Neurontin Gabapentin

Gabapentin, sold under the brand name Neurontin among others, is an anticonvulsant medication primarily used to treat partial seizures and neuropathic pain.[5][6] It is a first-line medication for the treatment of neuropathic pain caused by diabetic neuropathy, postherpetic neuralgia, and central pain.[7] It is moderately effective: about 30-40% of those given gabapentin for diabetic neuropathy or postherpetic neuralgia have a meaningful benefit...

my sister is prescribed this and she is nodding out and stuff but she is also taking Clonazepam 1.0 mg i need details to give her about the drug that is negative to make her stop taking it plus what does a long term of pill taking do to u plz help... ## It is the Clonazepam that is making her nod off. This is a highly used anti-anxiety drug and will make an elephant sleepy - even on a low dose. ## Neurontin is used to help prevent seizures, and to treat certain types of nerve pain. Its side effects may include nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, mood changes, and weight changes. Both it, and the Clonazepam could be causing her to nod off, depending on the dosages she is taking. Taking them together could even worsen the side effects experienced. How long has she been taking them, and how muc...

I have been taking the above for approx 4 months . I have been cutting down to 1 a day over two weeks and not taken any for the last few days . I am feeling very nauseous since doing this could this be connected. ## Hello, Darbie! How are you? Yes, that was a pretty rapid taper, so withdrawal effects, such as nausea, dizziness and diarrhea are to be expected. Why did you stop taking it? Have you been having a problem with the medication? ## Stopped taking cos I have been having tummy problems also for about 6 months on and off. Scans Cts you name it and they can't find out why. So tried stopping all Meds to see if it helped.

Are there any other drugs that can be substituted for neurontin for neuropathy? ## Have been taking Lyrica for 3 years for perifiral (sp?) neuropathy. Would like to get off this med and try one of the neuropathy formulas I've been reading about on-line. However, I think I have to get off Lyrica slowly - not all at once. I guess it wouldn't be safe to take the supplement while still taking 2 Lyrica daily???? ## Gabapentin works wonders for me. It is generic for neurotoxin. ## I have been taking Gabapentin for 6 years for back pain. I am concerned about the memory loss I have been experiencing and would like to find a substitute. ## Unfortunately, the other medication in this class, Pregabalin, can also cause the same side effects, including being forgetful, along with nausea, diz...

For various reasons I suffer from Spinal Stenosis, Herniated Disc in Cervical area of spine, also suffered a broken tailbone. I suffer from terrible nerve pain in my pelvic area, neck, down my legs and spine. My dr. has recently put me on 50mg fentayl patch. I also take Gabapintin. These still are only controling about 59% of my pain and if I do something to aggravate my injuries I sometimes get screaming pain. A friend recommended Methadone in conjunction with what I'm taking. I have taken Oxycontin, Oxycodone in high doses so my tolerance is very high. Can anyone tell me if adding Methodone to my other meds would help and if it could be risky--as far as overdosing etc..? ## I doubt that Methadone will help you, since the Fentanyl that you are already using is far stronger than Met...

I found some of these in a baggie, are they used for recreation or do they have any kind of effect that would make someone take them that do not have the prescription ## Neurotion is not a recreactional drug. It is used primarily for Seizures but has alternate uses. It will not produce a high of any kind. ## Then I do not understand why would they be kept in a baggie next to other stuff ## Neurontin gives no effects of getting high. It is also prescribed for chronic pain. I don't know all the details but if it is a teen and they thought the pills were for pain they might be thinking that the pills are in the opiate category to get high which is a total misconception. This drug can be dangerous if not used correctly. I personally took it for pain and found no relief so my Dr. kept in...

I have diabetes and neuropathy with severe pain in my hands, feet, and legs. My doctor has prescribed Neurontin for me for the last 2 years and says it will take away the pain I am having. He has also prescribed hydrocodone for the pain. When I am out of hydrocodone the neurontin does not take away any of the pain I am having. But my doctor insists that it will. Should I keep taking it or should I stop. It seems like it does not do anything for me. Thank You Very Much DONALD BURKS ## Hi Domald Burks, how much do you take a day? This is important as long term use of gabapentin can be difficult to stop taking especially at higher doses. You are diabetic, are you on a magnesium restricted diet? If not you could supplement your diet with magnesium rich foods or take a magnesium supplement. ...

Recently my dosage has been increased from 300mg to 600mg.Getting crampy calf muscles and pins and needle sensations in my feet and hands.Any ideas out there, can this Drug cause this? ## Hello, Jamesie! How are you? It is normal to experience more side effects, when going to a higher dosage of a medication. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and mood swings. However, side effects are usually transient and should go away in a few weeks, once your body gets used to a new medication. If they get severe or linger after about 4 to 6 weeks, you should consult your doctor. Is there anything else I can help with?

Could you tell me all of the ingredients, including all supplements, that are found in the medication known as Neurontin. I had a terrible reaction to Neurontin 8 years ago, when I was prescribed Neurontin for muscle spasms that I suffered in my legs, from a back Injury. I now have neuropathy from that back injury and nerve damage. I am interested in trying Nerve Renew, and another supplement, but I want to make sure there are no ingredients found in the products that are found in Neurontin? I do not want to end up in the hospital again. ## Hi Ron, Neurontin is actually the generic name for Gabapentin. The only other types of ingredients outside of this are binders/fillers that vary depending upon which manufacturer's version you're taking. If you happen to have a Neurontin tabl...

Does this go away in time? (It's about 4 hours since I took it and I feel less drowsy although I don't think I would droive my car.) ## Hello, Pikov! How are you? Neurontin is an anticonvulsant that can also help with certain types of nerve pain. Drowsiness can be a normal side effect, along with nausea, dizziness, weight changes and mood swings. Yes, it should taper off in severity, after about 4 to 6 weeks, once your body adjusts to the medication. Is there anything else I can help with? ## At this point, I'm up to 2400 mg/day. Is depakote similar to neurontin? Can an individual just abruptly stop taking this mood stabilizer because they feel they don't need it without replacing it with something else? Does this cause weight gain? ## They both treat the same types of conditions and no, you shouldn't stop either one abruptly, because it could create the risk of seizures. Stopping one doesn't usually cause weight gain, but it can be a side effect of taking them. Other side effects may include nausea, mood swings and dry mouth. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Just needing to know if Depakote and Neurontin work basically the same? I realize neither should be stopped abruptly. I am in Recovery for 8 years 7 months from a severe opiate addiction. I abused painkillers for nearly ten years. I underwent rapid opiate detox. I was given Neurontin upon discharge for the residual withdrawal to combat agitation, mood swings, irritability etc; After 30 days, the rx ran out and I didn't see the need to refill it. After all, it wasn't giving me instant gratification. However, when I stopped taking it, I began go from crying uncontrollably to dangerous road rage to nearly killing my husband throwing a blender at his head. So I went back on it. I've been on it for almost 9 years. I have never abused it or taken more than prescribed. If anything I've titrated down or taken less but have never been able to get off. Two doctors that know of my history of addic...
