Good luck! ## 30mgs of Morphine is equivalent to the 20mgs of Oxycodone that you were taking. However, it doesn't work as well for everyone, similar to Full of Heart, when I was on pain management and had to switch, due to my insurance no longer covering Oxycontin, it helped, but never worked quite as well as the Oxycontin did. Pain medications can affect everyone differently, whereas some people get great results from taking it, but there are others that it just doesn't work for. Unfortunately, the only way to find out is to actually try it. To answer your other question, Morphine is a narcotic pain reliever used to treat moderate to severe pain. I wouldn't suggest trying to use it for any other purpose outside of that. I'm ceasing my use of 30 mg Morphine Sulfate ER twice daily due to concerns that it's increasing my disorganization and not helping my pain as much as Celebrex and maybe Cymbalta. My pain provider suggested what seemed to be a rapid decrease of plateaus of only a few days before each decrease. Instead I filled with 15 mg tablets and decreased more slowly, always decreasing the evening dose first. I'm now at one 15 mg in the morning only- this is the third day. The soles of my feet hurt (fibromyalgia pain), my calves, front of legs. I'm faintly nauseated, was unable to nap today because of restless legs when I had an impending migraine. For over 10 years, I took 820 mg. morphine sulfate ER daily to manage chronic pain, trigeminal neuralgy and osteomyelitis in my jaw...(yes, I know that is spelled wrong, but don't want to take the time to look it up right now) Anyhow, about 1 1/2 years ago I started tapering myself off of it, one, because of the costs...astronomical, ridiculous, really..and for the last 6 months or so have been taking either 15/30 mg. regular release morphine every 4 hours. I just went to a new pain dr. For 8 years I was on OxyContin 30mg. My insurance wouldn't pay so I was switched to 30 mg ms continue er. This worked fine. All with 5/325 Hydrocodone up to 4 daily for breakthrough. Within the last four months the old Doctor switched to 30mg IRR without telling me why the change. I think just mixed up. Actually it worked basically the same with the breakthrough meds. Now new doc changed to MS Contin er generic with same amount of breakthrough melds. My insurance change thus my pm doc changed. He switched me from 100mg er morphine 3xday with 4 10/325 percocet daily and 2 350mg soma to up to 3 30mg ir morphine 4x daily only for pain. No breakthrough med and no muscle relaxer. Am I going to stiffer major wd?or is this captains with what I was taking? Doctor told me to half my 30 mg. MS-CONTIN but the package said this pill should not be split. It is a small mauve pill. I believe it is time-relased. ## Time released (also known as controlled release [CR], or extended release [ER]) generally should not be split because of how they are designed. Do the pills in question have any score marks on them? If they are scored then you should be able to split them. If not, then I would triple check with the pharmacy to get their opinion. When in doubt I'd stick with the instructions on the label. You might even want to get in touch with your doctor (if possible) and tell them that the package specifically states not to split the pill and ask them what they think. It only seems to last 4 hours and the morphine 30 mg er seems to last no more than 7 hours. I can only stand and bend for 10 minutes or less until I'm in excruciating pain. On my formulary list, it shows Morphine Sulfate bead, as a category of morphine available. I am currently taking morphine sulfate ER 30 mg., but the cost is $90 for a quantity of 90 pills (1 month supply). The Morphine Sulfate bead is shown with a cost of only $15 per month. I am currently taking 60mg of morphine sulfate ER twice a day and 30 mg of oxycodone HCL four times a day. For some reason I came up short one morphine on the last day of my prescription, so I only have one I can take instead of two until I get my new script tomorrow morning. Instead of taking the last morphine this morning, I waited and took it around 4pm tonight. Will I have withdrawl symptoms from missing a dose of Morphine, but continuing to take the oxycodone 30mg? ## If you didn't have any during the interim, where you didn't take it until much later, then no, you should be fine.
