. I'm getting a vivitrol shot in 2 days. I have taken opioids up until last night. I want information from anyone that has actually taken opioids up until around 65 hours before their shot, and if so, what were the side effects? Please I need help. I'm scared but I also need the shot. ## Yes, you need to be in full withdrawal, before getting the shot, or there is a risk of it putting you into dangerous precipitated withdrawals, which may include seizures, according to NIH warnings. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, and stomach pain. It would be best to make sure your doctor is aware of the last time you took opiates, to make sure it is safe for you to be given this shot. Are you on any other medications? ## Hi, i don't know much about viv...

Hey all fellow patients out there, did you know the CDC has published a list of their proposed 2016 guidelines for doctors who prescribe opioids for chronic pain? That includes oxycodone, lortab, percocet, hydrocodone, opana, suboxone, morphine, and any other drug that has an opiate ingredient in it that so many of us count on to lead normal lives! This affects all of us and the comment period ends on January 13 2016! That's about a week from now! You know the doctors are going to have to follow whatever federal rules pass so if you are worried that you might not get the care you need please go to the gov web site for the office of the Federal Register and submit your comments to them before it's too late! Hello. I'm needing to take tramadol & co-codamol, but have bad constipation. Any thoughts on sticking to tramadol only maybe? Best wishes. ## You can discuss that option with your doctor, it really depends on what works best for you to alleviate your pain. However, in many cases, opioid related constipation can be alleviated by just increasing ones fiber intake through foods, or a fiber supplement. Along with the risk of being habit forming, these medications may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, and dry mouth. How are you doing, now? Has there been any change? ## You can get an over the counter stool softener or ask your doctor to prescribe one and make sure you are drinking lots of water. That should alleviate your constipation.

So lately I've been seeing A LOT of people saying how they have changed the strength and color and pharmaceutical brand of their 10mg Percocet from the good yellow ones that worked great to now these white ones that are pure garbage! Luckily I don't get those I get oxycodone 30mg IR and oxymorphone 30mg ER witch have yet to be tampered with. Yes I know it's only a matter of time before they get to changing those to. Although I have been hearing about them supposedly changing them 7yrs ago to be tamper proof from my pain doctor and so far thank GOD they haven't touched those yet. The government is putting pressure on the Pharmaceutical companies and or are in bed with them to change the formula to make them weaker and or not work at all even as far as a placebo. They thin...

white bar M inside a square other side 57 51 ## Based on the description provided, I found your pill to be Methadone hydrochloride (10 mg). I am taking 70 mg daily methadone, have been going to clinic for 2 mths now. I have a severe sinus cold/infection and was wondering what OTC medication I can take without the risk of an adverse reaction? Ugh, just want to be able to breathe again!!! ## I had a chance to look at the UCLA Health drug interactions list between Methadone and Nyquil. Unfortunately it lists a number of interactions which would likely deem the combination unsafe. This is because of the ingredients contained inside Nyquil (Acetaminophen, Dextromethorphan, Doxylamine Succinate, Alcohol, and more). 1. Methadone w/ Doxylamine, MODERATE interaction: "Concomitant use of opioid agonists with doxylamine may cause excessive sedation and somnolence. I need to know what opioid analgesics and benzodiazepines are prescribed in india as I am on 120mg OxyNorm, 8mg clonazepam, 6mg Xanax per day and 24 to 36mg bromazepam as required ## Desperately seeking help / advice for dealing with severe chronic pain. ## Zaborav, for countries other than the U.S. and Canada, it is really hard to find a comprehensive list of their approved medications, because they generally don't regulate them as strictly. However, I can tell you that they do have equivalents, from what I have seen for most of the medications you are taking. You'll just have to discuss with a doctor or pharmacist there to see if they have the same ones or if you have to switch to something different, but in the same class. FDA Updates Prescribing Information For All Opioid Pain Medicines To Provide Additional Guidance For Safe Use: "As part of its ongoing efforts to address the nation’s opioid crisis, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is making several updates to the prescribing information of opioid pain medicines to provide additional guidance on the use of these powerful medicines."
