I have just been diagnosed with ITP. I am told it could be caused from the medication Naproxen because of purpura. We have been seeing several doctors and we have a consultation for treatment. My platelets keep dropping and are around 60,000. I am sick almost all day, no energy, red spots, and have head aches. I also have a condition in my legs that is called Lumpadema, swelling and has been being treated along with the arthritis. No one told us of this side effect and what could happen. Is this temporary or long term with treatment? ## Well, first of all, it is hard to say whether or not is was caused by Naproxen or developed because of some other reason. this site is not medical professionals and cannot possibly guess, especially since this site does not know your full medical history...

what is this ## His working for me at 300mg,my feet are burning and itching and feeling like electricity until I would cry and end up cutting my nails as short as possible now they don't burn, hurt since I've been taking it! ## This is Naproxen, which is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory that's used to treat pain, fever and swelling. Typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and stomach irritation. The symptoms you've described sound like nerve damage. Are you diabetic or on any other medications?

I've been diagnosed with Intracranial Hypertension age 21 an have been prescribed both naproxen and tramacet!! Does any one know if I can take the two together????? ## Hi little one, Based on my research there are no drug interactions found between the active ingredients in Tramacet and Naproxen. This does not necessarily mean no interactions exist, but my sources state that every effort has been made to ensure that the information provided is accurate. That said, I would personally feel safe taking the two together. You may also want to consider adding some natural alternatives to the mix (such as essential oils), in conjunction with a diet high in potassium and magnesium (more fruits and veggies). I hope this helps!

My husband has 2 hernia, and severe hip pain. Could be pain from 2 groin hernias make him so painful. Has hydrocodone 5 325. Can he take naperxon 500 with it. ## yes he can tell him he can eat a snack with it to prevent stomach upset ## Hi Sammy, I just wanted to add from my own experience that I too have taken this combination of meds in the not so distant past, after a nose surgery. I don't recall having any issues at that time, other than typical (minor) side effects such as nausea and dizziness that is commonly associated with many medications. However I understand that everyone reacts/responds differently and that trial and error is something we all must undergo at some point in order to find out what works best. Hopefully the addition of naproxen will help. If not, maybe his d...

I was on 35mc/hrt Transdermal patches. My gp has told me I'm to be taken off the patches and use co codamol at highest dose he can give as well as diclofenac at the highest daily dose. And I'm still experienceing chronic pain.

I've been taking naproxen and lyrica for shingles pain, but my blood pressure is up and I have swelling on my left side. Do these meds interact? ## No, I didn't find any interactions listed between them, but it is always best to double check. Both pain, and a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory can cause you to have elevated blood pressure, according to FDA and AMA reports. How high is your blood pressure and how much Naproxen are you taking? The FDA also warns that Lyrica can cause hypertension, though it is a very rare side effect. It could be that this just isn't the right medication combination for you. Have you tried an antiviral for the Shingles? It can often help shorten the duration of them, and lessen the symptoms.

I found these pills in my boyfriends Truck? What are they for? He orders medication from Mexico and I don't trust Mexican pharmacists sometimes. Not the products but the people that sell the items because they did not go to school as long as our pharmasists do here in the US (6yrs.) ## Naproxen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory that is used to relieve pain, fever and swelling. It's the same active ingredient that is used in Aleve, but higher dosages require a prescription. Side effects may include: nausea, headache, stomach irritation and risk of bleeding. Learn more: Are there any other questions or comments? ## Do you know how ignorant and stupid you sound saying s*** that you don't even know, please educate yourself about the "Mexican Pharmasist" before you spea...

I've taken Excedrin for 40+ years, to get rid of a caffeine headache that coffee can't. On occasion I also take Naproxen for athritis in the hips, but I never take it together with Excedrin, because of the instructions on the Naproxen Rx leaflet. How long should I wait before taking a Naproxen after taking Excedrin? Thank you for any feedback. -Ella ## I can't believe that NO ONE would have an answer for the above question. -Ella ## Hello, Ella! How are you? I'm sorry that you've not received an answer, yet. Doubling up on a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory increases your risks of bleeding and developing stomach ulceration, which is why you are instructed not to take them together. It may also cause overdose symptoms in some people, that the FDA lists as possibly inclu...

