What does the SR stand for and what are the difference in 5mg hydrocodon to 15 mg morphine sulfate SR? Doctor took me off the hydrocodone but put me on the morphine. ## Hello, Carlos! How are you? The SR stands for sustained release, it designates the Morphine as being a time released formulation. Morphine and Hydrocodone are equivalent on a one to one ratio, so he's raised your dosage to try to help you get better control of your pain, throughout the day. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have a purple little round pill with a M in a square on one side and on the other side it has the # 30. When I looked it up it showed morphine sulfate Sr. My questions are #1. Are these considered extended release? And #2. If so, how often should I be taking them? 1 every 12 hours or 1 every 24 hours. ## Hello, Star! How are you? Yes, the SR stands for sustained release, so it is a time release formulation. They are usually dosed every 12 hours, but you should follow your doctor's prescribing instructions, if they are different. I have been taking morphine sulfate er blue tablets coated in ny. I moved to wisconsin and got my first script here for the same meds. Pharmacy gave me morphine sulfate 15mg sr. It's not coated. It appears to be a regular morphine tablet. I took one and feel nausea and sick. What's the difference or is there any? ## Hello, Karen! How are you? What are the markings on the new ones? That is the only way I'd be able to check the details for you. Can you please post back? But please keep in mind that not all time released tablets use a coating, there are several other methods they can use to control the release of the medication. I have just received two scripts, one is Morphine Sulfate IR 30 MG and the is Morphine Sulfate SR 30 MG tablets. It doesn't say which one is the slow releasing and which one isn't. Can you please help me with this? ## I'm happy to help you! IR stands for immediate release and the SR stands for sustained release, so the IR is the fast one and the SR is your time released formulation. You can learn more Morphine details here. Since Morphine is a narcotic, it may be habit forming and could cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Verwon - Is correct. IR is Immediate Release and SR or ER is Sustained Release or Extended Release. I am prescribed Morphine Sulfate 30mg ER. My pharmacy gave me Morphine Sulfate 30mg SR. I only know because the medication is a different color and I had to research it when my pain became unbearable. I thought they gave me the wrong medication. Is there a difference between SR and ER? Or could the pain be due to the medication being from a different manufacturer than I usually receive? ## SR and ER are both just abbreviations that mean the same thing, they denote it as being a time released formulation of Morphine. Learn more Morphine details here. And yes, the pain may be just due to slight fluctuations in the amount of the active ingredient from one manufacturer to the next. Does it list the name of the manufacturer on them? Or can you post back with the markings?

What's the difference between Morphine sulfate ER, CR, and SR. I am on Oxycontin and want to change to the generic form. ## Whats the differances between morphine sulfate er, cr, and sr. Thanks I am on oxycontin and want to change to one that has a generic, since oxy is nolonger thk Richard ## There is no difference, each abbreviation that you listed is simply a different way of denoting that the Morphine in that particular pill is in a time released formulation. ER stands for extended release, CR stands for controlled release, and SR stands for sustained release. You may see some others used, as well, such as XR, TR, LA, SA, and etc. Unfortunately, the pharmaceutical industry doesn't have any one universal abbreviation that they use to designate it, so some manufacturers base i...

I have morphine sulfate tablet (100)mg and wanted to know what CR means? I know the R is for release but what is the C stand for?, Thanks ## Controlled, this means that it's a time released formulation, which would be a generic for MS Contin, other similar markings that mean the same thing are XR, SR and ER. This is a narcotic, so it may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, constipation and dry mouth. Learn more: Is there anything else I can help with?

I am having severe atomach pain after taking 120 mg morphine...I'm sure it's because of the pills.hoe long will this last? ## It's difficult to say, it may take a few hours to go away. That's a pretty high dosage to be taking, at once. Did your doctor prescribe that much? Stomach pain isn't a normal side effect of narcotics, usually they just cause nausea and perhaps some vomiting. Learn more Morphine details here. Did you eat or drink anything else new? Is this your first time taking Morphine?

I was on oxycontin 20MG 5 times pr day... I grew a tolerance and rather than up the dose, I managed to get back onto teva-morphine SR 30 MG, but what I took before was hydro-morphine 30 MG..trying to find out the differences ## You're actually mixing up drug and manufacturer names here, which may be creating some of your confusion. The one you called Teva-Morphine is actually just the narcotic Morphine and Teva is the manufacturer. The other one is actually called Hydromorphone, it is still a narcotic, but a different one and it is very potent. Are there any other questions or comments? ## Seems I have side effects from the various versions of Morphine Sulfate I have changed to recently. My rheumatologist gave me prednesone 10 mg Q.D My Primary (PCP) gave me morphine sulfate 15 mg S.R. T.I.D I recently was on methadone and prednesone, but I believe one cancelled out the other, or so it seemed to me. I so far do not think this will happen with the morphine and prednesone, but I have only been on the morphine four days. Is ths in the literature? (methadone canceling prednesone ) Thanks for any infrmation ## Hello, Larney! How are you feeling? Yes, you are correct. Prednisone is known to decrease the effect of Methadone due to its effect on a certain intestinal/hepatic enzyme. However, there is no such interaction listed between it and the Morphine. I have a round orange pill that is marked 60 on 1 side and N on the other. Could somone please tell me if this is a Morphine pill? Thank you in advance. ## Did you perhaps mean to say "M" instead of "N"? The Morphine pill that fits your description (of orange and round) has an M inside of a box, imprinted on one side and the number 60 imprinted on the other side. If this sounds like a match, then your pill is Morphine sulfate SR (60 mg), manufactured by Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals. For further verification, the National Drug Code (NDC) for this pill is: 00406-8380 I hope this helps! ## I appreciate your responding to my question, however the letter marked on the pill is in fact an N and not an M as you suggested. or what kinda of morphine pill has * pms * on one side, & a straight line across on the otherside...i'm just curious! and it (looked pink inside) like the whole tablet is just one colour.... ## Hi Destiny, Based on my research, there are different varieties of the pill you have. I came across a round yellow pill with pms on one side with a score on the other- in addition to the number 4 (which most likely stands for the milligram). I don't know what the strength of your pill is, however I do believe it is Morphine Sulfate SR, which is Morphine Sulfate sustained release. Sustained release is a mechanism used in pill tablets or capsules to dissolve a drug over time in order to be released into the bloodstream at a slower rate while having the advantage of being taken at less f...

Can this pill be broken in half and taken? 200 mg is very strong. Half of that dose would be more agreeable. Will it still work as it should? Just not as strong? ## Generally, if the medication is not in an extended release form, I don't see why it wouldn't be safe to divide the tablet in half for a smaller dosage. However, this particular tablet does appear to be extended release and therefore I would NOT encourage anyone to tamper with it in any way, even for legitimate reasons. Just to be sure we are on the same page, this is an oblong green pill with [M] on one side and "200" on the other. And it reportedly contains 200mgs of Morphine sulfate SR (slow release). For verification, the manufacturer is listed as Mallinckrodt. It may be best to ask your doctor for a lower...

Does it come with a warning? ## Yes, if someone isn't opiate tolerant and they crush or chew it, this dosage could cause an overdose, as it is a pretty high one. And yes, the prescription bottle will normally have a warning label instructing you not to crush, chew or cut the tablets. Learn more Morphine details here. has this been prescribed for you?
