Does Purdue Pharma still manufacture MS Contin? If not, has the patent been sold to another producer? ## The name brand MS Contin is still owned and manufactured by Purdue Pharma, according to FDA listings, but there are generics, and other formulations available. They also warn that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as dizziness, headache, drowsiness, dry mouth, and constipation. Do you have any other questions?

A friend of mine recently told me that she had been prescribed 30mg of MS Contin but opted for the generic Morphine Sul as it was cheaper and was the same as MS Contin but while researching the above med she found that this med also contained both morphine and oxycodone . This didn't make sense to me because if any combination of meds would or could be found in the name brand or generic wouldn't it be more likely that it would be morphine and oxycontin since the name brand does have the word Contin in it ? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated . ## Your friend's information is incorrect. MS Contin contains solely the narcotic Morphine in a time released formulation, the generics are the same. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming a...

My insurance no longer covers Oxycotin 40mg ER. I was taking it 2 x a day and also taking Oxycodone 30mg 3 x a day due to my injury. I will like to know what will be a good substitute for Oxycotin 40mg ER. Thanks a lot. ## Hello, Matraquita! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem you've run into. There are several other options available, including MS Contin and Opana ER, both are time released and are available as generics. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. However, only your doctor can decide what would be right for you to try. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Sorry to be so negative but anytime release...

The cost is way too high. I though generic oxycontin was coming back. Does anyone have an update? ## Hi, Marty! No, there isn't a generic and under the current regulations there won't be one any time soon. Since it is such a highly abused medication that has an extremely high rate of addiction, theft and diversion, the generics were removed from the market to help keep better control of the supply. If there is only one manufacturer, then it is much easier to know exactly how much has been manufactured, where it's being stored, where it's being shipped and etc. If you need a cheaper medication for pain control that is still time released, you may want to ask your doctor about trying MS Contin, it is a time released formulation of Morphine and there are generics of it avai...

I have 42 pieces of metal in my back and am disabled and need help paying for the ms contin my doctor put me on for extended pain relief ## Hello, George! How are you? I'm sorry that you're in pain. However, since MS Contin is currently available as a generic, as approved by the FDA, there aren't any assistance programs available for it, because generics are cheaper by their very nature. There is a drug discount card link on each page of this site. It is free to print and use, so that might help to make it cheaper. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Alternatively, you could try asking your pharmacy which ones they accept and which would save y...

is there a less expensive medicine than oxycontin 80 Mg TID ## There is no generic for Oxycontin, which is the time released formulation of Oxycodone from Purdue. However, there are generics available of the regular release formulation, the name brand for this is Roxicodone, but it will not last as long as the time released formulation. A time released medication that you may want to discuss with your doctor as an alternative, which is also available as a generic, is MS Contin, which contains the active ingredient Morphine. Oxycodone, however, is stronger than Morphine, so you would require a higher dosage of the MS Contin. Are there any other questions?

co pay is 60.00 for oxycontin i'm on fixed income ss disability but i get medicare but fall under low income so i get extra help for scripts problem is i still have to pay the 60 which i can't afford is there a program out there to help off set the cost ????? ## I'm sorry, but no. The current programs require either no insurance, or they help people in the coverage gap, but do not assist with co-pays. Have you talked to your doctor about using an alternative medication that might be cheaper, such as MS Contin? It's a time released formulation of Morphine and there are generics available.

Due to present eligibility to medicare, finding a drug plan to cover oxycontin is a real problem. The amount does not appear to be the problem but the brand\type is. Any idea what I could switch to ? Currently take four 60mg per day along with oxy IR 20mg for those sudden pain spikes. ## There is no generic for Oxycontin, which could be why they don't want to cover it. However, there are other options that are available as generics, such as MS Contin, Opana ER, Zohydro, and Fentanyl. The FDA warns that all of these medications carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. Those are just a couple of the options you could ask your doctor about trying. Does anyone else have any suggestions to add?

