I'm trying to wean myself off the Fentanyl patch. I went from 75 micro-gms to 50 now I'm on 25. Having a problem and not sure it is related to the decrease in the med. It's been 20 days on the 25 micro-gm and I'm going crazy. I need to keep rocking, moving in any way b/c my body is very restless. Is this a symptom of withdrawal and what do I do? I cannot take it any more. ## Yes, that can be caused by withdrawal, you probably jumped down in dosage a little too fast. This med is very, very strong, 80 times stronger than Morphine and it has a half-life of 17 hours, so that means once you take off the patch, it takes 17 hours until it has dwindled to 50% off the full dose in your body, then it slows and actually takes 3 or 4 days before it is all out of your system. So if y...

I have been on the 100 mg patch and Percocet for my Crohns and Colitis for years. Last week I went cold turkey on my own recognizance. I had my 2nd colostomy surgery which elevated my pain mostly, hence quitting. I am having insomnia and terrible joint pain but never had I been more clairvoyant in years. I take Advil for my back and work out 4 days a week which helps sweat the toxins out. Exercise releases natural endorphins which are like a synthetic morphine so my specialist says. Its up to each individual to face their own truth. When you're ready to quit, you know. I wouldn't advise you to do what I did but that's always been my personality. I quit smoking this way as well. Its not for everyone. Good luck all. After the storm comes the sunshine, TRUST ME! ## HI Iceman, T...

I have been on Fentanyl for pain of cancer treatment side effects & have been reducing from 400mc & down to 25 mc without any side effects. After 48 hours of last dose I have been having involuntary leg movements, first on left for 12 hours. Had a little relief and upon eating and taking normal medication, I began vomiting and got involuntary leg movements on right side. Are these withdrawal symptoms? Do I need to go in to a doctor? I have no small dose of Fentanyl left to take. Only 100 mcg doses. ## Have you consulted your doctor, yet? Those can be withdrawal symptoms, but it is always best to check with your doctor to be sure. In addition, they may be able to advise you on how to alleviate them, until the medication has fully processed out of your body. ## these are almost de...

Aloha from Hawaii- this is my 6th week off fentanyl patch 100mg and breakthrough oxy 40mg day for several years. Also was on Valium. So, I went through a medical detox, but still have the following symptoms and I hope they aren't permanent: - hand tremors - T.M.J. ( tension in jaws) - stoned feeling - electricity - tension running through my body, twitching, spasms - insomnia Any body know if I am doomed? Maui Girl ## I am trying to handle going off 25mg fentanyl patches on my own. My doctor wants me to continue using them. My quality of life was going down hill. She had me change patches every 48 hrs and it seemed my body was sucking most of it out in 24 and I was sleeping alll the time. It has been a week since I had a patch on and the withdrawal is hell. Cold, hot, nervous, body ...

Pain clinic increased the fentanyl from 12 to 25 and now I finally back down to 12mcg. Took the patch off today (I'd rather have pain than fentanyl). I am still having skin crawling, restless legs symptoms with each step to decrese the dose. I want to be off this horrible drug and go back to work. How long will the symptoms last? Also, the fentanyl has made me very emotional, and decreased my mental alertness. I have been forgetful and can not evn remember the first few weeks I was put on the patch. Is this medication this awful for all or am I just a rare case? The medicain was prescribed by a PA when my ortho surgeon was out of town. After only three weeks, I was having physical withdrawal symptoms between patches and when I tried to tke it off, I was in pretty bad shape. Thanks f...

i have post surgical lower back pain. was in 50 mcg patch and had side effects and so decided to wean off. i finished with the 12 mcg patch a week ago and am still suffering from periodic nausea, irritability, daily joint and muscle pain, but the worst is the consistent restless legs. it is driving me crazy. my doctor says that is not withdrawal. is he right? i don't think so. if it is withdrawal, what can i do about it and how long will it last? i am going crazy. ## Of course it can be from the withdrawal, your doctor might be surprised if he talked to some former addicts and learned the various things they suffered, when withdrawing from their drug of choice and you don't have to be abusing a medication for such things to happen. Hi, About three years ago during treatment for rectal cancer, I was given Dilaudid and Fentanyl as part of a pain management program. During a 10-day hospital stay, Dilaudid was injected sub-q every half-hour by means of a pump, and Fentanyl was injected by nurses when necessary (4-5 times a day). After discharge from the hospital, I kept the Dilaudid pump but, fortunately, Fentanyl was no longer required. I stayed on the pump until surgery 6 weeks later. Dilaudid was administered for another 10 days after surgery, but since the cause of the initial pain (a large tumour) had been removed, I no longer needed the medication. Withdrawal was limited to a couple of days of shivering (this was during a heat wave). My question is this: how long after taking medications as powerful as these doe...

