Im in an addiction treatment program and I'm taking two 8/2 mg strips a day. I've been a slave to opiates for approximately 25 years. I've reached the point of being fed up with being dependent on pain pills to function. my addiction dr suggested trying to find a pain management dr who would treat my chronic pain with suboxone. It does alleviate my pain ...or might I say ..makes me functional and the pain tolerable. is this an actual option? I've done research on this and have gotten mixed reviews on the subject. I trust this site and follow it daily so I'm asking for some information and suggestions. I function better on suboxone than on oxycodone dilaudid or morphine (I've been prescribed them all plus some others) give me some feedback. What should I do or is ...

Has anyone else been prescribed Belbuca? I'm unable to have any other opiates prescribed to me and now I'm on this med. I'm surprised how well it works after a few adjustments to get the dosage right. I'm currently on 600 mcg 2x day. I have lots of back issues and I used to take Hyslinga 30 mg x 2 day and oxycodone 10 mg 5x day. This stuff is much easier to manage then the pills, and the pain relief is great.. ## That's awesome, so very glad that it is working so well for you, since it tends to be hit or miss for some people. The FDA warns that Belbuca does carry the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, and headache. Is anyone else also experiencing good results on this medication? ## The dosage ...

I need a Doctor in Oklahoma City that will prescribe Methadone. I've had chronic pain for most of my life. I took lortabs or similar meds for yrs. Got into a bit of trouble so got on Methadone maintenance therapy. This works for me most of the time. I'm just so tired of having to pay $240/mo for it. Plus, all the "hoops" they make u jump thru. I would be willing to drive out of town if not too far. Please help me! ## Methadone Maintance is for those addicted to opiates. It will be very difficult for you to find a pain management dr who will treat your pain when you've been in a Methadone Maintance program. Drs want copies of previous drs medical records. There is also the Prescription Monitoring Program that drs check before rxing pain meds. You also have to jump thr...

Hi, it is so sad to see so many of us suffering needlessly due to ignorance! PLEASE HELP, ANYONE WHO KNOWS OF A PAIN MANAGEMENT DOCTOR IN SHREVEPORT/BOSSIER CITY AREA (or within a couple of hours) who will help as I have moved here from California and desperate to find a caring pain doctor! It took SIXTEEN doctors and about 8 years of HELL to finally find a medication regime that helps my extreme chronic pain from two serious car accidents and several bad slip and falls. Quick list: Extreme FMS, herniated disks, spinal cysts, stenosis, spondylosis, arthritis, osteoporosis, nerve impingement, neuritis/neuropathy, massive inflammation throughout, for about 12 years have been taking methadone 10 mg, norco for breakthrough, soma for muscle spasm, neurontin for nerve pain. Have not increased...

I have a rare kind of polyneuropathy that affects my long nerves. I have had severe chronic pain for over 8 years. My pain doctor in Florida switched me from oxycontin to methadone because the oxycodone made it difficult to sleep. I recently moved to Mass. and so far the two doctors I've been to eliminated my breakthrough meds (oxycodone 30 mg. 4 times a day) and decreased my methadone from 140 mg a day (taken evenly in 10 mg a day) to 70 mg a day (10 mg. tabs throughout the day) and I am back to excruciating pain. I cannot work, eat a healthy diet, sleep, take care of my family, etc. Why don't any of these doctors realize that although there are risks related to taking opiates, that QUALITY of life is what is important to me? Do you know of any doctors in Mass. (Lowell area) th...

Taking Nuvigil 150 mg for 2 days, feeling awesome as compared to before - awake and productive all day. I still yawn like I'm tired all day but stay awake. Also, I cant stop swallowing and drinking water like constantly. Headaches. The main thing is that I'm a chronic pain patient and I don't even want or need my pain meds until it wears off!! Anyone else have a similar experience? ## Yes. I have general chronic muscle pain. Nuvigil reduces that pain. ## I've been taking opiates for several years, and over the last year I've become more dependent on them and my usage has grown into a daily regimen. Recently, I've found some Nuvigil pills and since starting them, my opiate usage has decreased significantly. I'm not sure what to make of this really. ## Well, I...

For various reasons I suffer severe pain related to: Spinal Stenosis, herniated disc in cervical spine, previous broken tailbone. I have previously tried, Oxycontin, Hydrocodone, but now am on Fentanyl patch along with Neurontin. These only control about 50% of pain and have often "breakthrough" pain that is nearly unbearable. A friend recommended Methodone to add to these meds. Can anyone tell me if it would help? Also, would it be risky as far as overdosing? I have a really high tolorance to opiates.

