Hello...I recently had a urine drug screen. I am on prescription Norco, Klonopin and occasional Valium for testing at the hospital. My screen came back positive for Benzo..Oxazepam and Nordiazepam. Is this one medication or 3 different ones? Oddly.. the Norco didnt even show up? Please advise..thanks alot! ## Oxazepam and Nordazepam are different drugs, but they are both Benzodiazepine derivatives and related to the Klonopin and Valium that you take. Benzodiazepines are known to cause false positives for other, similar medications and the hospital or doctor testing should be aware of this, especially if there aren't using certified tests. That's why, in most cases, they will just use general tests, that look for Benzodiazepines, or narcotics, rather than the specific ones. And w...

Hi, I am prescribed diazepam 10mg, suboxone 8/2 mg, ibuprofen 800 mg, and nexium 20 mg and I take over the counter Excedrin and women's multivitamins. My Dr gave me a drug test and it showed I was positive for Nordiazepam, Temazepam, and Oxazepam. I have no idea what these are, I've never heard of them. If anyone can please help me understand why these showed positive in my system or have any info at all please help. Thank you! ## Hi it's me again, right after i posted my question I continued to research and I actually found my answer. Come to find out the 3 metabolites of diazepam are Nordiazepam, Temazepam, and Oxazepam. They can be prescribed for a variety of medical conditions and on drug tests they show as separate benzodiazepines. But the diazepam breaks down in your m...

I take 1mg of prescribed Alprazolam at bedtime. I got an OWI charge for sitting in my car in a parking lot because I had a migraine. My blood test for drugs showed 12ng/mL of Alprazolam in my system as well as <10ng/mL of nordiazepam. I have researched the Alprazolam drug testing limits and have found that 50ng/mL is the cutoff, which I was no where near that and have never heard of Nordiazepam. Would Nordiazepam show up because I take prescription Alprazolam?

I tested positive for diazepam and nordiazepam on a toxicology drug screen. I do not take these drugs. Is it possible that zolpidem(I'm prescribed) could cause a false positive for benzo's? ## I tested positve for diazepam in a blood test. I do not nor have ever taken diazepam. I do take ambien, and have seen where ambien tests "false positive" for diazepam on a urine test. Can ambien also test "false positive" for diazepam in a blood test? ## Ambien contains the active ingredient Zolpidem and no, I haven't been able to find any information on it causing false positives for anything. Were you taking anything else, even over the counter products? ## Yes I was taking gabapentin, synthroid, motrin(800 mg.),81 mg aspirin, calcium, multi vitamns,seroquel,ranitidine,...

I was arrested for a DUI. I refused the breath test, I was given a blood test. My results came back .05 BAC. But diazepam was found in my blood and also nordiazepam. I had .043 MG/L of ambien in my blood.(Is this considered an amount for impaired driving? Also I have never taken diazepam and don't even know what nordiazepam is? How can these drugs show up in my blood test and I never took them? ## On the cheaper, less reliable tests, it seems anything is possible. False positives are known to occur on them anywhere from 4 to 50% of the time. Have you recently taken any other kind of medication (over-the-counter or prescription)? Something else you took is very likely the cause of these false positives. If you recall taking anything whatsoever, I can do some research on it in hopes o...

What are the drugs diazepam breaks down into? What is the dosage the doctors fear will be addicting? ## Hi Sarah, From what I could gather, the main active metabolite of diazepam is known as "Desmethyldiazepam" (which is also commonly referred to as Nordazepam or Nordiazepam). The other remaining active metabolites are "Temazepam" and "Oxazepam". Ref: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18618924 As far as "what dosage a doctor might be fearing for addiction", that is something that could vary from doctor to doctor based on their own individual discretion towards these types of drugs. However, some patient reviews I've come across suggest that just the act of taking diazepam daily can bring about its addictive habits, whereas increasing the duration of time in-bet...

I'VE BEEN TAKING ATIVAN 2 MG.AT HS.FOR YEARS , THEY SAID NONE SHOW UP IN MY URINE TEST.WHY WOULD THIS HAPPEN? ## Don't know if you're still looking for an answer to this, but basically cheaper urine tests (like the immunoassay) only test for the two most common metabolites of benzopdiazepines which are Nordiazepam and Oxazepam. Lorazepam's metabolite is molecularly dissimilar from these more common metabolites and therefore only shows up as positive in very high concentrations. If it had been a GC/MS test it would have easily been detected. ## My son overdosed on 80 ativan and his tox screen was normal when he got to the hospital. The hospital staff was totally confused ## I am glad to find out the reason that my oxy and adderall show up every time but not my ativan and ...

I took a half a valium 10mg 15 days ago, is it still working in my body? ## Hi Ivan, From what I could gather, "the reported half-life of diazepam is listed at 43 hours (give or take 13 hours), but actually has a range as broad as 40-100 hours if you include the contribution from active metabolites; whereas Diazepam is metabolized into nordiazepam with an estimated half-life of 40-99 hours." Ref: nhtsa.gov/people/injury/research/job185drugs/diazepam.htm Given such a long half-life, lets just use 48 hours (or 2 days) as an example half-life for determining how long 10mgs will remain active in your body. On day 1: say you took 10mgs On day 3 (or 2 days later): 5mgs will be left On day 5: 2.5mgs will be left On day 7: 1.75mgs will be left On day 9: 0.875mgs will be left And if you ...
