I recently had transposition of ulnar nerve, about a month ago. I am in horrible, chronic pain. Neurontin does not seem to be working. My pain management dr mentioned Topamax. How do I deal with this constant nerve pain. It is in my left hand, little finger and ring finger. ## I am very sorry about what you're dealing with, nerve pain is terrible. What is your current dose of Neurontin? You might do better with the Topomax, if your doctor thinks you should try it. It does work well for many people. Its typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, alopecia, anemia, and anorexia. Are you on any other medications?

i have been suffering from pain in my legs approx from 2 months and its feel horrible when anything hits him or anyone touch that part and its gives different sensation and feel like current is flowing in that part and gives soo much pain which is unbearable sooo what should i do to cure it. ## Hello, Spidey! How are you doing? Has there been any change? According to most NIH reports, these symptoms can be caused by nerve damage. Are you diabetic? Are you on any other medications? I think the best thing to do would be to consult a doctor to get to the root of the problem. Do you have any diagnosed medical conditions?

Hi, I have severe Nerve pain caused by Pudendal Neuralgia. I won't take Endone because of the constipation it causes which makes the Nerve pain worse. I have just been given Targin as we are running out oh options. I also take Tegretol and Lyrica at the highest doses and they do nothing! ## Hello, Sheila! How are you? Targin is listed as containing Oxycodone and Naloxone, so you may experience better results with it. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Have you tried it, yet? ## Hi all. Please advise how many times you can have hernia repairs done? Previously I had nine repairs recently, I had it done and a mesh was put in...

What is better for nerve pain - Neurontin or Lyrica? I had surgery in both knees and an injection in my back. I also have osteoarthritis. ## Hello, Brenda! How are you? They have both been shown to be effective for some people, but the only way to see which one helps you is by trying one. They are both classified by the FDA as anticonvulsants that are approved to treat nerve pain and some mood disorders. Their typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight gain. Which one has your doctor recommended? ## Hi, Brenda; it may have taken me a while to come across your post but pregabalin (patent brand Pfizer LYRICA) is over twice the potency of gabapentin (Pfizer NEURONTIN). I personally can take neither - I was prescribed and titrated up to the m...

My doctor gave me a sample pack and a prescription for metanx because he thought it could help me nerve pain. But he said there were no side effects. Do you think this will be helpful? ## Hello, Mary! How are you? The FDA classifies Metanx as a medical food, it contains nutrients that are believed to help support nerve health and minimize nerve pain. Thus, there are no commonly known side effects for it, other than possibly nausea, since it is rather potent. Have you tried it, yet? ## I can check. Thanks so much. There has to be something. ## I have not.. Thanks so much. Tried a lot of meds. Trying to get away from opoids. ## METANX definitely works for sciatica! We get samples of it where I work and nothing helps when I get sciatica. I tried the Metanx and 2 hours later, the burning, p...

Does anyone know if Suboxone works for nerve pain and how much does it cost a month ## Hello, Karen! How are you? Some people get good results taking it for pain, but not all, it varies from person to person. As to the cost, unfortunately, that can vary greatly from area to area and pharmacy to pharmacy, as well, so I can't quote you a price. The FDA classifies it as an opiate, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## It varies but currently in the Southern CA area it's going for anywhere from $220-260. I get mine for $240. With a Manufacture Discount Coupon you can get at suboxone.com it brings it down to $186. This is for 30 Films a month.

a really good drug for nerve pain is neourotin or gapabentin (same thing) i may be spelling wrong. but it does wonders. your welcome. ## I am starting to wonder what is wrong with me even more because Gabapintin 600mgs does nothing at all for my pain from a frostbitten foot compounded by electrical shock while standing in some water while plugging up a buffer from a 220 volt socket Plus for some reason doctors here in Indianapolis don't have a clue as how to treat my problem. I wonder why none of them offered me any of the first medication you talked about ## It did nothing for my nerve pain too. It also made me crazy with brain zaps. ## As with any medication, Neurontin (Gabapentin) does not work for everyone that tries it. We are all different, so what works well for one person mi...

Hi, since 2 weeks I have pain in left-side of my neck. Feels like a nerve somewhere in neck is paining. I cannot bend my neck fully on left side as i can on right side. moreover when i rotate my neck clockwise or anticlockwise direction, my neck pains whenever i come to leftside. The pain further navigates to left shoulder & towards left hemisphere of my head. Can u suggest something ## Have you seen a doctor for this? If not, you really should. Neck pain isn't something you should try to self-treat or self-diagnose, because it can stem from a head injury, or affect the nerves radiating into the brain.

Is Lyrica beneficial for nerve pain? ## I just got diagnosed with torm muscles and severe nerve damage to scapula after 4 1/2 yrs of being a lab-rat, after a work related injury. The specialist put me on Lyrica only a few days ago. I not am not sure what to think of it yet as I feel like I am floating in mid-air and feel like I have a permanent huge hangover. It has been impossible for me to concentrate on anything, including conversations. Although I have more energy, I feel like I am forcing myself to stay awake. This is the worse feeling I have ever had, especially when my pain level has not decreased. This is the strongest and I must say strangest medication I have ever had, I hope they find an alternative for me. ## Lyrica contains the active ingredient Pregabalin. This is an antic...

i have been on Accutane for three months now, first two on 20mg and started the 3rd month on 40mg. After upping the dose, I got severe nerve pain in my mouth, initially I thought it was my teeth so I went to the dentist and discovered it wasn't my teeth nor gums (which was a bonus) however the pain lasted on and off for over a week which I can only describe as an intermittent electric shock feeling which painkillers have not helped with. I have tried contacting my Dermatologist but have had no response. Has anyone else had this as a side effect? ## Hello, Catherine! How are you? Yes, that can be a side effect of this medication, as reported by the U.S. FDA. You may also experience nausea, skin rash, abdominal pain, diarrhea and depression. Has anyone else that's taken it experie...

