any one with data on safe use while pegnant ## At 41years old, I took Methyldopa to control my blood pressure through my pregnancy. My son was born healthy with no complications. But, my primary doctor kept me on the methyldopa after I stopped breastfeeding and I had multiple adverse side effects. My advise is to switch to a different blood pressure medicine ASAP after the birth of your child if it is still necessary.

Was soundly berated because I hadn't picked up prescription for months. I tried to explain I hadn't been able to afford the prescriptions. Then I was told off because I asked for a repeat prescription for Serevent inhaler which I use with the Qvar inhaler I tried to point out that the Qvar had 200 doses whereas the Seravent had 120, therefore I was going to run out of the Serevent before I ran out of the Qvar. She wouldn't listen, told me off as if I were a child. I am 60 years old and have had asthma all my life. I came away feeling depressed and angry. ## Hello, Cat! How are you? I am so very sorry about what happened to you. Obviously, this woman has no people skills and shouldn't be working with the public. Stuff like this happens to everyone, from time to time and s...

I just had my spinal revision surgery on 11/4/2016, and due to the severity of the issues and problems, the surgery took far longer than expected. This surgeon was expecting, and correct, that I would require a stronger pain medication regime following surgery. Through several trial and errors, and the need to be off of IV therapy to be admitted to rehab, we decided that I would be on ms contin 30mg XR and dilaudid 8 mgs x4hrs prn. Pain management working well with only minor breakthrough pain easily handled through controlled breathing. I have found that a dose of ms contin at 8pm followed by a dose of dialaudid at 10pm allows me somewhat decent sleep until 4:30-5:00am! Something that I haven't been able to do for at least 6-8 months! Until tonight of course!! Nurse gave my MS cont...

my Dr Rx 20 mEq tablets with my Lasix 40mg everyday. The mfg companies need to rethink their making of such a ' large and hard to swallow tablet'! I have choked numerous times and have had to be given medical help! Recently my RN crushed my tablet While I was in the hospital and I was found unresponsive. I have chronic abdominal pain 24/7, gastroparesis, gerds, and IBS. Remember the majority of K+ users are the elderly who have a difficulty swallowing!!! Nurse Jackie ## I don't know why you think the crushing of the medication had anything to do with you being found unresponsive. Potassium is not supposed to be crushed because of its corrosive properties. It can cause esophageal and stomach lining corrosion, the same way it burns if infused too quickly through an IV. I started taking Suboxone two years ago and it has been a very positive experience, I'm off the hydrocodone, tapering off Suboxone successfully, and it also saved my marriage. My husband and I recently moved to a different state, so I had to leave my very wonderful Suboxone doctor (an addiction specialist for 30 years). The Suboxone doctor I found in our new state has both a PA (Physician's Assistant) and a Nurse Practitioner who see patients. When I made my first appointment, I was surprised that it was with the PA and not the doctor. I was even more surprised to see the PA for my next 3 appointments, but the big shock came when I began seeing the Nurse Practitioner! In nine months, I saw the PA 4 times and the NP 5 times. I HAVE NEVER EVEN MET THE DOCTOR. When I scheduled thes...

What is the nole and responsibilities for nurse while administering deriphylline drug ## According to medical literature, breastfeeding while taking Deriphyllin is generally not recommended, unless absolutely necessary, due to part of the drug being secreted through breast milk. My research also suggests that Deriphyllin may cause irritability or other signs of mild toxicity. On the other hand, The American Academy of Pediatrics considers Deriphyllin to be compatible with breastfeeding, noting that side effects are unlikely unless it's delivered in high (toxic) concentrations. They go on the state that the peak milk concentration of Deriphyllin occurs between 1 and 3 hours after ingestion of the dose. Therefore, exposure to the infant can be minimized by breastfeeding prior to the a...

In three years time, I’ve only seen the dr that the nurse works for twice. They charge me 250.00 a visit and they write my meds. I, being the wife of a dr and knowing the laws, got prior authorization. All they had to do is sign but they are refusing because I pay cash.

Has anyone ever heard of this ? She said if I took a med that was supposed to last 6 hrs only lasts 3 hrs ## ?? Are u sure she said a 6 hr med lasts 3 hrs......or did she say a 6hr med has a half life of 3 hrs? ## Please correct me if I'm wrong Rae, but are you referring to the notion that a long-acting medication wont hold up to its proposed duration of action because of the way your system metabolizes meds? I have heard stories about pills not getting fully metabolized and actually ending up in your stool.. but nothing really in line with metabolizing them too fast. Do you ever notice a rushed onset of effects from taking certain medications because of this? If that ever becomes an issue you may even want to let your doctor know so he/she can help you determine a safer dosing regi...

I have been having problems with my back for about 5 months now. This is after back surgery 10 years ago where the surgeon fused my L 4 and 5 discs, leaving the plates and screws in my back. My doctor put me on Norco and of course the regulations for this is that I have to get a written prescription for a refill, usually not a problem. But my past couple of call in to the doctor's nurse have been impossible. I signed a form explaining thirty day prescriptions giving a 24 to 48 hour response. And if the refill falls on the weekend it will be before that. Well before this I was only receiving a 22 day (90 quantity, 4 pills a day) prescription, taking 1 pill every 6 hours. I have not received a 30 day prescription yet after signing this form. When I tried to call to get my refill becau...

