On Placebo Pills But No Period

Hi I just recently started using my pills and I was wondering what happens if my period ends before I'm done taking all of the placebos? Should I just continue to take all the placebos till theyre gone or start taking the active pills once my period ends? And is there any way I can choose the day I want my period to start? ## Hello, Rosa! How are you? Very good questions to ask, so you can be sure. You should continue taking all of the placebo pills, even if your period ends, before you're done with them. To choose the day you start, switch the day you start taking the placebo pills, just make sure your doctor approves. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irregular bleeding, and PMS-like symptoms. Is there anything else I can...

I've been on sprintec for about half a year now and never had problems. Recently I missed 2 blue pills and had intercourse within those days and now im spotting a week before the white pills. What does this mean? Do I jump ahead and start the white pills that im supposed to take while on my period? Why did this happen? ## HI, Nisa! That can happen if you miss active pills. When you have your period while taking oral hormonal contraceptives, it is actually called a withdrawal bleed, because it is due to a withdrawal of the hormones. The tablets you take that week are actually just placebos. Thus, by missing pills your body is made to operate as if it is time for the withdrawal bleed to occur and having intercourse those days increased the risk of pregnancy, just an FYI. ….and y...

UGH I should have NEVER skipped the pills and started a new pack. Yes, it delayed bleeding for about 3 days for my anniversary but this isn't worth it. I've been now bleeding for 2 weeks straight. Mostly spotting the last few days but heavy at the time I take the pill each day. I'm almost at the end of the 3rd week and want to know... should I just take the sugar pills and continue bleeding and then everything will go back to the way it was? Or should I skip them again and start a new pack? I don't want to bleed anymore. It's making me so moody and I'm breaking out and crying. I've been on this for 2 years and never had an issue until trying to skip my period. I think it's time to get a monophasic. HELP. ## Hello, Kate! How are you feeling? I'm sorry ...

Hi y'all. I started my new pack of lo loestrin sept 14. Prior to that date my placebos would have been weds, thurs, fri, & sat. I did not take any because I thought the were just sugar pills. So I had my break week I just didn't take the pills. I have not got my period is that suppose to happen? I'm really stressing about it because I don't know if I should have gotten my period please help! ## Hi April, Based on my research, the non-hormonal placebo pills are not meant to serve any therapeutic purpose. So in my opinion it should be ok to simply skip those and not take anything during that time frame if that's what you want to do. I actually heard that the placebos are more so intended to help keep you on track for remembering to take the "active" pills o...

But I don't see my period even though I already took 4 placebo pills. Please help ## It doesn't work like that, sweetie. You're probably pregnant.

I have been on lo estrin 24 fe for about 6 months now and my period has never been late. I skipped the brown placebo pills back in Dec. and Jan. because my period came on the first day of the last white pills. This month I took the last three white pills going into the placebo pills and spotted on the last day of the white pills before I was to start the brown pills. I started the brown pills and have not seen my period as yet and I am supposed to start my new pack two days from now which is sunday. Been getting crampy and having signs of my period coming but nothing as yet. If I don't see my period by monday. Def. taking a pregnancy test and heading to my doc's office. ## Meant to say I spotted one day on the last white pill before I started the brown pills and have not seen my...

I have been taking minastrin foe 6 months now. I always have a normal period while on the brown pills. This month I haven't had anything. I was intimate on the last day of what would of been a brown, I don't take brown since I was told that are inactive. I am on day 3 of white pills on a new pack and still no period. Could I be pregnant? ## The brown tablets contain a small amount of iron, but yes, you are correct, otherwise they are just placebo tablets. Some women tend to bleed heavily and risk becoming anemic, taking them can help prevent that, though the NIH warns that they do not contain enough iron to treat existing anemia. And it can be normal to skip your period, sometimes, while taking oral contraceptives, according to the FDA. Some women have even stopped menstruating ...

I used the trigestrel to skip the placebo pills cz I didn't wanna menstruate I did this once, I just skipped them and started a new pack now on the new pack I didn't get my period it's just spottings and dark marks as if I will menstruate but I never!! and I finished 2 packs already. I thought I would get my period once I started taking the placebo pills again...should I be concerned? ## Hi Kat! So, u just recently started on the pill? Am I correct? Sometimes, when u first start birth control pills, your menstrual cycle can b off. Due 2 the hormones in the pill. It's normal 4 women 2 spot or have discharge. Some women never really get a regular period on the pill. But, do b careful, because the pill isn't 100 percent. And, if u r worried about this, call your doctor.

hi. So i just took one placebo but do not want to get my period this week because something special was already planned. Should i just start a new pack right away since i have not gotten my period yet? will that still keep me protected? ## HI, Lenna! If you've already taken one of the placebo pills, then you will most likely still start your cycle in a day or two, there's really no way to prevent it now. In the future you could do that to skip your period, just keep taking active pills and toss out the placebos, as long as your doctor approves, but it's a bit to late right now. Any break from the active tablets, even just one day, can allow for a withdrawal bleed to occur. Is there anything else I can help with?

I've been on Tri-Sprintec for 6month's , I decided to skip my period So i went right into the new package, I ended up getting my period anyways i've been bleeding for 11 day's now. Is this normal with this birthcontrol? ## Yes, it can happen. They are hormonal based, so you don't always get what you want, when you try to skip your menstrual cycle. Learn more oral contraceptive details here. Is there are times you do want to skip or adjust your cycle, then you may want to talk to your doctor about trying a different one. Are there any other questions or comments? ## I am on my first set of blue Sprintec pills and I started my period two days before I had to take my placebo pills and so far now my period has been going for 8 days. Is this normal? And if not what should...