Below are two links to new recommendations for prescribing opioids for chronic and acute pain in 2016. If you take opioids for chronic pain or acute pain, you need to read them so you will be prepared for what your dr may be doing regarding prescribing opiates. At the time of this posting these Are Not Laws, they are only recommendations. But, considering how almost all drs are going by other Guidelines and Recommendations like they were laws, these shouldn't be ignored if you want to be prepared. all of the opiates are secretly being reduced. in drugs that are combined with aspirin Tylenol such as lortab the 7.5mg is no longer made, with doctors not even knowing this. it is the 5mg that is the strongest. the tylanol is not reduced. people in chronic severe pain will not get the relief they are expecting and take more not realizing the toxic effect Tylenol has on the liver. they are also reducing the amount of opiates a dr. can prescribe a month. when the unwinnable war on drugs turns torture and possible liver death we the people need to stand up and scream for the people in to much agony to fight. only 10% of people are junkies, which includes alcoholics.they are born with a chemical imbalance that drives them to abuse whatever substance or behavior. we need to take back our mon...

Pain relief for chronic spinal arthritis for opoid tolerant patient ## Hello, David! How are you? I'm sorry that you're in pain. What opiates have you tried? Fentanyl may be an option, if you've exhausted the others. It's the most potent one available and is usually prescribed in a skin patch that is changed every 48 to 72 hours. It's an idea you could discuss with your doctor. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. ## Thanks Version. Let me explain a little more about what has happened. I went through chemo for stage 3 lymphoma a year ago and since that time I have fractured 2 vertabrael in my spine. The firs...

Hi I am trying to find a doctor in the Rochester, ny even buffalo area that will prescribe methadone for my chronic knee pain and all I am finding is addiction treatment facilities!!! Can u help? ## Well, if you're searching under Methadone/Methadone treatment, that's all you're going to find. There is no listing of doctors that treat pain with any given medication. For pain, Methadone can be prescribed by any physician that has their license and can prescribe medications, however, if they advertised it, imagine the type of people they'd have beating down their office door. :-) The biggest issue that I think you're going to run into is many doctors not wanting to prescribe it, though they may be perfectly willing to prescribe other opiates. Many are reluctant, since ...

I'm a chronic pain pt. I was on 16 mg of sub for pain for 2 straight years. It completely stopped working, when in the beginning it worked "good enough" now, my dr is a pain specialist and suboxone dr. He put me on a fentynal patch 25 mcg told me to take my last dose of sub and put patch on at same time because sub should b mostly out of my system within 12 hrs. I had no problem switching but a little wd from the sub. It is only day 4....dr said 40% of your opiod receptors r still open on sub!!! It only fills 60% of them. Still, enough to block most opiates, except very high doses. Now, I am just starting to feel the fentynal on day 4. But am still in moderate/sometimes severe pain. Anyone with a similar experience???? ## Hi Painpatient38, I haven't personally had an exp...

"First do no harm." The starting line in the Hippocratic Oath. I have been a chronic pain patient off and on for 20 years. Should have been ON for the duration, but idiot overdosers and Congress got involved. Drs. are not fulfilling their path. Legitimate pain patients like myself live a miserable existence. We are not seeking drugs to get high or to sell, but to at least dull our pain. I contemplate suicide daily as a way to not feel the constant pain. There is no joy, no happiness and nothing to look forward to when even the smallest task brings tears to your eyes. Physicians are afraid to prescribe meds they know will alleviate pain because a bunch of bureaucrats, far removed from reality, dictate what they can prescribe. How unreasonable is that? Congress doesn't know me...

I am a long term chronic pain patient, due to complications from surgeries pregormed to try to correct a disabilitating, painful, congenital back deformity. Each surgey failed to relieve my pain. I am also very sensative to medications and am unable to take anything with acetomenophen. I did get good relief with NSAIDS, but had GI complications and cannot take those either. I am very intolerant of opiates because of the side effects, nausea, etc. I also cannot stand the, "high" that usually causes people to increase their meds, as they become more tolerant. After exhaustive evaluation at a pain clinic, a combination that helped my pain and I was able to tolerate, was finally discovered. It consisted of low dose MS Contin every 8 hours, plain Darvon 65 for breakthrough pain and l...

Hello, I am 31 yrs old. I have had 2 back surgeries. The last was a spinal fusion of my lower back in 2012. I have 6 bolts and two rods in my back. Lortab 10 mg does not help at all. I can not do anything due to so much pain in my entire back, and down my right leg. I was given a Roxicodone 30 mg and all my pain was gone for about 8 hours. ## David, Sorry to hear about the pain your in but like myself chronic pain when it involves issues of the back postoperatively most doctors are Leary to Rx potent opiates/opioids for long term pain control.actually your fortunate to have access to hydrocodone.sadly most docs aren't even willing to prescribe that 5 years post surgical procedure as I believe you stated. The only suggestion I can make is to honestly share your issues with a specialis...