I found this pill in my kids room...just wondering do people abuse this drug? Please let me know ## I heard that some people have used it recreationally ... just wondering..I'm worried and am hoping my kid is not hooked on them.. ## Naproxen will not get someone high, it is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory. It is commonly sold over the counter in a lower dosage as Aleve or generic or store brands. This is, however, a prescription strength tablet, so your child should not have it. It is illegal to have this without a valid prescription. The other operative question you may want to look into is what your child thinks it is, do they think it is something they can get high off of, like a narcotic? Have they been taking other medications that they shouldn't be?

Help! I've been taking Naproxen off & on for a complaint in my hands & they give me such awful stomach cramps & seen to cause me to be more tired & lose concentration etc that I stop taking them & just suffer the pain in my hands as its less bother than the aparant side effects from the Naproxen. Am I alone with this or does anyone else suffer? ## Naproxen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory, so the tiredness and etc. can be normal side effects, they are also well-known to cause stomach irritation, because they can cause the stomach to produce more acid. Have you discussed these problems with your doctor? How high of a dosage have you been taking? There are various solutions that your doctor may be able to help you with, such as lowering the dosage, using a diffe...

Hi. I took naproxen dr 500mg 6 hours ago, but I have still a lot of vaginal pain that I'm dealing with. Can I take ibuprofen 600 mg now while breastfeeding? ## No, you should not combine them, since they are both nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories, thus that would essentially be doubling up. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding, and stomach irritation. How severe is the pain and how old is your baby?

I got the prescription in Jul 2009. There is no expiry date on the bottle. Is it still safe to take it after 4 years? ## Hi, Milica! Once the factory seal on a bottle of tablets has been broken, the expiration date is one year from the date you received it from your pharmacy. Naproxen doesn't get dangerous after it has expired, but it will start to lose potency, which means that after 4 years, they are virtually worthless and should just be disposed of properly. Is there anything else I can help with? ## My name nargis my naproxen tablets 9Aug 2015 its safe

I have severe back and hip pain. Is it safe to take norco 4.5 hours after taking a 500mg naproxen? Thank you. ## They can be taken together, as long as you have the approval of a medical professional. The FDA does warn that Norco carries the risk of being habit forming and it may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, diarrhea, and non-allergic skin rash. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I had foot surgery and my Dr prescribed me Norco 10's. Can I take Naproxen 500 with that to ease pain?

I have a bad pain in my hips and wanted to know if 2 Naproxen 500 MG would be too much to take...I'm hurting pretty badly. ## Hello, Terri! How are you? It would be best not to double up, unless your doctor approaches. Naproxen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory and taking too much of it, as listed in the FDA warnings, risks severe stomach and/or liver damage. Especially if taken for long periods of time. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, increased risk of bleeding and stomach irritation. Is there anything else I can help with?

Taking mylan nifedipine er and teva naproxen 250 mg together alright? ## Hello, Doreen! How are you? No, it might not be safe for you to take any NSAID, if you have high blood pressure. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications can sometimes cause elevated blood pressure as side effects, along with fluid retention, which can further contribute to the problem, so you shouldn't take them, without your doctor's approval. Nifedipine is a calcium channel blocker that's most commonly used to teat hypertension and certain cardiac conditions, its typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain and hypotension. Is there anything else I can help with?

My naproxen was filled 7/2011. Is it ok to take now (10-2012)?. ## Hi Turtle, There's actually a lot of conflicting information around the topic of expired medication, but according to a Harvard Medical School family health article, except in rare cases (i.e. tetracycline), there is little chance of danger due to taking medications even up to 15 years beyond their expiration date. This conclusion was based upon a study conducted at the request of the US military due to stockpiles of expensive drugs they could otherwise need to replace every few years. The conclusion was that 90% of those drugs remained effective 10 - 15 years after the expiration date. But the question is whether or not the drug you have happens to be one of these drugs from the study... (I have not seen the list of...

A few years ago I started to get arthritis pains in my hands late at night, in colder weather/water and after using them a lot. I was told by my grandma I probably have it because it runs in both sides of the family. I took naproxen once and broke out in hives/skin rash on my arms. I no longer take it but I can take Advil with no problems whatsoever. All doctors are very confused by this as they are apart of the same family. I'm confused too. Is there a reason why I can take one but have allergic reactions to the other? ## That is always possible, since no medication is exactly the same as another, when it comes right down to the actual base chemicals. For example, I can take most antibiotics without a problem, but had a bad allergic reaction to Bactrim. It really isn't always t...
