I have gotten MRSA four times in the last three years, with two surgeries. My questions are: why do I keep getting the infection, also around the same time of year as the previous years had mrsa. Also, I have been on and off pain killers (oxycodone 5 mg) for the last three years and I believe I have gained somewhat of a tolerance for them. I do understand that improper use of prescription drugs is a huge problem and doctors are hesitant to prescribe them. But why is it that if I have to pay a huge doctor bill (100,000.00 just for the hospital bill the first time I got it) and I'm in a lot of severe pain the doctor won't give me the necessary dose or quantity of pain medication I need to be comfortable? ## Hello, Stephen! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem that you...

my baby at 8 days old was diagnosed with MRSA in his eyes. We've been on iv antibiotics and when he was sent home he was prescribed clindamycin in an oral form. 2 1/2 ML for 5 days. Well the MRSA returned shortly after we finished the 5 days. So he is back on it for 10 days. My question is we are using the same bottle of clindamycin that is now 2 weeks old. Do we need to get a prescription for a new bottle of clindamycin? As you know MRSA is a nightmare and very hard to get rid of. I want him to be getting the best medication he can get. ## Hello, Jessica! How is your son doing? Most liquid medications do expire fairly quickly, but there should be an expiration date on the bottle to be sure. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizz...

I'm in a hospital paralyzed from my T-6 down becuz of an abscess which was MRSA on that vertebrae in my spine! Well my Dr came in this morning and told me he's not going to give me anymore narcotic pain meds! He claims I'm testing positive for meth! My question is, cymbalta's the ONLY new drug I'm taking. Does Cymbalta cause false positives for methamphetamine? ## I'm also testing positive for methamphetamines and I take Cymbalta - I have never taken methamphetamines in my life. ## I took my first drug test today after being put on this damn antidepressant and the doctor called and told me I need blood work cause I tested positive for methamphetamines, and that's the only new drug I've been put on. I'm very upset. ## Can Azithromycin cause a false pos...

i have mersa and they perscribe sulfameth ds tabs to treat it.. why? and how do i stop getting frequent break outs of mersa? ## MRSA (pronounced mersa) stands for Methicillin Resistant Staph Aureus, a type of bacteria that's resistant to a lot of common antibiotics. It does usually respond to sulfameth. If you have repeated infection, it's probably colonized your skin. You may be able to clear it by taking a bath with 1/2 cup bleach in a whole tub of warm (not hot) water for about 5 min, then rinsing off. Do that 1-2 times a week for about a month, and it should help. ## Bathing in bleach is NOT recommended and can actually be very dangerous! You should follow your doctor's instructions, using whatever medications they suggest you try. Not everyone responds to the same antib...

Hi, I've been on Clindamycin 150mg x3, 3 times a day to treat SI Joint MRSA. I've taken this for 11months. I started jogging (I use to be an elite marathon runner) 3 months ago. No problems.. just the typical shin splints and common running injuries. During the past month I'm experiencing weakness in legs and extream soreness in my calf muscles, to a degree that I can only walk for 10min. My hospital checkups are 3months apart and I'm supposed to be on antibiotics for at least 1yr. I've decided to stop taking antibiotics yesterday, due to the pain. I've read on forums of cases that Clindamycin can cause muscular and joint pain. Is this true?? ## Hello, Tracey! How are you? Yes, the FDA does list muscle and joint pain as being possible side effects of this antibio...

Recently had a very bad reaction to augmentin. Now suspected MRSA wound that I thought was just a spider bite infected. They gave me this and I have never taken it before. I was okay with amoxicillin so it is the other component I reacted to. Is this related at all? Many of the bad affects listed here are what I experienced so i am afraid to take. Ty. ## No, Trimethoprim is different and unrelated. Learn more Trimethoprim details here. But being an antibiotic, the side effects that it may cause will be very similar to those of other antibiotics, which is why it also lists what you've experienced. The ingredient in the Augmentin that would have caused you a problem, if it wasn't the Amoxicillin, was Clavulanate, also referred to as Clavulanic Acid. Is there anything else I can he...

Can t-bact ointment be applied for active acne? Or any other type of acne? ## T-Bact contains the active ingredient Mupirocin, this is an antibiotic that is used topically, most commonly used to treat MRSA. Has your doctor told you to use it for this? If not, it is not advisable to do so, because it is not to aid in the development of antibiotic resistant bacteria when used improperly. ## Hey thanks Verwon, for ur reply.. but yes my doctor has asked to apply dis n i hve been getting good result. ## i have mosquito bites all over my hands which is like a tiny tiny dots with some scratch marks. my sis-n-law suggested T Bact as she used it for her son and found it to be good. what should i do. use or consult a doctor ## i recently had an accident n i've got my skin peeled off near my r...

Hi my name is Sharon and I got bitten by a spider I believe while visiting my daughter in an area where spiders are more prevalent. I ended up hospitalized and getting MRSA from this. The doctors told me we have staph and MRSA all over our bodies and the least little cut can cause MRSA or Staph to enter the body. Especially under the layers of our skin. I was so afraid to go to the ER for this because it was so bad, it started out small with 2 little holes on the raised part of the area. But my doctor called me in amoxicillin to fight this infection. I knew it was infected because it got very red, hard to where if I touched it it left my finger imprint in my skin. It started spreading and getting larger before took the amoxiclllin, this antibiotic softened the area relieved much pressur...

There is a sign that a person must wear gloves and masks before entering a patient's room. There is a name for it but I cannot remember it. I think it was an immumity to a certain antibiotic. ## Were you possibly thinking of MRSA? It's usually pronounced like mersa and means the person has infections and complications that are resistant to Methicillin and related antibiotics, which makes it very difficult to treat and makes them easily susceptible to other illnesses. ## Yes, I found out it is Mersa. I am in contact with many in a nursing center and was wondering if it is really contageous and what I should do to keep from geting it other than eschew the whole scene? Should there be definite warnings at the facility? Several years ago, notes advising gloves, gowns, etc were advis...

I took this drug in 1987 from the time I was twenty weeks pregnant until I delivered emergency C-section December 1987, eight weeks early. My son's umbilical cord was only 5 inches long and he weighed 4lb 14oz. Since he was almost two years old, he has had all kinds of immune disorders. He had ITP when he was two and he has had MRSA, staph infections, chronic allergies, depression and right now at the age of 25 he is having diagnosis to figure out if he has ulcers or whatever. I even pay a lot of money for him to take a immune support supplement. It has been very frustrating over the years. ## I too took this drug at 20 wks and deliver via c-section in Nov. 1988. My son was born with his umbilical cord wrapped around his neck. His Apgar score was very low. We have experienced just a...

Looking at all the allergic reactions to Bactrim. If there is any way you can use another antibiotic, do so. This medication is seriously dangerous. I say this as a nurse, and also as a victim of a sulfa allergy. I was put on Bactrim for a MRSA infection. Long story short... Developed aseptic viral meningitis for the Bactrim. Ended up in the hospital for four days. Worst illness ever!!!! Look for fevers, severe headache, stiff neck. It will also cause "thrush" or yeast in your mouth. Painful. Rashes, vomiting, and loss of appetite are also common side effects. Avoid this medication if at all possible. Especially if you are immunocompromised! ## From what I've researched online, Bactrim does have quite an intimidating list of side effects / allergic reactions associated with ...
