Can I take it apart and crush up the inside and mix it with something then give it to her. ## I am currently taking the same prescription, and I break apart the pills inside and take them in much smaller pieces. Last thursday I went to the doctor & they told me I have a UTI. They put me on Nitrofurantoin 2 pills a day for 7 days. I am on my 6th day and I still have to urinate a lot and there is just some discomfort not as bad as before. It doesn't hurt at all when I urinate like it did. light yellow, 50mg. I have developed a very itchy rash on my arms, I have open sores and they burn like a shingles blister. I think it is this med. Has anyone else had this kind of reaction? It is making my skin lumpy and they are unbearably itchy. I have blood stains on my sheets and pillowcases due to scratching in the night while asleep. ## Have you contacted your doctor? A non-allergic skn rash can be a normal side effect, but this really sounds like a more serious problem than that and you might need to switch to a different medication.

My mother was given nitro furmac as result of several UTI infections year after year. Thinking the UTI was worsening and meds weren't working just yet, we didn't realize what was happening. She actually became non-responsive and had a stroke. All due to reaction of nitro furmac. Now on bactrim daily as a preventive antibiotic for infections.