My husband, age 77, developed severe acute pancreatitis and has been in the hospital for the past 8 months. He has been on Fentanyl patches (the lowest dose) plus some extra fentanyl injections anytime the nurses thought he might be feeling pain. His pancreatitis healed in 3 months, but by then he developed a huge back bed sore. From the beginning, even when they were giving him morphine at the beginning, before the fentanyl patches, he developed breathing and sleeping problems, with intermittent rapid panicky breathing spells. With the patch, he has had also hallucinations and was forever either totally sleepless or totally drowsy. Because of the breathing problems, he has now a tracheatomy. His immune system was also compromised and he had several severe infections, i.e. lung and bloo...

Hi all. I have seen a lot of posts in the drugs forum about Fentanyl withdrawal. I too have been struggling with the withdrawal symptoms for 10 days now. Trust me when I say it DOES and WILL get easier. I know that if you have just recently started a taper or have gone cold turkey because a taper hasn't worked for you, you're probably not feeling very well right now.Trust me when I say it will get better. It may take weeks to finally feel normal again, but the worst will be over before you know it! I was on 100mcg/hr for about a year, and just recently tapered to 12.5 but went through withdrawal anyhow. Here are a few things that might help, and that have helped me get through the worst of it. ****REMEMBER***** To consult your doctor before pulling yourself off any medication :)...

I was on 25mcg Fentanyl patches for about 2 months. I went down to 12mcgs to wean myself. After the 12s ran out, I was extremely sick for about 4 days. It's now been 2 weeks since the sickness of withdrawal, but every now and then, I have weird symptoms like nausea, rapid heart beat, jitteriness, insomnia, that last usually a few hours then go away. Is it possible that I am still feeling the effects of the Fentanyl withdrawal? ## Hello, Husky! How are you feeling? Yes, they can linger for quite awhile and, just like you've experienced, they tend to taper off in severity. Things should steadily continue to improve. However, if they don't, or if they start to get worse, please be sure to contact your doctor. This is a very potent narcotic, so you do have to be very cautious. L...

After my patches were taken on a beach trip mith several families, I am currently on day 9 ofwithdrawals. Exhaustion, calves spasming are bad,but the chills almost seen worse and unbearable at times. Had major back surgery in November and was treated for pain using the patches for nearly 2 years. I've been through opiate withdrawal oncebefore, but this is nearly debilitating. I've not slept in days. ## Did you report the theft to the police? If you have a police report, your doctor may be able to help you. What types of symptoms are you experiencing? The FDA lists the typical withdrawal effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, fever, chills, diarrhea, anxiety and rebound pain. ## Day 12 now... I have been on Fentanyl 100mcg/hr, In vivo delivery of 100mcg/hr for 72 hours and I change them every 2 days instead of every 3 days so the amount of medication doesn't drop too low. I am wondering how the withdrawal is with this drug. How severe, how long it takes to get out of your system and if there is another drug used to help with the weaning? Does one need to be hospitalized & under a doctors care? There are also other drugs involved- Hydromorphone 8mg,2 every 4 hrs,Tizanidine 4mg 2/4 times daily,& Baclofen 10 mg 1 twice a day. ## Ask your doctor about Suboxone. it is a truly miracle pill. you will have absolutely no problem at all going through withdrawal, i personally know for a fact that suboxin will supress all symptoms and will keep you energized, like youve neve...

