Are there any tricks to get the insurance company to authorize opana when the 2 other medications that they cover are giving me way to many debilitating side effects . My pain doc switched me to opana or OxyContin so I'd get pain relief without sedation, itching , rashes and vomiting . I've tried OxyContin and I had none of those side effects. My doctor just sent in the letter of medical necessity and if it gets denied I'd like to know what are things that they look for specifically and things they consider there to be cause to approve the request and authorize it? i wanted to get some more feedback regarding Opana 40 mg ER and any side affects that you may have. I have two herniated disc's L4-L5 & L5/S1 & I have stonisis of the spine as well.. I am only 39yrs old and my pain management Doctor referred me to this type of pain medication since I am way to young to have back surgery. I am currently on my second steroid IV of dexamethasone which is a series of 3 intravenous doses and they have done nothing so far with the inflammation. I was just at my pm appt and my doc informed me that endo pharmaceutical has won the legal case on stopping other pharmaceutical companies on making the generic. Which I find is bs that they get to keep making the brand which doesn't work for the majority of pts including me. I was on opana er 30 just got bumped up to 40mg made by global pharmaceutical company. So as the pts what is there to do when you can't find the generic anywhere in the near future? So the only difference is the strength as there is no such thing as instant release Opana 40mg. The only IR version of Opana is 10mg, which is available as the generic oxymorphone 10mg. I never had a problem going to any pharmacy and getting my prescription filled. Now CVS Drug chain states they can't fill it because "They are at their threshold"? What?? Hello I take opana 40mg Er 3x daily with 8mg of deluded for break threw pain. I have l3-l5 fussed I have Ben on opana now for 6months before that mscontin and oxy. The opana does work for me with little to no side effects I have to agree with fellow commenters about the abuse of the drugs. All it does is make it hard on people like my self that suffer from chronic pain. It is good that they make the drugs more tamper proof but in some cases the drug failed to work because of the new formulation. ## @Bahm, In my honest opinion, it really comes down to just being open to other forms of treatment options so one isn't fully dependent upon big pharma (or any other single source of medication) to cover all their needs. I have been taking Opana er 40mg for over a year. My last refill was April 12, i was given a round pill with 40 on one side and E on the back. I am in constant pain! Any suggestions, I take 3 per day with 10/325 percocets 4x day. The pharmacy told the Dr. i must have been crushing my pills - i wasn't. I'm not crazy, these pills don't work. ## The Opana time released tablets were recently reformulated, with the intent to make them harder to abuse. what does an opana 60 mg look like? ## There is not a 60mg Opana available on the U.S. market. Opana is a very potent narcotic that contains the active ingredient Oxymorphone and it is only available in a maximum of 10mgs. Was it perhaps a different medication that you were thinking of? There are tablets of both Morphine and Oxycodone that are available in 60mg dosages. ## Opana is not available in a 60mg. pill. You would need to be prescribed 1-40mg., and 1-20mg., in order to be taking 60mg. of Opana. ## Is there a red round 60 mg opana?

The Oxymorphone in it is actually twice as strong as the Oxycodone, so if you were taking 40mgs of it, then the equivalent dose of Oxycodone would be 80mgs. Both can be effective at controlling pain, it just requires a dosage adjustment. You should also know that there are no more Oxycontin OCs. Purdue has changed the formulation and they are now Oxycontin OP. Are there any questions or comments?
