Hey all, I was born with dislocated hips and have had more than 10 operations throughout my life since I was born to correct the issue, according to my dr. It was the worst case he has ever seen and my hip bones and joints have fused into my pelvis I can not open my legs at all or spread them I can not run or jump walking is extremely difficult and I get tired fast and my legs are in a lot of pain after 27 years I had enough of it so my bone dr referred me to a pain specialist. Fast forward to three years later now I’m 30 years of age. My only hope is for a complete hip replacement and after being on pain medication for the last 3 years nothing is working anymore. My dr had me on 60mg of oxyContin 3 times a day (180mg daily) and short acting oxycodone twice daily. Now, my question...

I have being taking Ms-Contin and for 16 years plus all my blood work came back excellent! I have being trying Lyrica it seems to not be working as well now and I am taking 4 to 5 pills a day. so how long can the body take it ? I have little constapation and I can work with good days.so my question is this amount going to end my life early or is it the pills work for the pain an I don't get loaded! which is good. Thxs Gene ## how long can you take ms-contin ## It's really entirely up to you and your doctor, there is no set time frame, it all depends on how well it works for you and whether or not it has caused you any problems. If you're blood work has come back good and your doctor sees no reason to worry, then there likely isn't one. Have you talked to them about your ...

I have been on 100mg MS Contin 2X day for close to 10 years. What would be the best substitute and what MG. ## The most likely one to switch to would Oxycontin, it's over one and a half times stronger than Morphine. So, to equal each 100mgs dose of MS Contin, you'd need about 67mgs of Oxycontin. That's not available as an actual dosage, so your doctor would need to adjust accordingly, either a few milligrams higher or lower, depending on your tolerance. Learn more Oxycontin details here. What others have you tried?

I need to switch to one of these meds, Opana isn't covered on my insurance, the MS is, are they the same or is one better than the other? ## No, they do not contain the same medication, MS Contin contains the active ingredient Morphine and Opana contains Oxymorphone. The Opana is a much stronger medication, for instance, just 6.67mgs of it is equal to a 40mg dosage of the Ms Contin, so you have to take much less of it. However, since there is no generic, it is also much more expensive and since you can get a dosage in the Morphine that may help, you may find it makes more sense to go with the one that your insurance will cover, even though the dosage will have to be higher. Are there any questions or comments? ## I have been taking MS Contin 30 mg 3 time daily and have been cut to 3...

Hi, it's Kel again. I wrote earlier but now I am here with a different topic amd would like some opinions. I was recently switched (2 days ago actually) from being on Percocet 10-325 4xd to MSContin 15er & Percocet 7.5 4xd for BT. My Dr. was going to go ahead & start me at 60 mg of the MSContin and take my Percocet down. I freaked out due to just beinh another "new" drug. I habe to many chronic conditions to write but I can honestly say I am about to have 2 major surgies. And he is wanting me to get that Neuro Implant device. My question is, this is just my 3rd dose of the MSContin (morphine sulf er 15 mg) and I am truly not feeling that much of pain relief even when I take my now reduced Percocet dosage. I am on other medications as well, Klonopin being one. I think...

I previously was on percocet 10mg one 4 times a day..it was no longer working but due to new state and federal regulations my Dr wouldn't give anything stronger and informed me as of 9/1/2016 would no longer treat pain except with Tylenol #3 or Tylenol #4. Like a i**** I tried Tylenol #4 one every 4 hours.....TERRIBLE PAIN. So I was given a referral to a pain Dr and saw on Monday.. today is Thursday. Started on new RX of ms contin 15mg one every 12 hours.....this is rediculous....PAIN IS HORRENDOUS. Have only slept like 3-4 hours a night since Monday. Called pain Dr today and nurse said Dr is out until tomorrow..and that I should give it like 7 days before saying it's not working..and she would tell the Dr on call but she doubted they would just change. The pharmacist I called s...

I've been prescribed to these meds for almost 3 years now. I have been taking Ms Contin for almost 7 years. In the past 4 months or so I have noticed my pain becoming significantly worse and also my Ms Contin tablets weighing less than they used to as well as tasting like salt. I take the brand name Ms Contin 100mg and 60mg from Purdue Pharma L.P. and I always have. I take brand of practically every medication I'm prescribed to, including Duragesic 100mcg and Dilaudid 8mg. I am not very happy I am back on Dilaudid again, as I was on it prior to moving around here and was taking over 2x the dose I currently am along with Actiq 1200 and 1600mcg and never found the Dilaudid to work well on my pain. The Actiq did, but only for up to an hour max. I actually asked to be taken off Acti...

I was hit by a drunk driver in 99 and it took years to finally get pain managed and try to live a normal life. My pain Dr. Dropped me after a pharmacist lied and said i was attempting to pick up post dated rx the surveillance proves i didn't but now i have no doctor no meds and am very sick what do i do ## Hi lin, Sorry to hear about your situation. Based on the circumstances it probably wouldn't be best to ask for a referral... however, there's certainly other physicians out there who would still be willing to help you. I just can't imagine every single doctor turning you down for such a petty accusation; especially since they have no real proof in the matter to back up their claims. Have you already contacted any other pain management clinics in your area?