If a person is not getting enough Fentanyl in the prescribed patch, will they experience withdrawal symptoms? ## That's hard to say, were you switched to the FTC from some other opioid? Is the dosage equivalent to your former opioid. If not then yes, you will have W/Ds from this sudden drop in dosage strength. Inside the FTD box is a very comprehensive PI that includes an equivalency chart for other opioids, have a look at it and if you are being under-Rx'ed, show it to your Dr. so that he will increase your dosage strength. FTD, on it's own, will not produce W/Ds . . . Q ## It is possible to experience withdrawal symptoms anytime your dosage is suddenly lowered, or a medication is withdrawn. When it comes to an opiate, like Fentanyl, the FDA warns that the possible withdraw...

has anyone else had on going pins/a nd needles/tension/tremors after many weeks of detox? I was on 100mg fentanyl patch/benzos for spazms/and oxy 40mg a day for BT pain. I detoxed at Michaels House, which was a joke,a s they were very inappropriate for a medically dependent patient, not a street drug user. They did not tell me about any on going symptoms like this, and my Kaiser doc is clueless ( he is the one how prescribed all of the opiates! ## why all the med.s u where abviously in pain! where did it go who told u to get off it? wrong route to detox..try somethig to get your anxiety down then wean slowly off that. ## Those can be typical withdrawal effects, according to the FDA. If you weren't tapered properly, it may take several months for them to fully go away. They also warn...

My mother was given a fentanyl patch (25mg/hr) after receiving radiation treatment for a cancerous tumour in her spine. When I discovered what a strong drug it was and that she was experiencing vertigo, I removed it immediately. I took this decision myself as I was unable to reach her doctor. She had worn the patch for just 36 hours. She had a peaceful night but has been shivering this morning. Could 36 hours of wearing a fentanyl patch be enough to give withdrawal symptoms? Is it okay for the withdrawal symptoms to die out on their own? I am still unable to reach her doctor. That is why I am posting these questions. I would be grateful for any advice. ## It is a very potent medication, over 80 times stronger than Morphine. However, I think taking it upon yourself to remove it may not h...

I've been on Fentanyl 100mch for over 7 yrs due to severe Neuropathic Pain in my right arm as well as Spinal Stenosis in my lower back. I also take Ultram 50mg for increased night pain. Due to an insurance issue it's been 8 days since my last patch. I feel no withdrawal symptoms. No dizziness, no nausea, no increased anxiety or sleep problems. I don't even feel an increased pain level. Is it too soon for symptoms, or does my body process Fentanyl differently? ## Hello, Kaasan! How are you? Some people don't, though we don't know why, but some people can just stop some medications like this and not experience withdrawals, or their symptoms are so mild that they aren't problematic. Are you still doing well? As listed by the FDA, the typical withdrawal side effects ...

I'm so aware of the returning withdrawal symptoms since I dropped down from 1/2 strip to 1/4 strip of Suboxone. Is it the closer you get to being done with the Subs the stronger the withdrawal symptoms occur? I've been on the 1/4 strip for 8 days now. I haven't been able to sleep, constant turning, weird leg feelings. I don't want to go up a 1/4 as I need off of it! I've been on this crap since end of Feb. when I was detoxed from Fentanyl 25 mcg and Percocet. These were prescribed, after numerous surgeries since 2005. They may be able to help you with some ideas on how to alleviate some of the symptoms. ## I've been on 150 mcg of fentenyl, yes that means two patches at the same time. Finally weaned off the fentanyl patch this week. It's been 6 days. As I was weaning my craving/ need for Norco has increased. I'm trying next to wean off the Norco 10/325 6 a day but having a very tough time both pain wise and withdrawal wise. Clonidine has helped but not much. How long does it take for Norco to get out of your system and what helps with the WD symptoms. This all stared after 3 back surgeries and has been going on for 7 years. ## Hello, John! How are you doing? When coming off of opiates, it is normal to experience withdrawal symptoms, which can include rebound pain. As listed by the FDA, you may also experience nausea, fever, chills and diarrhea. There's really nothing else that will specifically help with the withdrawal symptoms, except for tapering very s...

i have been on fentanyl 25mcg for about a yr. i am decreasing to 12.5 mcg for a week and then no more patches after. how long will it take to considering the info. will it take for the withdrawal to start and stop. i understand everyone is different. i will be taking valium 5mg for a couple days to ease the effects. any info would be great. ## Yes, everyone is different, so it really makes it hard to say, because it is going to vary. I stopped heavy doses of Oxycodone and Morphine cold turkey, after being on them for about 6 or 7 years for pain management and my withdrawal symptoms lasted for about a month. Hopefully the Valium will help. Has your doctor given you any other advice? ## Thanks for ur info. Several yrs ago I stopped fiorcet w codeine (on it for 4 yrs) and it took about tha...
