An analgesic is any member of the group of drugs used to achieve analgesia, relief from pain. The word analgesic derives from Greek αν - ("without") and λγος - ("pain").[1] Commonly known as painkillers, analgesic drugs act in various ways on the peripheral and central nervous systems. They are distinct from anesthetics, which reversibly eliminate sensation, and include paracetamol (known in the US as acetaminophen or simply APAP), the non-steroidal anti-inflamma...

I have tapered off 100mcg plus 100 mg Kapanol plus Ordine. I got down to about 7mg morphine a day but the pain got so bad I had to go back on 20 mg Kapanol / day. Does any one know of an alternative way of relieving pain without opiates and drugs please? I have started investigating neuroplasticity and pain and have asked my GP about intrathecal pumps which deliver pain medication directly into the damaged area of the spine. If I keep using Kapanol my tolerance will increase rapidly and I will finish up in the same mess as I used to be due to addiction and CNS changes ## Have you considered trying other medications that aren't so habit forming? There are several available, including Gabapentin and Pregabalin, both are anticonvulsants that have been shown to help with certain types o...

I began taking amox K clav 875 today for a serious skin infection. How many days before I can begin feeling some relief from the pain? ## Hello, Linda! How are you doing? I'm sorry that you're in pain. Usually, you should see improvement after taking an antibiotic for a full 3 days. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Have you consulted your doctor? It might be okay for you to take Tylenol, or Advil to help, if your doctor approves.

I can not take any NSAIDs due to being a gastric bypass patient and there is too much of a risk of a bleed with these drugs.. I am already on hydrocodone so I can not take any other narcotic analgesics. Is there any other non narcotic chronic pain reliever out there to supplement the hydrocodone. Can't take tramadol now because NYS classified this as a narcotic. My doctor is going crazy trying to find something for me and has had no luck so far. ## Why can't you take another narcotic? They are very commonly combined to give someone better pain relief. People with severe pain are often given a long acting narcotic along with a regular or instant release one for breakthrough pain. But if your doctor doesn't want to combine them, you could switch to a different one that's s...

I'm on a 6 day 4mg pack of methylprednisolone. It was given to me for sciatic and nerve relief. I just finished day 2, still have horrible pain, trouble walking, using the bathroom, get random headaches and diarrhea. The only way I am semi-comfortable is when I am laying on the side that hurts. I haven't had pain in my back, only from my thigh to toes. I still feel the pain when I stand and sit. The only relief I get is when I keep the leg bent while laying on it. I'm desperate for any advice. I've been to the er 4 times, given every muscle relaxer pill, and a shot of morphine. I am scheduled for an mri after the 6 days are up, but freaked out because laying on my back is extremely painful. ## Hello, Hollie! How are you? This is not an analgesic, it is a steroid medicati...

I am going to have surgery to repair a fractured humerus and percocet does nothing to help with the pain. What meds can I get my dr. to prescribe? ## The first choice in many hospitals now for better pain relief is Dilaudid, which contains the active ingredient Hydromorphone. Learn more Dilaudid details here. It's very potent, it only takes 3.75mgs of it to equal each 10mgs of Oxycodone, which is the active narcotic in the Percocet. Just like other narcotics, there is a chance that it could be habit forming and it may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and constipation. Has your doctor made any other suggestions? ## i think opoid drugs like tramadol and opoid related drugs can help you but addiction resuls if u take more than its dosage and duration ## I agree ...

I have chronic pain from fibromyalgia, inflammatory arthritis, and bulging discs in my back. So far the doctors haven’t been able to do much to help with the various treatments that they are having me undergo. I had a medial branch block done last week, which is basically going in and numbing your nerves and it is supposed to make your pain go away for about six hours, if it works they go in and fry the nerve endings in the same area. Problem is since the initial procedure my pain went from a normal 5 to 6 to a regular 7 to 8 and that is if I don’t do anything… at all. My regular doctor was prescribing Norco 5/325 for me but now that I am “associated†with the pain center, she would like me to see them...

Been having treatment and acupuncture and nothing so far seems to help. There are times pain grabs me and almost puts me to the floor. I've been using patches on the area and at times do get some relief but it interferes with my walking as well. Is there anything I can do to get rid of it? I do have arthritis. Thank you. ## I'm looking for something to fix the same thing...after driving for 10 minutes I get pain in the right side of my butt. Let me know if you find something to help. ## Hello Crafty Lady, I would love to give you some non medicinal ideas as to what you might be able to try to relieve the pain. First you can heat and ice the painful areas, which I am assuming is what the patches you are referring to are for. It is also extremely beneficial to do stretches that ta...

gel or cream for muscle and joint pain ## There are several on the market, both prescription and over the counter products. You can easily go to any drugstore and find quite a few choices, such as Icy Hot. They often contains products such as Capsaicin or Menthol, to help cool and sooth the ache in the muscle or joints. I need a USA equivalent after dental implants ## It is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory, this one, Dexketoprofen, isn't available here, but there are several others that are, both over the counter and via prescription. Chronic pain is a multifaceted inflammatory condition that often requires immediate access to any feasible form of treatment. Scientifically, we know that pain and inflammation are synonymous. We also understand that opioids are one of the best-known treatment options for masking chronic intractable pain/inflammation. After all, poppies were put on this planet for a reason... But with so much regulatory interference, political upheaval and restricted access to opioids, we all have to wonder, is there anything else on earth that comes remotely close which we as a society may have overlooked? Chronic pain doesn't wait around for us to find something that works. Like an old scar, it will remain constant every waking hour and every hour of sleep. Therefore it is crucial that we must act...

Migraine headaches seem to be a trait in my family. My grandmother, mother, myself, and even my daughter...have all suffered from them, starting in early teen years. We have tried other meds but none completely stops the debilitating pain as Darvocet did. No, it did not stop or prevent the migraines but the pains were completely gone until the next dose was due...which allowed us to continue with life and work. With so many people the drug helped through the 50+ years on the market, why not bring it back with a heavy black box warnings? I feel bad for the handful of patients who died on it (though the Tylenol in it kills more a year) but for the many other people who used it without problems...why not bring it back? ## Unfortunately, the FDA deemed the Propoxyphene in Darvocet, and its ...

I am currently on Opana ER 20mg twice daily, but with not much pain relief. Would a prescription of 30mg twice daily OR 20mg three times a day be reasonable? I have been in significant pain for a long time and want to get something that would make the pain more bearable. ## It really depends on you. A higher may help, but there is a chance that it might now, it could be that this just isn't the right medication for you. The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming and could cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. Are you on any other medications?

Is there anything that has proven successful for anyone else to relieve stomach pain? I have tried beano, pepto, tylenol/advil. Ive taken the meds with food, without food. There has to be something that has worked for someone else other than what is in the instructions from the manufacturer. Thanks. ## Hello, Jennifer! How are you doing? I am very sorry about the problem that you're having. If nothing is working to help and the pain is that bad, this just might not be the right medication to help you. Have you discussed the problem with your prescriber? Not all medications can be taken by everyone that tries them. Have you tried any other methods to quit smoking?