I am a High School nurse, who needs to ID this drug. ## Can you please describe the color and shape of this pill? Also is there any way that the marking might be similar to P570, but maybe the 5 is an 'S' or some other difference? There does not seem to be much info on the imprint code you posted. ## this is a white pill oval shape and the only mark on it is p570 ## Jamie, no luck with the pill id; My guess at this point is that it is one of the following: 1) a drug from outside the USA 2) an over-the-counter drug; Basically any prescription medicine and common otc meds are easliy identified. If there is a pill with no information on it, it's usually an independently manufactured otc product. 3) an illegal drug Obviously i doubt it's number 3, but wanted to share my thou...

I am a home care nurse. Today one of my pt's had a prescription for "Prendil" which does not appear in any hospital formulary. Do you have any data on this medication for control of hypertension ## The correct medication name is actually Plendil and it contains the active ingredient Felodipine, which is a calcium channel blocker. Side effects may include: nausea, headache, dizziness and stomach pain. Learn more: Is there anything else I can help with?

A nurse from my Dr.'s office called to tell me to take Mentanx, and said it was over the counter...However, I can't seem to find it...Where then? ## Metanx is a nutritional supplement, specifically formulated to treat diabetic peripheral neuropathy, it contains Folic Acid, Vitamin B6 and B12. And no, it is not available over the counter, due to the formulation and amounts it contains, it is available from your pharmacy, by prescription only. Have you tried contacting their office, again? If they want you to take this, you will need a prescription.

My son's nurse accidentally gave him an extra dose of his Dilantin... What should I do? ## I took an extra dilantin (100mg) for 3 days, but I usually take 4 a day. Did I take too much? Can I stop taking it tomorrow? I'm scared. Will I be ok?

a nurse toldf me that where I live, in Chicago, there clinics where doctors simply dispense whatever you ask for ## It has been known to happen, but such occurrences are the reason that the government has made so many crackdowns on prescription drug laws. I don't know of any place that still does this, most have been shut down. They were usually called 'Pill Mills'. If you require medications to treat chronic pain, your best and safest bet is to see a pain management specialist that can help you. Are there any other questions or comments?

I am a school nurse and one of these pills GC 101was found in hallway, after not being able to identify pill via web, called local pharmacy and it pulled up as non aspirin pain reliever 325 mg so in other words generic regular strength Tylenol. ## Thank you for taking the time to share this information! I also find it rather difficult to identify most of the OTC medications, since their pill imprints aren't usually listed online. A few pill identifiers out there actually specialize in identifying OTC meds, but they require some sort of ridiculous monthly subscription that most of the general public probably isn't willing to pay for. For those who may be looking for additional details on Aspirin, you can learn more about this drug on the page for Aspirin Details I hope this helps!

Im a nurse ive taken it for 2 weeks how ive recently stop how long does it last in your system ## Hello, Nikki! How are you? Phentermine has a half-life of approximately 25 hours and total clearance time is usually anywhere from 5 to 6 half-lives, so you'd be looking at 125 to 150 hours. The FDA classifies this medication as an appetite suppressant that's used to aid in weight loss. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, elevated heart rate, elevated blood pressure and anorexia. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Is 75 mg of Adipex to high a dose, I’ve had Phentermine 37.5 mg but not Adipex 75mg, what will 75mg do? ## Is (India) Adipex 75mg Appropriate doses? I am a hospice nurse and the discussion has come up as to the shelf life of the narcotics that we use such as Ativan,Morphine, Dilaudid. Is there a blanket time that we can use for all narcotics that have expired expiration dates on the label. ## Okay first, Ativan is not a narcotic, it contains the active ingredient Lorazepam, which is a Benzodiazepine, so rather than treating pain, it is used to treat anxiety, nervous disorders and some severe cases of insomnia. Learn more: And second no, dispensing expired medications to your patients would be considered illegal under U.S. law. Are there any other questions? ## Calm down, Nurse Nancy geeesh ## Um. Yes, lorazepam IS a narcotic... Narcotic does not mean "illicit drug", that does not make any sense. The way that I see it, people...

I was 5 years into my nurseing career when I crashed and burned hard. At the end I was misusing over 100mg of morphine /day, or 8mg hydromorphone, or 300mg meperidine. Went to heroin after getting caught and losing license. 3 to 5g/day if I could. So I was a very heavy user for 9 years or so. Went to rehab, did 35 days in patient. That first 30 was bad. Insomnia, PAWS, depression all pretty bad. But in patient, with 20 or more other survivors, structured days etc made it possible. After discharge (I went 3000 miles from home for rehab) I returned and plugged into recovery network. Meetings, sponsor, phone calls etc. First 2 weeks out (day 35-50) were tough. Restless leg, cramps, diarrhea, insomnia, depression, anxiety, lethargy, all part of PAWS. Friends in the rooms said it would pass....