I have been prescribed this drug today due to having painful nerve endings in the face.Is this a good drug for this type of pain?I need something to stop the pain.Fingerscrossed ## Well this was originally approved as an antidepressant, which later was found to help with some types of nerve pain. Whether it will help you or not, is something that no one can guess. These types of medications are great for some people, and don't work at all for others. All you can do is try it for a couple of weeks and see if it helps you. ## Sharon - I hope you read this. If you divide your face into 4 quarters, from ear to ear thru your nose and from chin to your fore head thru your nose, and you find that your pain is in one of these quarters there is a good chance you suffer from trigeminal neural...

Hi. Has anyone experienced nerve pain with Ozempic? I noticed last week that I was having nerve pain in my cheek, which is not unusual for me as I have neuralgia after suffering an aneurysm. However, now it's spread to my ears, both sides of my face and into my neck. If anyone has had nerve issues, do they go away after stopping the use of Ozempic? ## I took Wegovy for 5 weeks and stopped because it was causing constipation. Now 2 months after stopping I feel like I’m getting pings in my abdomen- maybe nerve pain. I have to take miralax to help me go to the bathroom. I’m feeling these drugs are not all they are cracked up to be. Going for bloodwork and sonogram to investigate. Anyone else having side effects with Wegovy? ## Mirella, have you consulted your doctor? Since ...

I started taking Amoxicillin earlier this week for a throat infection. About 2 or 3 days after I started taking it, I started to develop jaw pain that comes and goes. Somebody told me it was just nerve pain. Has anyone else ever experienced anything like this while taking Amoxicillin? ## Hey Amanda, sorry to hear about the jaw pain you're having. I don't know if it could be related to nerve damage or not, but I just wanted to inform you that I have come across studies from ehealthme indicating that jaw pain was associated with the use of Amoxicillin in 411 out of 22,270 patients. So although relatively less common, it does appear to be a possibility. Amoxicillin also lists joint pain/inflammation, swollen lymph glands (nodes underneath the jaw), and difficulty with swallowing on...

I have been taking Gabapintin (Neurontin) for fibromyalgia pain. Although it has worked well I have gained close to 35 pounds. Does anyone know of a anti-nerve pain pill that does not cause weight gain. ## There is really no way a doctor or anyone else can know ahead of time how any medication can affect anyone. They can only assume that it will be effective based on medical records, current health, age, what the condition is, whether or not any other medications are being taken at the same time, etc. Any of these factors as well as others can affect how you respond to this drug. Personally, I think if you are able to do so, that a significant change in diet and exercise habits would prove to be effective. From what I can tell, the medication you are taking may cause cravings and/or pro...

My nerve is damage due to leprosy so my doctor advised me to take neugaba 75mg. I have taken this medicine before for 8 months but have not gotten any relief. I have tingling in my leg. What else can I do? Is neugaba 75 safe for me or not? ## If it didn't work for you before, it isn't likely to work for you, now. The NIH lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings, and weight gain. Are you on any other medications? How often has your doctor told you to take this one?

I was started on Warfarin in May 2016. Dx: Pericarditis w Afib. Mid July 2016, I had a ruptured foot tendon accompanied by severe nerve pain in feet & tingling in my lips. I spoke with the doctor on call & was told it could not be the Warfarin. In June 2017, the joint & nerve pain & toe pain became so severe that I stopped the Warfarin & started Nattokinase. Yes I have been on Metoprolol & realize that can have the same side effects, but my question is specific to Warfarin. Thank you for having this great chat line. ## Yes, those can be side effects of Warfarin, according to FDA reports. It may also cause nausea, dizziness, increased risk of bleeding, and easy bruising. As to Nattokinase, that is just a supplement, so it has not been tested and proven to help wit...

I was on Metoprolol XR for 6 months, the most consistent dose was 50 mg once/day. I had many of the common side effects - fatigue, headaches, muscle pain - but the most distressing has been the cold hands and feet along with an intense burning feeling along the nerves in my arms, legs and face. I tapered off over the last month I was on it, but the nerve pain seems worse. I have been completely off the med for only 3 days now. Has anyone experienced this? Does it get better or am I doomed? I'm only 33 with 2 young boys. I would like to be able to enjoy them! ## Hello, Melissa! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem you had from this medication. Yes, if it was solely due to the Metoprolol, it should go away entirely, but it may take a couple of weeks to fully taper off. Th...

I've noticed that when I don't eat, I'm not hungry, but when I start eating, I could eat a whole Thanksgiving Turkey myself! I'm staying very aware of portion control and how my body reacts. I am afraid to discuss options for pain management with the hand surgeon I see this morning. I am so uncomfortable and have had oxycodone before but was curious if that is normal for severe nerve pain or if the have other options. Just want to be comfortable until surgery ## Oxycodone is commonly the preferred option for severe pain, because it is known to very effective and it can be used in some fairly high dosages. Learn more Oxycodone information here. When are you having the surgery?

Has anyone had amitriptyline for nerve pain? I want to come off them, but I’m concerned the nerve pain will return. Has anyone had any experience with this? ## There is a chance that the pain may return, if you stop abruptly, sudden withdrawal could result in a rebound effect, where they pain might be even worse than it was to begin with. The NIH lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood changes, dry mouth, and weight changes. Why do you want to stop taking them? ## At the beginning I felt so pleased when the tablets kicked in. I started at 25 mg and eventually increased to 75 mg. All was going well. I get the usual side effects, but no real problems. I’ve been on them for about 6 years. The reason I want to come off, is because a...
