I've had severe chronic pain for years. Pain dr. Gave me 7.5/325 hydrocodone. I have hep c and chronic anemia. I don't want either tylenol or Ib.. what can I ask for that has none of those and is stronger? Would a fentanyl patch work? ## Hello, Andrea! How are you feeling? Fentanyl is the strongest narcotic available, so it may not be wise to jump straight to it, because that's not going to leave you anywhere to go in the future, once you build up a tolerance. Learn more Fentanyl details here. There are several others that are stronger and don't contain NSAIDs. One would be Oxycodone, which is available in instant release, regular release and time released formulations. Learn more Oxycodone details here. There's also Morphine, Dilaudid and Opana. I have diverticulitis is there anything I can take that does not contain acetaminophen for pain ## Hello, Missy! How are you? Yes, there are many available that don't contain Acetaminophen. Some examples in the opiate category include Oxycodone, Zohydro, Dilaudid, Morphine and Opana. The FDA classifies these mediations as narcotic analgesics, so they have the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. All of these require a prescription from your doctor, plus there are also non-narcotic options you can discuss with them. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have severe and chronic skeletal pain. Have been taking Tramadol 50mg. the Acetaminophen has caused painful liver symptoms. Is there a pain medication that DO NOT have acetaminophen? ## Hello, Audrey! How are you? What have you been taking exactly? If it's just Tramadol 50mgs, then there is no Acetaminophen in it. If it contains Acetaminophen, then there should be a second dosage listed. That said, there are many options available that do not contain Acetaminophen, including Tramadol by itself, Oxycodone, Hydromorphone, Oxymorphone and Morphine. The FDA classifies these mediations as being narcotic analgesics, so they carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizzies, headache, constipation and dry mouth.

I need an extended relief med, I have Hep C so do not want any acetaminophen and all this info is coming from the pharmacist I need to find an alternative extended relief pain medication in lieu of morphine or anything with acetaminophen due to my Hep C liver condition; currently applying for disability and all of this is coming from the pharmacist not the actual doctor. ps I live in FL ## Hello, Beckie! How are you? There is a time released formulation of Oxycodone available that's called Oxycontin, which contains no Acetaminophen and there is also a time released pain patch available called Duragesic, which contains only the narcotic Fenantyl, so you may want to discuss these options with your doctor. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and ma...

I just got blood test results showing elevated liver ensymes. I take percodan 10/325 3xday. I also take fentanyl patch 25 every 48 hours. What meds could replace these in reguards to the elevated liver enzymes ? ## Hello, Trish! How are you? The elevated enzymes are most likely caused by the oral medication, not the patch, since it isn't processed directly through the liver. There are formulations of Oxycodone available without anything else added that your doctor can prescribe, so it won't have as much of an impact on your liver as the Percodan does. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. How high are your enzymes levels? ## My alt is 46 and ast is 5...

My question is: does Oxycodone come without acetaminophen and Tylenol? ## Hello, Sassie Massie! How are you? I'm very sorry that you're in pain. Tylenol is just a name brand for Acetaminophen, so they are the same thing. And yes, Oxycodone is available by itself in instant release, regular release and time released formulations. How are you? You should be able to take it, as long as your doctor approves. It would best not to combine them, without checking with your doctor, due to the fact that you may risk an overdose, if the dose higher than what you usually take. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. i am worried about taking this pill ## That is understandable, since there can be side effects when you use any medication. This one, in particular, contains the narcotic pain reliever Hydrocodone, couple with Acetaminophen. Common side effects that you may experience can include: nausea, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. If you use it as prescribed, the chances of having any problems is very small, most people use it quite successfully, without any serious issues. So you know what to watch for, in case you do run into a problem with it, signs of a serious reaction can include: erratic heartbeat, trouble breathing, swelling of lips or throat and itchy skin rash. Is it safe to take my pain meds (for my back injury) 2 days before I have a biopsy? Is it safe? Or is THAT considered an anti inflammatory medication? ## Hello, Kandy! How are you? No, this is not an anti-inflammatory. The FDA classifies it as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Thus, it should be fine, unless your doctor has instructed otherwise. Is there anything else I can help with? ## No thanks.....I went without it for the week. But thank you for answering my question. ## Having bilateral knee surgery in Two days is it OK to take hydrocodone\ acetaminophen before surgery won't increase chance of bleeding?

why does taking my hydrocodone/acetaminophen 5-325 TB before I go to sleep at night make me have less pain during the day? ## Apparently, it works very well for you, there's really no other explanation that can be given for this. Medications sometimes work better for some people than for others and it's usually matter of trial and error to find which one works best for you, without causing unwanted side effects. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it may carry the risk of being habit forming and could cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation. I was on Hydrocone for my migraine/tension headaches for 3 years my dr decided to stop prescribing pain meds to her patients. Now I'm at a loss NJ Is really cracking down. My new GP referred me to a neorologist and I was thinking about asking him about Fiorcet not Hydrocone but how do I ask without sounding like a addict? ## Hello, Lola! How are you? Fioricet contains a barbiturate, not a narcotic. It contains Butalbital, Acetaminophen and Caffeine. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, insomnia and nervousness. There should be no reason to worry about sounding like an addict. Just be honest about how bad they are and don't try to demand that he prescribed something. Is there anything else I can help with?

Hi my name is j athy and my dr. Put me on peracet without tylnol. I dont know why he did that. But i have Failed back syndrom. And i am in alot of pain all the time. What i need to know is is the pecaceit just as strong without the tylanol. It just seems like it is not helping as much with the pain. Waiting for an answer. ## Hello, Kathy! How are you? I'm very sorry that you're in pain. The Acetaminophen does augment the narcotic in some people that take it. Thus, if you're doctor wants you to take one without the Acetaminophen in it, you may need a higher dosage. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. However, since they are both narcotics that are coupled with Acetaminophen, it would be best not to mix them, without your doctor's approval. It could result in an overdose. The FDA warns that these medications have the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. On oxycodone-acetaminophen 10/325 4 times day. It was also combined with Fentanyl 100 every 72 hrs. I asked to be taken off Fentanyl as it's very expensive. My Dr prescribed then Methadone HCL 10 mg 2 tabs every 8 hrs. This combination doesn't work as well. What's my other choice? ## If the Oxycodone is helping, you may want to speak to your doctor about trying it, by itself. It's available in various doses, without the added Acetaminophen. Morphine is available in the time released formula and the generics for it as usually not too expensive. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. I want to take an opiate pain killer without acetaminophen, ibprofen, and naproxen because they are bad for your liver. How do I get a drug like that? Why do they put those other otc meds in the pain killer, when it hurts your liver/ ## Hello, Saree! How are you? How are you? Yes, there are quite a few other options that don't contain Acetaminophen/Tylenol that you can ask your doctor about, including Oxycodone, Morphine, Dilaudid and a new version of time released Hydrocodone without the Acetaminophen called Zohydro.
