Morphine La 15mg

Recently the doctor prescribed morphine 15mg ER which was too strong and made me so incredibly sick. I've tried everything else on the marked, but those made me "deathly ill" as well. He then changed me to 15mg Morphine IR 4 times a day, and it usually always lasts about 4 hours until the burning pain in my back returns. Yesterday I only took one tab, and was fine all day, but this morning the burning pain is back with a vengence! Will I get better constant pain relief taking 4 a day whether I feel I need them or not? I simply just need a new spine, but that isn't possible of course and trying to figure out if morphine IR is cumulative in the body, and therefore I should take the 4 a day whether I feel I need it or not. We were told my husband would be on extended release morphine. The morphine ER is that type, but he was given morphine LA! What is the difference? ## Hello, Sharon! How are you and your husband? After two years on oxycodone 10mg 4x daily withdrawal between doses was getting unbearable so doc switched me to morphine ER 15mg 2x daily with oxycodone 5 mg for breakthrough pain. I just started today. I took the pill at about noon and now it is 7pm and I feel withdrawal symptoms. I am currently taking 15 mg of morphine er twice daily and have been for 4 months now for chronic severe back pain. I have been noticing the last 2 weeks that it's not working as well. Can I take two (2) of the Morphine Sulf 15mg ER, at the same time to equal 30mg? Will it release double since it is two pills? Will it equal to just one (1) pill 30mg ER? After a brain & spine surgery a 1.5yr. ago (forever living w/ Chiari Malformation & related conditions, permanent damage, more surgery) I've been on 30mg. I have been taking 4 or 5 of the 15mg ir morphine pills per day for several months. I was having a lot of pain today, so I took another dose of 15mg ir pills about an hour ago. How long before I will have some relief and how long will it last? ## I just read your post...did not see any replies, so here goes. First of all, you need to stay on top of your pain. Do NOT try to wait until it gets really severe for if you do, you will 'never' get it under control. I have been taking morphine ER 15mg for 3 years and hydrocodone/acetaminophen 10-325. I've also suffered from migraines for about 20 years. I get about 12 migraines a month. In the last couple of months I have noticed an increase to 20 a month, so I stopped taking my meds for 5 days and they seem to be better. I've been on Morphine 15mg. Succ IR for close to 2 months. I'm switching to Norco 10/325 in the morning. I'm wondering how many hours should be in between taking the morphine,and the Norco? I took my last morphine at 7pm tonight. Start Norco 10/325 around 7am. ## Unless your doctor or pharmacist has instructed otherwise, you should be able to make a clean switch from one to the other. I've been prescribed an extended-release version of morphine sulfate and I've released I'm not sure how the extended release works. I take one 15 mg pill per day. I guess I thought the extended release meant that I would be getting the benefit of 15 mg of pain relief all day long, at an given moment. But does the ER version simply take that 15 mg and divide it up over the space of 24 hours? 15 divided by 24...that would mean at any given hour, I'd only have 0.62 (less than a milligram) in my system, which is substantially less than 15 mg of relief in any given hour. I just learned that a friends, yes seriously a friend, has for the last nine days taken a half of a 15mg extended relief morphine every day and was planning to intermittently take a whole one to hopefully avoid withdrawal. My friend is doing this because my friend is going on vacation and his prescription becomes due during the time he is away. Our state has instituted "drug contracts" with the prescribing doctor and pharmacy for people using these types of drugs. This means he can not have it filled early to take with him, and his doctors office has rules about calling for the script 48 hours maximum before it is due. I have a spinal stimulate with two leads in my back for damaged nerves, mostly on the left side. During back surgery the left side lead was cut, which not only cause more pain for the recovery but was not discovered for 2 weeks. Because of Christmas nothing can be done until Jan.19,2017. Tylenol 4 does ok but it does not last very long, certainly not one every 8 hours. The doctor wants to switch me to morphine 15mg every 8 hours. My doctor put me on the morphine to try to wean me down from taking 4 percocets to 3. I took my first morphine at midnight - and I still feel pretty good 10 hours later. My question is, how is the morphine released into my blood stream? i.e. do I feel relief immediately - or 45 mins later and then every 1/2 hour or so more is released? Maybe this benefit of 10 to 12 hours relief will dissipate over the next few days to lasting only 5-6 hours? I will try to make this as short as possible. I have been suffering with Chronic Pain to my right shoulder since 2005. I fell on black ice, dislocated the shoulder, broke the humerus head and cracked the bone in the socket. 3 surgeries later I'm still suffering with the pain.
