I had a sever reaction. My legs became inflamed and swollen. I was very ill. Would the NitroFur Mac cause this type of problem? Thank you.

can i use macrodantin for an infection i have in my gumes ## Macrodantin contains the active ingredient Nitrofurantoin, so it is an antibiotic, but it's most commonly used to treat urinary tract infections. Have you had a doctor, or dentist confirm that it's an infection? If it is, you might require a different antibiotic to properly treat it.

I took this twice in a row at 2:00. Is that okay? Also, is it okay to take one tomorrow morning and then 1 at night? ## Hi Mary, I just took a look at the dosing guidelines for this medication, and it states that Nitrofurantoin monohydrate/macrocrystals capsulesÂshould be taken with food every 12 hours for seven days. Because of that strict 12 hour gap in between doses, I definitely wouldn't say it is ok to take them back to back like that. Schedule your doses so that you take 1 in the morning when you get up and one a couple hours before you go to bed (giving yourself enough time to leave you with 12 hours before the following morning dose). I have difficulty swallowing large pills or capsules. I removed the three small pills from the capsule, crushed them, and swallowed them with jelly. Is there any problem with this method? ## This is a sustained release formulation of the medication and should not be opened and crushed in this manner, as it may result in too much of the medication being released at once. I am 15 weeks pregnant I was put on this medication for a UTI 2 capsules a day for 7 days I took 3 doses and didn't think much about mood changes because of being pregnant, after 4th dose I experienced severe vomiting, at the same time my nose was gushing blood, and I became extremely confused and unable to speak anything that made sence, I read possible side effects some included unusual bleeding confusion mood or mental changes severe vomiting. Is there a difference between Nitrofurantoin Mono/Mac 100 mg capsules and Nitrofurantoin Macro 100 mg capsules? The former is black and yellow with E122 on the front while the latter is gray with Mylan1700 on both sides. ## From what I could gather, both of the pills in question are one in the same drug. I had a urinary tract infection and the culture report found that it was an e. coli infection. ABST revealed that it was resistant to nitrofurantoin and ciprofloxacin. My doctor put me on cefixim for 10 days. It has apparently gone away but I fear a relapse. I also take cranberry capsules (4) and 750-1000mg of vit. C. and drink a lot of water. Should I have continued with cefixime for a longer period to achieve a complete cure? it a small blue pill has the numbers 340 on one side and the number 100 on the other side ## Is this from the U.S. or elsewhere? Did you get it from a pharmacy or was it obtained somewhere else? The reason I am asking, is because I can't find a pill with that description and marking in any of our U.S. prescription drug resources. When taking prescribed antibiotics and the dosage is 1 pill twice a day, how many hours should before the next dosage? ## Hi Dman, Based on a 24 hour time scale, if you're required to take 1 pill twice daily, that "generally" means taking 1 pill every twelve hours. However I would recommend double checking this with your doctor first, in case he or she has special instructions for your individual case. can i dissolve macrobid in water, or oil or fruit juice for my dog . what will it disolve it the best? ## Hi Reta, Based on my research, Macrobid (nitrofuratoin) is used in dogs typically for resistant urinary tract infections. A far as dissolving the medication goes, it would probably break down well in lemon juice or anything of the sort. I would dilute it with some water after dissolving it in the juice though, just so it doesn't taste as acidic.