Just wondering if 30 mg moriphine is the same as moriphine 15 mg mscotin it says. I take the 30 daily but was given a few of the 15 mg moriphine mscotin for after my surgery by another Dr but both drs are aware.what is the difference if any other ta Han the way it releases. The 30mg is as needed up to three times a day the 15 is every 12 hours...I can't see taking both of it's the same thing...thank you. ## From what you've said, the dosage is different, the 30mg is stronger, but the 15mg is time released. The NIH warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, and headache. I live n north Atlanta, ga. And suddenly no pharmacy (been to 6 so far) will fill my scripts. And each has a different reason than the next, yet none accusing me of any wrong doing. Been on severe pain control since .2005. No new meds at all... Why? ## What reasons have you been given? There have been a lot of problems on the east coast recently. A lot of issues are due to the fact that the limits on how much of these medications any pharmacy can order in each month are now being strictly enforced. This is causing many pharmacies to run out and they can't order in a new supply until the following month. ## I have had the exact same problem and I don't know what to do. I am almost out and still trying to find. I live in Loganville. Have you had any luck finding? ## Suddenly stopp...

Iam a 65yo male with osteogenisis imperfecta, scoliosis, osteoarthritis,IBS,hypertension etc. I had both knees replaced 22 years ago. Recently an increase in pain in L hip prompted my PC Doc to do the mscontin thing. I was already on the 60mg's codeine 3 times a day. This has been great, finally i can walk around pretty much pain free most of the day. I just wondering about all that tyelnol, because its been about 30 or 40 years taking tyelnol and I'm worried about my liver. What else would be good.for BTP. I dont see my doc for another three weeks and I would just like to get some input. ## Hello, Rickey! How are you? There are other options you can use for breakthrough pain that don't have Acetaminophen/Tylenol in them, such as a regular release Morphine or Oxycodone. You may...

I am taking 30 mg mscontin 3X a day with a lot of break thru pain. How bad would it be if I took (2) 30 mg 2X a day ## my doc prescribed 30mg MS Contin 3X a day. I am having a lot of break thru pain, and I thought I might take (2) 30 mg 2X a day? ## Have you consulted your doctor about this? MS Contin contains the active ingredient Morphine, which is a narcotic analgesic and a sudden doubling of your dosage could be dangerous. It will increase the risk of side effects, such as nausea, drowsiness, constipation and dizziness. However, the most worrisome is the depression of the central nervous system, which can result in a lowered rate of breathing, slower heart rate and lowered blood pressure. That is actually how most overdose accidents happen, so I wouldn't advise doing so, without...

compare Norco 10mg 5 *day with MSContin 15mg 2*day ## The Hydrocodone in the Norco and the Morphine in MS Contin are actually equal in terms of strength, so if you were taking 50mgs a day of the Hydrocodone in the Norco, then you'll need 50mgs a day of the Morphine to equal it for pain control. Learn more Norco details here. Learn more Morphine details here. Thus, you may not get the same pain relief, since you're not taking an equivalent dosage. Are there any other questions or comments? ## So the 50mg/day of Norco I was taking is stronger then the 2 15mg MSContin that the new dr. put me on?

I am taking ER Mscontin 60mg BID and 30mg IR Mscontin BID for chronic pain. Ive been taking this dose for about 6 months, and before that I was taking the 30mg ER. My sister said she heard that sometimes morphine can actually cause more pain instead of just taking away pain. Have you heard this before, and if so where can I find more information on this subject? ## Hi, Jen! How are you? I'm not sure where to point you for the information, since it's really buried deep in the research details and the physician's side effect information that lists all the remotest possible side effects, but yes, in some cases Morphine can worsen someone's pain. It doesn't happen to everyone, but in some cases, it causes joint inflammation that makes things much worse. I actually had it...

I am taking 3 30 mgs of MSContin per day. It makes me sleepy and I need a nap about an hour after taking it. My Doctor is willing to switch me to OxyContin 30 mgs 3 30 mgs per day. Which medicine makes you sleepier? ## No one can say for sure if a certain med will make you sleepy. Morphine is more sedating, for most people, than OxyContin is. ## Hello, Candy! How are you? When I was on pain management for several years, Morphine always knocked me out, but I only experienced a little drowsiness with Oxycodone. However, as BL has stated, no one can say how any given medication will affect you. We are all different, so the only solution is to try it and see. In my opinion Opana (OXYMORPHONE), is a much better drug than MSCONTIN. It works much more efficiently and is much, much stronger than MSCONTIN. I live with chronic pain MSCONTIN does nothing for it. My mother who is 88 said she rather take percocett. She had double knee replacement yrs ago which resulted in a failed surgery, I have a collaspe lumbar, so I do know what I'm talking about when it comes to pain medication. They should take mscontin out of the gold standard part, put it with the silver. ## Both the Oxymorphone in the Opana and the Oxycodone in the Percocet are known to be stronger and more potent than Morphine, so it makes sense that they may help some people more than Morphine does. However, what works well for any given person can differ, so that does have to be taken...
