At the suggestion of a hotel doctor I bought Azitromicina 500mg for the treatment of a chest infection in MX. Tried to submit a claim for the cost via my US insurance as they say they reimburse worldwide RX expenses. But now they want the 11 digit 'national drug code' or no payout. I checked the FDA NDC database but: 1. it states all NDC's are 10 digit and: 2. obviously this is not a US product and therefore not in there. How can I find what I need to get my costs back? It is Zertalin Azitromicina 500mg (Collins Farmaceuticos) 6 tablets in a white jar with silver/black/blue label. The pharmacist 'said' it was a 2 course pack for 3 days I.E. 1 tablet per day for 3 days (2 courses contained). Is this correct also? I usually have known ZPak or Azithromycin to be 2 on th...

Are there any warnings or adverse effects from this China-manufactured generic drug? I'm fearful of taking it; and was unable to convince my pharmacy to pursue or supply a U.S. manufactured drug. ## Regardless of where it is manufactured, any given medication must meet the same safety and efficacy standards, in order for the FDA to approve of it being supplied and made available in the U.S. The typical side effects of this medication are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension, the same as the others available. Is there anything else I can help with?

This is the Ndc # for Watson's Metronidazole. Is this drug still good? It's 250mg and it expired in 2015. ## If it is in a bottle as dispensed by your pharmacy, and not the original sealed manufacturers container, then the expiration would have been in 2016. It does not become dangerous after it expires, but it does begin to lose efficacy, thus the best thing to do would be to dispose of it and see your doctor for a new prescription. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this antibiotic as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain, and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

At the suggestion of a hotel doctor I bought Salbutamol inhaler in MX to replace my empty asthma inhaler due to a chest infection. I checked the FDA NDC database but: 1. it states all NDC's are 10 digit and: 2. obviously this is not a US product and therefore not in there. How can I find what I need to get my costs back? It is Salbutamol 100 mcg aerosol inhaler made by QUIFA Farmacia. Don't have the box but it is a white inhaler unit with a dark navy blue mouthpiece cap. ## Yes, I don't understand that, since all NDC codes are 10 digits and I don't know how to find it for a foreign product. Can I take Doxycycline 100 mg tablets if I have a sulfa allergy? ## Hi Carol, according to an article I read from the Mayo Clinic, Doxycycline is not listed as a sulfa drug, so you should be okay to take it as prescribed. I also cross referenced the Wikipedia page on Sulfonamides, and it too did not list Doxycycline. If you have other allergies or sensitivities, I'd just double check the inactive ingredients as well to ensure that there is nothing else in there that could disagree with you. If you can refer to the National Drug Code (NDC) printed on your prescription label it should be pretty easy to find the list of inactive ingredients. I hope this helps and feel free to write back!

Can anyone please give me the AE (american equivalent) number for "Zinnat" which is apparently the foreign name for "Ceftin" that was made by Glaxo Smith Kline? ## Please correct me if I'm wrong, but there's no such thing as an "American equivalent drug number" - at least to my knowledge. Are you referring to a National Drug Code (NDC)? If so, one would need to know more pill information such as the shape, color, imprint, etc., in order to begin a deeper investigation that would take into account both the active as well as the inactive ingredients for a closer comparison. NOTE: Ceftin contains the active ingredient Cefuroxime, an antibiotic which is available in America by prescription-only. I hope this helps! ## Hi David, according to my insurance compan...

I was told that the company Allergan is making a codeine with promethazine cough syrup previously manufactured by actavis is this true? ## @Mike, According to Allergan's product page (linked below), they do make Promethazine HCL (6.25 mg) + Codeine Phosphate (10 mg) syrup listed under the "Actavis Rx Product Catalog" on page 27 here: allergan.com/Actavis/media/PDFDocuments/2013_US_Rx_Product_Catalog.pdf. Based on the information in that link I think you're right that the formula could've been acquired from Actavis. And for further verification, the syrup in question also carries the following National Drug Codes of 00472-1627-04 and 00472-1627-16. I was prescribed a Z-Pak (Azithromycin, 250 mg) and pseudoephedrine hydrochloride (60 mg) on a cruise and now my insurance company wants the American equivalent drug numbers for them. ## I think you are talking about the NDC number. It is a seven digit number - and the easiest is to do a search on internet of the medication and dosage - ie: Zithromycin 250 mgm and you should get all sorts of results. ## Yes, if they want the National Drug Code number for them, it is going to vary depending on the manufacturer, dosage, and etc. You can learn more about NDC numbers here from the FDA, and access a directory. Can you provide any further details on the medications you were prescribed, such as markings on them? Manufacturers names, or etc.? The FDA lists the typical side effects of these med...

It has a National Drug Code of 0603 4998 21. What percocet is this? Pictures plz. ## Hello, Gata! How are you? According to the NDC database, that is the 5/325 dosage manufactured by the former Vintage Pharmaceuticals. I apologize that I don't have a picture to post for you. However, they describe it as being a pink, elliptical/oval pill with a stylized V on one side and the numbers 4825 on the other side. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