This all seems to have started around the same time Darvon was pulled from the shelves with nothing to replace it. (Darvon & Tramadol combined was finding some success in providing relief for fybromyalgia) I gave up on trying to get Walgreens to fill prescriptions for Oxycodone/Oxycontin. After trying Walmart, several Publix, CVS & most of the Walgreens in my area, I am trying the Morphine based product MS Contin instead. I had an allergic reaction to the generic brand and am now on day 2 of the manufactor's and am experiencing similar problems. The conversion formula from Oxycodone to Morphine isn't reliable either. Meanwhile, the local Walgreens are now out of Adderall going on 2 weeks, because the company that makes it (Corapharma & Barr make the two generics) app...

I have been sucessfully taking morphine sulfate ER 60mg manufactured by Mallinckrodt for chronic pain for awhile. I prefer it to other generics (Endo, for example). The pharmacy I've been going to has been kind enough to special order it for me but say that they can't continue to do so due to corporate restrictions with pharmaceutical distributors. As I mentioned, I prefer Mallinckrodt to other manufacturers of generic morphine sulfate ER. While I realize the main ingredients are exactly the same, other ingredients such as fillers and time release methods do vary quite a bit. I have been having quite a bit of difficulty finding pharmacies who carry Mallinckrodt MS ER 60mg at a reasonable price (that seems to vary widely, too). Why is this particular medication becoming so diffic...

Ive taken small doses of opiods before, and one 15mg abg, but not on a regular basis. I was just wondering how long tye effects will last, amd when it is safe to drink. And what are warning signs I should look out for? I think im going to be ok though. ## IThe drug is morphine sulfate extended-release, generic for MS Contin 15 mg tablets. It is odd you would be prescribed an extended-release medication if you are only taking it occasionally. MS Contin (and its generics) are used for people requiring continuous pain relief and is taken every 12 hrs. MS Contin Extended Release lasts 12 hrs so that xx mg does of morphine is being slowly released rather than the full dose working immediately (but lasting only 4-6 hrs). MS Contin is NOT intended to be taken as needed so it may be a large enou...

my dr gave me kadian 20 mg 2a day and it works but i dodnt have drug corvage so what could i ask him to give me that would work aswell as kadian not sure what to ask him to change it to and then it not work please help any suggestions ## I really don't have any suggestions for you, almost all narcotics, even generics are going to be around this price range, unfortunately. When I was on pain management several years ago, the generic for MS Contin was over $300 a month. I am not sure if there are any programs to help, but you can check at: PPARX.org Click Here ## I,M SURE THAT THEIR IS SOME MEDICATIONS OUT THEIR THAT WONT COST 2 OR 3 HUNDRED DOLLARS WHAT THEY WOULD BE I,M NOT SURE BUT SOMEONE OUTTHEIR SHOULD BE ABLE TO HELP YOU COME ON FRIENDS HELP THIS PERSON ANY IDEALS FOR THE POOR ...

My Doc prescribed me 15 mg of Morphine. Ive been on vicodin 7.5 mg for three years. How much of a difference is morphine? I took half of the blue pill just now. ## The Morphine is stronger than the Hydrocodone in the Vicodin, it is also a straight narcotic, without the Acetaminophen that is in the Vicodin. It sounds like your doctor is trying to help you get better control of your pain. The main issue here is, what type of Morphine pills are they? If they are the time released version, generics for MS Contin, then cutting the pill in half could be very dangerous and should not be done. It can cause you to have too much of the medication released at once. The side effects are similar and may include: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and dry mouth. I went to my regular Walgreen, here in Jacksonville fl, to fill my monthly order for oxycodone ir. A new pharmacist told me that in order to get ir prescription fill I would also need to fill one for ER. which I stop taking because of the cost. hasanybody heard of such a new law in florida ## Alot of pharmacies around Tampa/St Pete will say that you need an ER and some will also say you need a non narcotic. I don't think it is a law because I know people who just get ir meds and have no trouble filling. If you quit filling your ER because of cost ask your doctor about MS Contin it is an ER med and comes in generics. I pay $52 for 60 MS Contin 30mg at Walgreens with the discount card.
