Does it take some time to build up in the system for this medication to start working for pain? I have just started taking them today, 1 every 12 hours. Thank you for any information that you can give me. ## Hi gwen, While it's certainly going to take some time for it to fully build up in your system, I would think that you should at least be able to feel or notice some sensation of relief within a short period of time after taking your dose. However, because MS Contin is timed released and usually lasts up to 12 hours, it's time-release effect could also be minimizing how much is absorbed into your system at any given moment; making it seem like it's not working as well as it should be. That's my theory anyways...But in the event that you're just not getting any rel...

These dont seem to work can you take every 8hrs instead of 12hrs ## Hi Mike, It sounds to me like the dosage may not be strong enough for you; but to answer your question, the usual adult dose for pain is 5 to 30 mg every 3 to 4 hours as needed (when taking it Orally, Sublingual, or Buccal). The dosing indications for MS Contin (Morphine Oral) also state that "extended-release" tablet dosages range from 10 mg to 600 mg daily, given in equally divided doses every 8 to 12 hours or given as one dose every 24 hours. So depending on whether or not your tablets are extended-release, you should have some flexibility with the hours. I hope this helps! ## They are extend release ## If anyone is looking for a "buzz" with MS Contin, you are very unlikely to get it. These pills are ...

Hi, it's Kel again. I wrote earlier but now I am here with a different topic amd would like some opinions. I was recently switched (2 days ago actually) from being on Percocet 10-325 4xd to MSContin 15er & Percocet 7.5 4xd for BT. My Dr. was going to go ahead & start me at 60 mg of the MSContin and take my Percocet down. I freaked out due to just beinh another "new" drug. I habe to many chronic conditions to write but I can honestly say I am about to have 2 major surgies. And he is wanting me to get that Neuro Implant device. My question is, this is just my 3rd dose of the MSContin (morphine sulf er 15 mg) and I am truly not feeling that much of pain relief even when I take my now reduced Percocet dosage. I am on other medications as well, Klonopin being one. I think...

Does m15 m blue pills cause you to have energy. Or is it like a soma just relaxes you? ## The pill you are describing is identified as Morphine sulfate extended release 15 mg. Interestingly enough, some people do get lots of energy from taking Morphine. But there are others who become more prone to its side effects, which can bring about a sense of tiredness. You may want to give it a trial run to see how well you respond to it. A list of side effects can be found here: nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a682133.html#side-effects Just keep in mind: the things you eat and your activity level can really impact what energy you do have and how this drug might affect it. I hope this helps to answer your question!

I previously was on percocet 10mg one 4 times a day..it was no longer working but due to new state and federal regulations my Dr wouldn't give anything stronger and informed me as of 9/1/2016 would no longer treat pain except with Tylenol #3 or Tylenol #4. Like a i**** I tried Tylenol #4 one every 4 hours.....TERRIBLE PAIN. So I was given a referral to a pain Dr and saw on Monday.. today is Thursday. Started on new RX of ms contin 15mg one every 12 hours.....this is rediculous....PAIN IS HORRENDOUS. Have only slept like 3-4 hours a night since Monday. Called pain Dr today and nurse said Dr is out until tomorrow..and that I should give it like 7 days before saying it's not working..and she would tell the Dr on call but she doubted they would just change. I cant see that morphine 15 mg does anything for me. I was taking 40 mg oxcontin twice a day and something else for breakthrough pain. Since going on medicare supplement insurance I can't get the oxycontin through the company. I was taking dilaudid for the breakthrough pain but living, in Florida, I can't find it at all here. Does Oxcodone do as good as the morphine? I don't know that I can even get that here though. They have cracked down so much on what is dispensed in Florida that any meds is hard to get. Thanks for answering. ## Hello, Jeanne! How are you? I think the problem may be with the dosage of the MS Contin that you're on. Oxycodone is stronger, so for each 40mgs of it that you were taking, you'd need 60mgs of the MS Contin to be equivalent in analgesic e...

Is there such a morophine pill that had M on one side and ms 15 on the othet side? ## I want to make sure I did not get ripped off...i paid good money for 10 "15 mg morophine pills". But all images I can find have no such pill that is thick, blue with ms 15...on one side...and M (no square) on the other side ## Hi Don, I think you'll be pleased to know that these are real. A round blue pill imprinted with "M" on one side and "ms 15" on the other is identified as Morphine sulfate extended release (15 mg); which is used to relieve severe or agonizing pain and suffering. It is manufactured by Mylan Pharmaceuticals Inc. Learn More: Morphine Details I hope this helps! ## Yes, it should be round, blue and have the MS over 15 on one side and the M on the other, it i...

