I have nighttime acid reflux mostly. The ranitidine works to keep my acid lower but I get very vivid dreams. I try occasional Gaviscon but all these antacids with artificial sugars give me bad gas and are bad for you. They say tums and other antacids would taste too chalky w/o the sorbitol? Too much baking soda is bad for your kidneys... PPIs are generally bad for you. My head is elevated and I don't have any food or drinks for 3 hrs. before bed. Any ideas on a safe antacid for nighttime GERD? ## Hi Trish, Sorry to hear about your condition with GERD. My dad has a similar problem and also doesn't eat or drink a few hours before bedtime. He was also searching for an alternative and I found a natural product containing apple cider vinegar and raw manuka honey that solves his acidi...

Is it safe to take antacids, and staten medication with nitrofurant macro ## Hi Puba, I haven't come across any specific details notating that you can't use nitrofurantoin with statin medication. However Walgreens' drug monograph for nitrofurantoin strongly advises against taking any type of antacid that contains "magnesium trisilicate" with it. From what I've read, apparently the magnesium can impact how well nitrofurantoin is absorbed. Their statement goes on to mention that you should double check with a pharmacist in order to ensure whether or not a particular antacid has this ingredient prior to purchasing. Did your doctor recommend that all three types of medications be taken together? ## Thank yiu. No my doctor did not mention taking all 3 together. I do h...

Can I take tums antacid while on Augmentin 875-125???? ## Hello, Brandi! How are you? Yes, but you should be careful to take them about 2 hours apart, unless your doctor or pharmacist instructs otherwise. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this antibiotic as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

brown and white capsule...I didn't see any markings but took one for having gas... ## Without knowing the markings, it is impossible to say for sure what it was, but yes, there are some antacids on the market that match that descriptions, as well as many other medications. It could have also been a laxative or a vitamin. Do you know if it was supposed to be a prescription or over the counter item?

Prescribed Flagyl and Cipro for Diverticulitis. The metal taste is awful but I can deal with it and the nausea. What I can't deal with is the burning pains in my stomach... Has anyone else experienced pain/burning in their stomach? ## Hello, Rosie! How are you? Have you tried any antacids to help? While it is best to stay away from ones such as Tums or Rolaids, while taking an antibiotic, you can usually take others, such as Pepcid or Prilosec, as long as your doctor approves. The FDA lists other side effects of these medications as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and diarrhea. Is taking Omeprazole contraindicated while taking nitrofuran monohyd macro 100 mg? One of the warnings in the information sheet provided for the medication is to "not use magnesium trisilicate-containing antacids while taking this medication." ## Hi Diane, Based on my research there actually aren't any drug interactions listed between those two medications 'in and of themselves'. However, if Omeprazole tablets do contain "magnesium trisilicate" as an inactive ingredient (which I've read that it does from several searches), then it would probably be best to play it safe and adhere to those packaging guidelines; unless of course your doctor instructs you to do otherwise for one reason or another. Is this your first time having to use either of these medicat...

Which combination solve the best for stomach discomfort and belching? 1) antacids (mylanta, magtasil, aromag, hydrosil tablet) 2) PPIs (omeprazole) 3) H2 blockers (ranitidine, famotidine) 4) Meteospasmyl, domperidone Doctor prescribed me with Magtasil, DomperidoneandOmeprazole. But I still feel too much gas in the stomach and cause me to belch a lot. I was thinking to replace Magtasil with Hydrosil tablet as it contains Simethicone that's used to help to break the gas bubbles. My question 1) Can I take Hydrosil withOmeprazoleandDomperidone? 2) Any side effects? ## I did not find drug interactions listed between Hydrosil (Simethicone) and Omeprazole. I was taking qualitest alprazalam t (generic) last night and it got caught in my throat and so I crushed it with my teeth and when I swallowed it was like a jalapeno, pure fire, and it burned for several minutes...I drank water, a lot, and it just kept burning...What can I do...Jim ## In the future, you should make sure to take all pills with a full, 8 ounce glass of water, to try to prevent that from happening. Crushing it with your teeth is never a good idea, as you've experienced. If you have trouble swallowing them and they aren't time released, it is safe to cut them in half to make it easier on yourself. As to the burning now, what else have you tried? Have you consulted a doctor? Since most tablets tend to be very acidic, a few days of antacids that can help soothe the ir...

Why is it that taking pepto bismo causes me to have frequent urination just about every hour at night time? I also take Lipitor, Avapro, Metformin, Januvia and Actos. ## Lipitor interacts with antacids. My father has the same problem, plus nausea and stomach problems. Going to doctor to try and get him off it. Liptor from what I've been studying is not a very good, or useful, drug for most people. From what I've read, it only helps 1-3% of people. Hello friends! I am suffering from stomach pain directly in the stomach area in between ribs/breasts. I have nausea and vomiting now for over 1 week. I went to the ER and they did an ultrasound plus a CT Scan with contrast and everything came back normal. Needless to say I was sent home in the same excruciating pain that I went in with. Nothing will give me relief of this pain and according to my test results performed in the hospital, they don't see anything wrong. I am scared and need help and or any ideas? Thank you! ## Hello, Ruth! How are you doing? Has there been any change? Have you consulted a gastroenterologist? I have been taking neurontin for 3 mnths with no side effects but the other day I had citra soda and was sick the following a.m with the runs and nausea! I hadn't eaten anything out of the ordinary but felf ill at the thought of eating anything I had eaten the day before. Stomach cramps and lethargy? I seem to recall that you can't mix neurontin with antacid meds?? ## The reason for the warning about taking antacids with Neurontin is due to the fact that it can cause your body to absorb less of the Neurontin than usual, so it may not be as effective. It is recommended they be taken, at least 2 hours apart. It should not, however, cause the types of symptoms that you've experienced. Have you contacted your doctor?