I came on my period twice this month I started at the beginning of the month and I'm back on again at the end of the month while on my blue pills for sprintec, if I stop taking the pill and just wait until I get the next pack, will my period stop? ## Hello, Sabrina! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. Irregular breakthrough bleeding is normal for the first 3 months, or so, while your body is getting used to this medication and no, stopping them likely won't help, because the last week of the pack are actually placebo pills with no active ingredients that normally induce your period. The FDA lists the other typical side effects as possibly including nausea, headache, weight gain, irritability and PMS-like symptoms. If the bleeding is very annoying...

I've been in loestrin 24 for a year now, possibly a year and a half. My boyfriend and I are active and we use pull-out with the birth control. I'm on my last day of white pills today and yesterday I started getting a brown spotting, like the beginning of my period, and now when I woke up today it was dark red and kind of clumpy (sorry) like it was the beginning of my period. I've never had my period start before my placebo pills, usually on the third brown pill is when it starts. I haven't missed a pill completely, but I have taken several this month 3-4 hours late, if that makes any difference? I'm a little freaked out and have been really stressed for a while. If anyone can shed some light on what's going on I'd reallllly appreciate it. Thanks. ## If you...

I started my pills on 8/4/13 and this week I'm on my placebo pills and I haven't missed no active pills and take them at the same time. But haven't start my period. When will I start? ## Hi, Jess! Did you start it the first day of menstruation or at some other point during your cycle? Have you been engaging in intercourse? If you start the first day of your period, then you are protected immediately, but if you start it at some other point, then backup contraception must be used for the first 7 days. Have you done a pregnancy test? ## ok so I started my period on 9/11. started sprintec on 9/26. had intercourse 9/30. I missed one pill the 3rd day but have been taking them everyday since then. when should I expect my first cycle? ## I am on my very first pack of Sprintec. My d...

I have had 3 conssecutive disulfiram implants whitch had a great pshycological effect. I did not drink for these 3, 3 month periods. One day after my fourth implant, something overwhelmingly upset me and I turned to the bottle only to discover I had no known side-effects. That was yesterday. Today I am drinking again. I'm not sure what to make of this. In the beginning I truly believed this is the answer. Now I'm not sure if my doctor is pulling the wool over my eyes or if for some reason my liver still manages to perform its usual duty whilest on treatment. Is there a proffesional that can please shed some light on this? The lives of many depend on my recovery. Thank you kindly

I am going on a trip in a month and do NOT want to have my period while I during it. However that is the week I will be taking the placebo pills and having my period. I have been taking sprintec for one month and have had no side effects at all. I never miss a pill and take them at the same time everyday. I know I can try to skip my period by starting the next pack immediately but I also know it might not work. I was wondering if there is anyone out there who have had no side effects from the pill and who have successfully skipped their period for 1 month with no breakthrough bleeding or spotting during the week that they skipped. Thank you all in advance! ## Hello, Kate! How are you? Yes, there are many women who have done so, including myself when I used to be on an oral contraceptive...

Hi! I have been on Minasterin FE 24 for about 1 year now. I had my normal period last month that started on the second day of the brown placebo pills. I started the white pills on the same day I started my period (meaning I didn't take 2 of the brown placebo pills). Am I at a higher risk for pregnancy this month? ## No, those are also placebo tablets, so to speak, they only contain an iron supplement to help prevent women from becoming anemic, due to their menstrual bleeding, according to FDA listings. As long you don't miss any active pills, you should be fine, but it never hurts to check for pregnancy, if you are concerned. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, PMS like symptoms, and irregular bleeding. Is there anything else...

I have 5 days of active pills left and accidentally took a placebo, what do I do!? ## Hello, Jessica! How are you? Take an active pill, as well, it won't hurt anything and then just have a day where you don't take a placebo pill during your period week. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, breakthrough bleeding and PMS-like symptoms. Is there anything else I can help with?

I recently started using oralcon, when I got to the red tablets I thought that's when your period starts but my friend told me otherwise when I asked her. So I continued it and eventually got my period. I now started my 2nd pack. Was I supposed to take the pill during my period? I've been doing research and I read about a 7 day tablet-free week. I'm a bit confused ## Yes, the red tablets are the week you should get your period. And yes, you should take them even while on your period. The regular OralCon has 3 weeks of active tablets, then the one week of red that are placebo tablets that allow a withdrawal bleed to occur. They are used to help keep you in the habit of taking a pill each day, to try to keep from forgetting to take the active ones and raising your risk of preg...

Hello, I just started taking Lo Loestrin FE and would like to delay my period at the end of the month for a vacation I'm taking to the Caribbean. Do I just skip the last 4 pills (white & brown) on the pack and go straight to the blue pills on the new pack? ## Yes, as long as it's okay with your doctor, you'd just skip the lower dose pills, or placebo pills that would induce your menstrual cycle. Unless there are certain medical reasons that may make it unsafe for you to do so, it is normally okay to do it. You are new to taking, however, so there are no guarantees that you may not experience a cycle, or breakthrough bleeding, anyway. Is there anything else I can help with? ## This is my first month on lo loestrin. When should i expect my period? I just took my last brown...

I've been on Sprintec for 5 months and I skipped my first set of placebos and I started bleeding and have been for a week now. I'm guessing its breakthrough bleeding but it's bothersome. I'm wondering if my body is just telling me I'm outta wack since I went two packs back to back. How much longer will this last I wonder? Pretty annoying. ## Hell, Jackscal! How are you? Has the bleeding stopped, yet? Some women's bodies just can't handle the use of hormones straight through their cycle, which can cause breakthrough bleeding, or spotting. In most cases, taking a break during your next schedule period week get it to stop. If it doesn't, you should consult your doctor. But a week isn't considered an abnormal amount of time for your period to last, it can...