Can I take MS Contin 15 mg and Norco 10-325 together or should I space them out over the day? ## They can be taken together, if they have both been prescribed for you. However, as reported by the NIH, taking them together may result in your experiencing more severe side effects, which may include nausea, dizziness, headache, and sedation. Is there anything else I can help with?

Help please! I have been to every pharmacy I can think of in Las Vegas to try to have my MS Contin 15mg filled and all just say tthatit is back ordered. Even my regular pharmacies (Walgreens and CVS) have been less than helpful, saying only "maybe we will have it in a week" (and that was a week ago)! Thankfully, I started trying to find this 2 weeks before my meds ran out but now rx expires in 2 days! Thanks to anyone who might be able to help!

which is better for severe pain following surgery? Have been on 100 mg ms contin er tid plus oxycodone 10/325 5/day for severe pain. having knee surgery and Dr switched me to 15mg oxycodone 6/day. somehow I feel like I am really going to be in pain. ## Hello, Foxy! How are you? Yes, the amount of Oxycodone you've been prescribed isn't equal to the amount MS Contin you were taking. That's only 90mgs a day and you'd need 133.33mgs to equal 200mgs of MS Contin. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. But how bad is your pain? After successful surgery, it should slowly start to improve and you shouldn't continually need the higher doses, you sh...

if my dosage of MS Contin is 15mg, but I only have 30mg -can I cut it in half? ## No, dont cut them they are time released. please dont cut them. ## Ed - Took the words right out of my mouth ! Never cut in half or crush anything that is time released, people have actually died by getting a toxic level. It should be on your bottle of med as a warning-sometimes it might be in the medicine info-if not please call your pharmacy so they can be aware that they forgot such an important detail. It would be awful if it is not on there as there could be others that wouldn't know & it was a new med & only wanted to take half to see how their body reacted to it & might cause a sometimes fatal event. I am glad you asked before you took it. God Bless.Hope you feel better soon! ## The ...

My Dr has given me the option to switch from Opana ER 45mg to msCottin ER! How many MG of MSCottin ER will it take to equale the Opana ER 45mg?? ## Hello, Sharon! How are you? Opana is actually much stronger than Morphine, so you'd need 135mgs of the MS Contin to equal each 45mgs of the Opana. That's quite a lot to take. Is the Opana no longer working for you? This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Oxycontin or Fentanyl might be better options. ## Thank you for the information. It's helped a lot! I am switching medications because of several different stomach problems I have. Hi all...I have several bone fragments in my upper vertebrae from an auto accident 22 years ago (passenger) and more recently (2008) hit as a pedestrian and suffering from 8/9 mm disc bulges L5/S1 and 4th concussion 3 months ago. My lower back is obviously the worst area and I'm in the 8-9 "pain range" (severe/unbearable) on a daily basis. My GP had me on 12 10/325 Norco (APAP nightmare) for all of my chronic pain. We've tried numerous thing over the years but to no avail. The Norco was the only treatment within his realm of expertise (or what he was willing to keep me on w/out changing meds and upping my dose) that I believe he felt comfortable with. Forgot to mention that I had both epidural and facet IV's, PT and chiro, all with very short-acting results. Now, my ...

More information on this product,Ive been on this for a couple years an know I think I have a higher tolerate. ## What type of information are you seeking on it? The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. As to building up a tolerance to it, that is normal, if you've been taking the same dosage for a long period of time. If it is no longer working as well for you, you may need a dosage adjustment, or to try a different medication.

I wonder what the difference is between 15MG MS Contin vs 15 Mg Oxycodone. Is there a substitute for MS Morphine..I take 2 30mg MS Contin twice a day and also with that I take 15MG MS Contin twice per day..which of course is 45mgs at a time..with 3 15mg Oxcodone for breakthru pain. I was taking 20 mg Oxycontin 3 times a day etc. But my insurance wasn't paying for the oxy. So what I take now is paid for. Do any of you have any suggestions of what would work better for the pain..since I changed to morphine it doesn't seem to do the trick..this is long..but any answers would be very appriciated..Thanks.. ## Oxycodone is actually one and a half times stronger than Morphine. So, for instance if you were taking 20mgs of Oxycodone, at a time, to relieve your pain, then the equivalent d...

My husband has severe rheumatoid arthritis and requires 24 pain management. We felt there were too many ups and downs with the 50 mcg fentanyl patch and asked for something new. Pain Management Dr. (PMD) changed him to MS Contin 15 mg. He was in bed for 4 solid days, was taking 4-6 percocet per day for breakthrough and was anorexic and irritable.
