topical ointment ## I don't know if there is anything specific you would like to know regarding Vitamin A & D topical ointment? Below is some basic info about it for those seeking a brief overview. Vitamin A & D is a petroleum and lanolin-based ointment that has vitamin A and vitamin D in it. The ointment protects the skin and the vitamins promote healing in minor burns. I personally used it a number of times to help heal a couple tattoos and it worked great! I'm sure it has a few other uses as well, but certainly wound care is a top priority for this ointment. If you have any specific questions or comments to add, please post back.

debridement ointment ## I have a large wound on my left ankle. It started out as pressure ulcer and I was using hydrocortizone for the itching. I did not know that the cortizone would make my skin there very tender and at one point when I was washing a large patch of skin came off, so now I have a small patch of a wound. I am using Staphaseptic for the wound and a natural cream for the itching. It is healing slowly and there is some dead skin that needs to be removed. Is there an over the counter debraidment ointment to help get rid of the dead skin?? Thank, Bob ## I am 75 yrs old. I have Sakram troma. I have had 3 surgaries so far because of recurrence. It is malagnant. My doctor prescribs Elase oinment for the new wound as big as can be filled with a goose egg. I live in Iran, but my ...

want to use Mazon soap & ointment for itch & skin rash. I am allergic to wheat, wool, chcken eggs & milk. As a child Mazon soap & ointment was used with success. ## Hello, Lois! How are you? I'm sorry about your multiple allergies. Mason Medicated Cream is still available, the manufacturer even has a telephone ordering center, you can reach them at 888-418-2783. The FDA classifies this an over the counter product, so it isn't regulated and its active ingredients are listed as being salicylic acid, resorcinol and coal tar. The only known side effects are skin redness and irritation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## The massage therapist at my Chiropractor's office, whom I gave a jar of Mazon cream, never complained about skin irritation and itchiness...

Can I still buy Gray's ointment and if yes, where? ## Hello, LaDonna! How are you? No, it is no longer available. One of the ingredients was oil of turpentine, which the FDA kind of frowns on being used in skin ointments and such. An alternative that is available would be to just look for a drawing salve, they do similar things, but use ingredients that are approved and considered safe. Is there anything else I can help with? ## If diligent and lucky, you may find Gray's Ointment on eBay as have I. Medicine bottle and container collectors sometimes offer it. I have used Gray's Ointment for over sixty years to even somewhat phenomenal success. No other drawing salve, and I have tried, is efficacious. My mother was an old school RN when they did minor surgery and more. She use...

## There was an ointment that my mother would use when we would get a cut or blister or anything that might get infected. This was before antibiotics or antibacterial. It was coal black and smelled slightly of tar or sulphur. She would apply the ointment and bandage the cut and leave for a few days. When the bandage was removed the skin would be healed and looked white for awhile but there would be no scarring or discoloration. Do you know what this was and if so is it available today. I would love to have it as I am sensitive to antibiotics. ## Possibly ichthammol? ## An old-fashioned remedy for deep wounds that must heal from the inside out is: Clean wound with hydrogen peroxide. Pack wound with dry grated raw sugar. Cover with air-tight tape. Do not disturb for 5 days. Repeat treatme...

Can t-bact ointment be applied for active acne? Or any other type of acne? ## T-Bact contains the active ingredient Mupirocin, this is an antibiotic that is used topically, most commonly used to treat MRSA. Has your doctor told you to use it for this? If not, it is not advisable to do so, because it is not to aid in the development of antibiotic resistant bacteria when used improperly. ## Hey thanks Verwon, for ur reply.. but yes my doctor has asked to apply dis n i hve been getting good result. ## i have mosquito bites all over my hands which is like a tiny tiny dots with some scratch marks. my sis-n-law suggested T Bact as she used it for her son and found it to be good. what should i do. use or consult a doctor ## i recently had an accident n i've got my skin peeled off near my r...

Is their any cream or medicated ointment for vaginal itching ## It depends on what is causing the itching. In most cases, it is due to a yeast infection and, if that it what has caused it, then an antifungal medication will be required, either in cream form, or taken orally. The U.S. FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including redness, irritation, discharge and spotting. What has the doctor recommended?

Hi! Can I use Santyl on my face to remove dark skin and on the lines of the face? ## Santyl is a collagenese ointment that is normally used for debribedement, such as when someone has a wound that won't heal and has developed necrotic tissue. Has your doctor told you to use it for these purposes? Otherwise, I can only think that such use would be inappropriate and is likely to cause more harm than good. You can learn more about it here: ## I had a severe infection in my rectal area and the surgeon had to dig deep to clear out the affected tissue. I am left with a deep cavity which requires daily changing of a fistula, and wound care. The cavity seems to be narrowing. Santyl is used in wound care, but it's too expensive. I remember a really pleasantly distinctive ointment which my mother used on us. It was called 555 ointment. It was in a small green glass jar. I thought I'd heard that it was made at the pharmacy we used in Schenectady NY. Does anyone have any recollection of this? ## Hello, Francene! How are you doing? I can't find anything listed under the name 555 Ointment, or other variations of that, so I am forced to assume that it was likely a regional product that was specially compounded by that pharmacy for their customers. Things like this were available all over the U.S., some required a doctor's prescription, and some didn't, but they were all different, and had their own name variations depending on location, and use. Magic Mouthwash was the name for one very common one tha...
